TIGERS

McInnes’ decision to join the Sharks is the latest blow to the Tigers’ often criticised recruitment and retention program.

The Tigers were desperate to fill the void left by the departure of Harry Grant at hooker when the right player became available and McInnes certainly fit the bill.

The club has missed out on signing stars like Latrell Mitchell and Josh Addo-Carr in recent years and let stars James Tedesco, Aaron Woods, Mitchell Moses and Ryan Papenhuyzen join other clubs.

The Tigers have been accused of being doormats for the rest of the competition with players both unwilling to join the club and unwilling to stay there.

The club currently has Jacob Liddle, who has had a history of long-term injuries and Billy Walters, who is returning form a knee injury as their hooker options.

Tigers and New Zealand coach Michael Maguire is keen to lure Brandon Smith from the Storm, but he is one of the most sought after signatures in the game, so it will be difficult for the club to land him.

With Moses Mbye stepping down from the captaincy McInnes would have solved the No.9 and leadership holes at the club, but now it is back to the drawing board.

The Tigers have now missed out on three hooker targets in Harry Grant, Blayke Brailey and McInnes, but they may have another crack at Brailey now that his future at Cronulla is uncertain.

Do they realise we signed the captain of the minor premiers? Maybe he's the one replacing Mbye as captain. In addition to that we re-signed Nofa, Musgrove and Blore who all had plenty of offers.

Of course not, that doesn't fit the narrative of "leadership void, and no one wants to join or stay". It's all just clickbait, don't take the bait.

Yeah i reckon Tanah Boyd lacks that yard of pace to make it as an NRL player ...Fogarty and Fotuaki ...hell yeah

Fogarty is good too would take him

Fogarty came from nowhere and had one solid season. Let's see if he can back that up for a year or two before we call him an NRL player

When V'landys was appointed as chair of the commission, he was asked about the prospect of allowing Folau back into the sport.

"The game is inclusive. Israel's comments are not inclusive," V'landys said at the time. "When I was a kid and kids used to get bashed up because they were different, I used to go and defend them. And a lot of them, it's because their role models or their peers made them that way.

Going to be very interesting to see what PVL does here. Personally, I don't think the money stacks up for Folau anymore, which basically makes him a snowballs chance. I can't see it happening.

Not offical in any way and would like to hear from @THE_POM or someone else with inside info, but I am hearing (from the old friend of a friend of McInnes) that we didn't even formally make an offer to McInnes - Maguire/Hartigan met and chatted but no official interest from us. Not that that matters for certain journo's etc......

How can PVL go back on his word like that? He's not one to retreat.

There would be far too much uproar and it would de-stabilise the league and it's image. Dragons are a joke. Their fans are pissed off about this too.

That's what I mean, the only reason he would allow it if it was fiscally beneficial for the NRL, which it almost certainly isn't, hence why it seems highly unlikely he's going to be allowed back.
Yeah my best mate is Dragons fan living in the UK, he's going to be pissed when he wakes up.

Not offical in anyway and would like to hear from @THE_POM or someone else with inside info but I am hearing (the old friend of a friend of McInnes) we didn't even formally make an offer to McInnes - Maguire/Hartigan met and chatted but no official interest from us. Not that that matters for certain journo's etc......

Not sure Tigers would have been too keen to offer a 4yr deal worth 600k/season starting in 2022 anyway.

I haven't seen it reported anywhere that we made him an offer so we didn't really miss out on him, the comparisons to LM and JAC by some journalists is dumb. Makes you wonder who we are targeting for 2022 though

Still a good player. Just an idiot

Is he still a good player though? Hasn't played NRL since 2010 and is almost 32.

Link?

St George Illawarra have submitted a formal application to the NRL in the hope of signing Israel Folau on a two-year deal.

The Herald can reveal the Dragons have formally approached the NRL about acquiring Folau's services from this season to play in the centres, with the governing body set to consider allowing the dual international to return to the sport.

ARLC chairman Peter V'landys previously indicated the door was all but shut on Folau to return to the sport after the controversy surrounding his religious beliefs during his time in rugby union.

However the NRL has recently indicated to the Dragons that it will consider the application and will not make a decision until they have reviewed the proposal and spoken to the relevant parties.

The Dragons board has approved the approach, while the club has also informed its major sponsors of its intention to sign Folau. St George Illawarra chief executive Ryan Webb confirmed the club was in the process of luring the former Queensland and Australian representative to the Dragons.

“We are always on the lookout for great players,” Webb told the Herald. “We have enquired with the NRL about Israel and we will work with them to hopefully see him join us in 2021.

"We understand there will be a range of opinions in regards to this decision, but we believe he would be a good addition to our club."

Folau was meant to play for Catalans in the Super League this year, but returned home over the summer after the birth of his first child. The news of the Dragons' potential signing of Folau comes on the day they lost skipper Cameron McInnes to the Sharks from next season on a four year deal worth around $2.2 million.

"I have no tolerance for people that put other people's lives [at risk] or [commit] violence. It's a big statement to make. With due respect to Israel, what he says, young kids listen to. He is a role model. They act on it. And when you're a kid at school and you get bashed up because you're different, I don't think that's a good thing."

Every club should wear rainbow socks v Stains as a form of protest .......

That's 100% correct no formal offer was put forward to McInnes or his management, catch up was to gage exactly where he was at & his thoughts on playing position which at the time was Hooker or nothing else hence discussions didn't really eventuate further.
Seems McInnes has had a re-think on his Hooker stance.

No Thanks. NMN

A 20 year old junior rep star is a nuffie? Sure. As long as brooks doesn't repeat 2020 we will be fine anyway

I've seen him play a lot of games for the GC - I reinforce my opinion ....he is a nuffie.

A nuffie that we don't need. I think we have just got out of the habit of collecting.

Laurie situation is at a stalemate unless Panthers come to the party I don't see anything changing at the moment.
All quiet on most things elsewhere, plenty to happen in the market prior to round 1. McInnes situation will now make the Sharks look at moving someone on in an attempt to bring him early which will create a ripple in the market.
I know Hartigan/Madge want 29 players signed up prior to the end of the month with the train & trial players more likely to fill those spots.
In relation to Hastings, I know Hartigan has had a conversation with Jackson directly but nothing else, it was started by his management looking for interested parties for 2022.

Honestly seems like the best situation to be in, hopefully it keeps the playing group internally motivated and that translates onto the field.

Quick question

Is there any combos that madge will be trialling in the upcoming trial game? E.g. liddle and Simpkin hooler combo
