I know that a lot of us are curious about who will play 13,but,I reckon Madge is no fool and the 13 is an important position to fill...Even though we havent recruited a known 13,Madge may have been working with one of our squad members to fill the void in 2021..
He is there everyday working with this squad and surely has had someone within that position readying for the trials or rnd1...
Who that player is,only Madge knows at this point in time...
I have faith in Madge to fill that void with an astute player...Who knows what may eventuate from the trial game(s).....

Agree, and i hope he has someone groomed for the fullback position as well.

Mbye will be fullback

To paraphrase your comment from a few days ago concerning Momo, if Mbye is fullback for most of the year we're not in the 8.

Well if that is your opinion don't expect to be in the 8.

Right now, I don't. We don't have the backs to do the job.

And you want to replace the only one capable of playing the position with one of the other backs. Mbye is a good fullback if he has worked out his issues under the high ball.

Can't recall saying that. I said (basically) that if Mbye is FB we won't make the 8. Like many on this site I was hoping we could get Laurie across. If he was here I think he'd be first choice FB. But he's not so we're probably stuck with Mbye at FB and I can't see us making the 8 with him there.

If he has rectified his defusal of the highball then there is no reason he can't be fullback in a top 8 team. I was hoping we would get Laurie as well, even if we got him I doubt we would have started him at fullback to start the year.

You raised my comment about Momo, the difference is Mbye is our best fullback, Momo has at least 4 players who are currently better centres than him and probably another 4 who are potentially better centres.

Think we'll have to agree to disagree. I'd love Mbye to be a raging success at FB, I just don't see it. Mbye is probably our best FB but we haven't recruited a FB for 2021 so it's a bit like being damned by faint praise.

I would have traded Momo is a second to get Laurie for 2021, it didn't happen though and acknowledge we are incredibly short at fullback and 5/8th. Mbye can do a job at fullback though and him playing the majority of games won't be the reason we miss the 8, if we do miss the 8.

I really think that some people on here keep the dislike for Moses because of his pay packet,we should all be clear,Moses did very well for us in 2018 when he came over,Ivan left us ALL including some players out to dry including a terrible cap...
Mbye can and will do a good job for us if he is left at FB and not chopped and changed as was last couple of years, the weight of captaincy is off his shoulders and people also forget he had a groin injury I was told that he carried most of last year..
I hope he kills it for us at FB especially now JTJ adds experience and much needed speed to the side..I think things will be ok for us...we will make the 8 if the team all stay fit and keep their heads together...just my opinion though....

Not just you opinion, I think that sums it up well. At this point in the season there is very little point in worrying about who is getting paid what, right now is the time to determine the best 17 we can field irrespective of what they are paid. At this point in time Mbye is far and away the best fullback in the club.

That’s 100% correct no formal offer was put forward to McInnes or his management, catch up was to gage exactly where he was at & his thoughts on playing position which at the time was Hooker or nothing else hence discussions didn’t really eventuate further.
Seems McInnes has had a re-think on his Hooker stance.

**The Tigers should have been smarter.**

**The Club Should rethink the publicity associated with public meetings.**

This would avoid sensationalist stories being published and leaving the our club again looking like it took a yet another blow in the recruitment market.

Been thinking that as well. Madge is very hands on but might make sense to let Hartigan do the public meetings, he’s a lot less recognisable.

In response to a couple of the above quotes.
The club being smarter about it.

Agree. We probably need to be less and more transparent. In the case of meetings. I feel it’s fine to have meetings between players and the coach. What I would like to hear is Madge openly refruting media reports.
In the case of meeting with Cam.
Quote something like. “Cam is a solid player and would be a welcome addition to any team as the opening statement.
If pressed further, state, “cam and I have a previous history from another club and he was just after some career advise. Pressed if the tigers would sign him to play hooker or any other position.
“No, we are very satisfied with our current roster”
Not one of our front facing people. Coach, recruitment manager, CEO or Chairman should make a statement saying they are looking at signing this player.

Furthermore to that. It’s time the tigers get on the front foot with the media.
Threaten them with removing any chance of exposure.

This whole we have a preferred reporter and leaking little droplets out to those sources is crueling us.
Treat the media. All sources as an equal entity and deny them access. Only provide them information through offical club statements.
If they don’t agree. Tell them we just going to give up red herrings at every opportunity and we will not allow you access to our players.
Make a stand!

It doesn't work like that.

Tell me if you can, how it does work.
Why does the media have so much leverage over only a select few clubs?
Why do other clubs get away with silence until an official announcement is made.

