I’ve been informed that Jackson Hastings has signed with the club on a 2 year deal effective immediately


Woah!

Im not excited by this and Im not against it. What it will do is throw a massive cat amongst the pigeons. A very capable half (Man of Steel) supposedly to run around in reggies behind Brooks and AD? If nothing else it puts pressure on AD & Brooks I guess which cant be a bad thing.

Having said that I would hate to see Madge chop and change the halves during the season to prove a point.

One minute posters are whinging we can’t sign good players, then when/if we get one, some say no.

I said earlier, I don’t think he signed on to play reserve grade.


I didnt say no? My exact words were "Im not against it".

Did Luke Brooks or AD sign on to play reserve grade? Have Brooks and AD trained in the halves for the whole of pre-season to play in reggies?

And I didn’t say you, either.

And yet you quoted my post and not someone saying no? OK.

No one signs on to play reserve grade, but this bloke (by all accounts) ***had the English league at his feet***.

He won the ESL "Man of Steel" Award putting him in the same lofty eschelon as players such as Rangi Chase, Adrian Vowles and Dean Long.

But 4 players don’t go into 3 positions (a 6,7 & 9), someone will miss out.

It wont be the players who have had a full preseason training in that position with their team mates and learning the plays, it will be the one with zero preseason, who hasnt played in the NRL for over 3 years and has been playing in a substandard competition.

Brooks will really need to step up now, or perish imo.

you corrected me for saying no (when I didn't), you said he was good player and that he wasnt signed to play reserve grade (correcting my post).

In the next post you then go back and edit your post to say *"Besides, he wouldn’t likely start in FG straight away, anyway."*

So you challenged my post and then went back and ***edit your posts to agree with everything I said***.........and then tell me to get over myself.

Fullback yes, unaware of him ever playing lock.

I can now see the value in him as either lock, or a backup for Laurie in the event of suspension or injury.This may add to the rumour of Mbye moving.

Listening to the SEN1170 Podcast with Voss this morning, Matt Johns singled out Mbye as a standout at fullback during his visit to concord recently..

Mbye would add tremendous value to another club.

If you are thinking long term then you are way off leaving AJ and Talau as back ups.

Lock, hell no. We'd be more likely to play brooks there!!

He's basically just a half-5/8.

We'd have to pay them a transfer fee for starters. He'd be playing nsw cup for a few months (can't see him agreeing to do this) and want decent money (can't see us agreeing to this).

Signing for 2022 is a possibility but immediately is unlikely.

I am confident that Laurie will be a great fullback, but this is a crucial position in the side. I would like us to sign a dual purpose back that can cover FB in the case of suspension , or injury . We had little success with the players tried last year.

Mbye, is already here?

Unless someone come on the market, I think we would would bring a few of the train and trial blokes up, or development guys e.g. Fitzgibbon, ZDC etc

Yes a development player might do the job, but the names you mentioned don't appear as yet to capable in the role. Mbye did not work last year, and as seen with Teddy,Paps,LM,Edwards etc ,the way the FB combines with the 6,7, and 9 is a big part of the attack in all games. Lets hope for no injuries.

But you're basing "NOW" decisions on "last year", do you not think people can improve?

If a young inexperienced player YES. But seriously after all these years , many playing at 1, i doubt Mbye is comfortable at fullback. I also have the impression that he may be moving on.

Yep this is what I think. The south east Queensland stuff doesn’t go away , he’s not in the leadership group , which is strange , GC need a 9/6/7, because Fogarty I doubt is considered the answer , and the broncos are really weak in the spine. Plus the looming second Brisbane team . For me , he could be the bench utility , even if Mbye doesn’t go anywhere . It just means Laurie waits the year in reserves . Not that I think that’s a good idea either . We’ve gone from no options to way to many .

Whatever your thoughts on Hastings (I'm a fan) he is by any measure better than Walters.

I definitely think something is up with Mbye. Not making the leadership group with 2 years remaining on his contract says it all. Just doesn't really make sense to me.
