Can we now assume the rumour that Hastings has signed with us for 2021 is not true?

Why? It's been literally one day since the rumour came out. Things take time in rugby league - although I reckon it'll be for 2022 if we get him

It's been longer than that hasn't it? Maybe my memory is faulty. I haven't seen 2021 mentioned anywhere outside the forum, and surely Wigan wouldn't want to give up their star playmaker so close to the season kick off? For 2022 I think we're a strong chance though.

The rumour that we were interested has been around for a bit but someone saying we've actually signed him effective immediately only happened yesterday.

10:21am Monday the 15th Feb

Two days then. Certainly not enough for everyone to claim it's not happening and make fun of the person who provides the rumour. Keep doing that and we'll never get rumours on here ever..... even The Pom gets it wrong sometimes

If they say **immediately** then after 48hrs they are fair game.

I read effective immediately as meaning this year.... not literally on the same day. Not many rumours eventuate instantly lol

Not everything (almost anything) you read on social media is right.

You could go off the Wigan forum that said a week or so ago the club was concerned he wasn’t coming back this year or a couple of local socials saying he had signed immediately. Or some saying it was next year. Or a couple of journo’s saying it wasn’t happening. Pick your poison. They are all rumours. Some better than others, some possibly facts. Who knows.

That’s a definition of a rumour .... and fits well on this tread.
Unlike whole lot of jabber some of us post on here that you have to skim through each day before you get to few that really belong on here.

seems as if the Walters trade has gone cold. don't blame us for digging our heels in and wanting something in return, just hope that we can get it done for the sake of both parties.

I think what we'd be getting in return was getting him off our books. I would have been happy to just let him go.

I’m not the slightest bit interested in Jackson Hastings or the rumours surrounding him. Surely I’m not alone

Brooks and Adam D can make this rumor go away.

and some of us again will say "the club is weak for not getting something in return" damned if they do and damned if they don't... lol

the return that I am talking about is not just him off our books but a quality player from their playing group

if we end up signing Hastings for this year I'd be ok with it, but the depth in our halves this year isn't good enough just to let him go because we should.

He's out for half the season anyway and isn't much good when he's healthy. We really don't need him imo.

I think WT have recruited very well and found players that will fill the weaknesses such as pace, size in pack and a real leader in Tamou.

I did say before we would miss the top 8 but now changed my opinion. The recent additions plus players coming off of contract plus depth we should make top 8, injuries aside.

Whilst we won't win the Grand Final WT need to lay the foundations this season so we become a choice club for players.

We are one Superstar short and a good year and money in the bank should allow this signing for 2022 and then our premiership window opens.

Also love the Aboriginal connection and hope Allan Fitzgibbon becomes the next JAC and Forum favourite.

Our State Cup team will look very strong on paper as well pushing the NRL players to perform.

Bring on season 2021.

I've read many comments from people quick to veto the signings we've made or rumoured to make. However I feel some of you have unrealistic expectations of the recruitment process and expect the club to only sign marquee players (of which even then some people have been unhappy).

The club's renewed recruitment strategy seems simple (however in reality difficult to pull off) - bring in a player who is better than the one they are replacing and where possible at the same salary or lower. So far, they have done an outstanding job! Let's take a look:

Tamou - Huth
Joffa - Aloiai
JTJ - Jennings
Simpkins - Bradley
Laurie - Momo

If we look at Hastings singing on with us to replace Walters who we all know is not our long-term answer, well that's another successful trade-in from Hartigan and Madge.

If you're thinking we should be signing Munster instead of Hastings, you're looking at it wrong and will be disappointed.

Mate brilliant post that puts what the club is doing in perspective.

I'm indifferent to the Jackson Hastings signing, as I feel we don't need another half with LB, AD and JM coming along.

However, I thought his interview on bloke in a bar was one of the best yet. He spoke quite well, seems to have turned his life around (alebit I've heard reports its a front) but he does seem to be OK in this interview. Totally worth a listen!

He looks Irish. Wouldn’t look out of place at Tea Gardens at Bondi Junction.

I just got told from someone close to Jackson Hastings that he’s signed with the club. Wouldn’t go into full detail understandably, but I stick by the two-year deal from 2021 I was told the other day

2021 would be good, personally expecting it to be 2022 though. Either way good to hear

Read somewhere a while back that he had a get out clause in his contract if returning to NRL.

Wigan forum is expecting him there for training at some point next week so guess we will know then

I think Walters performed well with limited opportunity. He is a player that can cover 6,7 and 9 at low cost. He was thrown in to a side that was playing players in positions they were not suited for,and did a good job. For his sake it would be a good opportunity to further his career and go join his dad, but for the Tigers ,without a suitable replacement, it would be a bad move.

I just hope that Pascoe is not on holidays when his contract is due to be re-signed.

I think Walters is a bit of waste of a spot, however I suppose if we have a bunch of injuries he could be useful at some point

Here here!
Anyone's opinion on Hastings is not valid unless they have watched this

I like Brooks as a fella, and he was a young Tigers fan and what not, but I think at this stage Hastings offers more in the halves. I don't think he'd be playing hooker 😉

Serious question. Based on what?