If your going to tell me well because we aren’t one of the strong clubs and don’t have the relations to ensure favourable press.

We’ll explain to me how a basket case club like the bulldogs can get away with no misreporting until an offical announcement was made. Tigers have been linked to JAC the whole time then as soon as JAC said it’s not happening it was silence everywhere until an offical announcement.

The bulldogs used to have high influence with the likes of Ray Dib but he is no longer on their board.
In fact outside of the football team which is often gloated about the football club is reported as a shambles but yet media likes and players still flock to them.

We can’t get a favourable report from our very own James Hooper. Paid member and fan of the Tigers’s. Have the club shut him out so, now anything that doesn’t come his way he has a grind against?

For starters, you stated that the club should prevent access to media, that is not possible as there are rules around providing access to the media.

Other clubs signings are rumoured in the media as well it is not just us.

Also the less our coach is heard in the media the better, do you want him responding to every rumour of who we sign?

The best way to stop negative reporting is to win games.

But doesn’t the silence thus initiating the speculation then paint a less favourable light for the club?
They had no right to state not speculate but pretty much infer that our club missed out on signing him. We did not make an offer.
That statement could put off other potential signings.

yep the jury is definitely out, but if he can be solid without being spectacular i think we will be fine

We are way better in attack and defence with Mbye at the back than anyone else who has been on our roster the last 3 years . . As long as he works in his catch under pressure , that’s his only real down fall . He can make the first defender miss a lot, but if he is hitting a defensive wall he can lack penetration with his kick returns . This shouldn’t be as much of an issue now the other 4 backline players all have that penetration and can poke thier nose through .

I can see him being an unorthodox type of fullback, IE he probably won't run the ball back too much from kick returns like your tedescos, RTS's etc, iirc he never really did anyway. But his best asset was always that swooping extra man play he did and his support play.

Yeah his injection into the backline is really his strength, that play is a little less prevalent under the new rules so I would like to see him supporting through the middle a little bit more along with that play.

No I understand that. Absolutely. Your right about how results silences the critics.
Maybe what someone else said. Make meetings more private and not involve the coach and CEO until a follow up meeting? It’s not like there is much inventory to pick from at the moment with all teams having at least 27 players signed.
Makes you wonder who the roosters are going to entice to break their current contract and fill the Cordner void...

But Laurie hasn’t played many if any NRL games, so not sure where your confidence is coming from?

I'd rather an untested Laurie than and tried and unproven Mbye.

Wow, OK. We are trying to win the comp?

Coivnty, you could not have seen Mbye efforts in the last couple of years.Attack was uninspiring and defence lacked commitment, plus bad under a high ball.If he was decent we would not be shopping for a fullback.Laurie is a young guy with only a limited exposure to first grade. But do yourself a favour and surf the net on his form in the lower gde,it's off the charts. Not all kids make the transformation, but at even 30% of that form beats anything we have for FB.

At 20 he is definitley not at the top of his game,as few are at his age,and if he drops the odd ball that will be worked on,but he can attack and has brilliant speed which we need in this position.I expect Mbye to play much better this year purely owing to the fact he wii find it hard to get a contract after 2022.Lets be honest he's been coasting, and self preservation has been his main concern.

To paraphrase your comment from a few days ago concerning Momo, if Mbye is fullback for most of the year we're not in the 8.

yep the jury is definitely out, but if he can be solid without being spectacular i think we will be fine

It’s funny cause the year we got him from the dogs , he was constantly making line breaks from staggered defensive lines.
He’s good man , hopefully he’s over his injuries and we can see that player again.

I disagree completely . When he was at the back he added that extra dimension in attack , his dummy to the under runner , with the way he drags his hips to hide the ball whilst drifting into the space normally occupied by the centre, is really good .
I used to practice that , as well as the Scott prince hold the ball out to the under runner , look like your dropping it into his arm , then hook it too your other hand for a spiral to , hopefully , a now free running winger , as the centre hasn’t jammed ?, and when he does its already too late .
As I was a lock / back rower, I didn’t get to do it too often except in touch , and muck around games .
But it definitely worked . And he does it very well .

They'll print whatever sells.

I don't understand why anyone gets pent up about media reporting. Media are generally lazy and desperate for attention / clicks. They'll trot out the same old stories if it continues to get views for their newspaper.

Tigers are easy to flog as we haven't made the finals in 10 years. It's much harder to fling mud at clubs who have had some decent success. Tigers are easy targets and with a large and wider supporter base to appeal to.

Secondary to all of this, I bet my bottom dollar that many clubs have as much negative reporting as Tigers do, but fans have selection bias towards Tigers news.
