There’d be nothing left if you did that.

I just got told from someone close to Jackson Hastings that he’s signed with the club. Wouldn’t go into full detail understandably, but I stick by the two-year deal from 2021 I was told the other day

Yep totally agree

Read somewhere else that Rodwell guy on the train and trial contract has signed with Penrith

Rodwell is still with the club at this stage

Good, he'll be great for us. He isn't the same guy he was 3 years ago

I’m not the slightest bit interested in Jackson Hastings or the rumours surrounding him. Surely I’m not alone here?

Agreed. No better than what we already have

Ok Hap,lets talk about Hastings for a moment in regards to his signing...I do understand the guy has had his fors and against, mainly because of his attitude, but lets think for a moment why he is spoken about and why the club, especially with Hartigan being a hard taskmaster has offered him a contract.Im pretty sure Madge would have had a say in the signing ..
We have recruited Roberts who people didnt think he was a good signing, but yet he apparently has had a good preseason and is happier and healthier than ever and has a completely different attitude than the recent years at other clubs...
Laurie is a great signing apparently.yet hasnt strung enough NRL games together to know what he could be like...
Hastings has been man of steel in the ESL and seems to have had an attitude adjustment since leaving here,he does have ability and deserves the chance to prove himself once again in the NRL,Hartigan seems to think he does...
Hastings could be exactly what we need and maybe Madge,Hartigan and co think the same..
I dont know Hastings as a person, neither do I know Roberts, but I do reckon both need the opportunity to show that players can change, not just their attitudes but themselves as people...
And Im not having a go at you with this post,I just think we should have a better perspective on things if the people we are paying to recruit players are left to do their jobs for whatever reason and support whoever we sign while they are here...
To many times we have critisised and bagged out players that have fallen on bad times such as injuries or personal circumstances over the years and we should change our attitudes a bit as far as some of the players go that the professionals at this club recruit..

Can we now assume the rumour that Hastings has signed with us for 2021 is not true?

Why? It's been literally one day since the rumour came out. Things take time in rugby league - although I reckon it'll be for 2022 if we get him

It's been longer than that hasn't it? Maybe my memory is faulty. I haven't seen 2021 mentioned anywhere outside the forum, and surely Wigan wouldn't want to give up their star playmaker so close to the season kick off? For 2022 I think we're a strong chance though.

The rumour that we were interested has been around for a bit but someone saying we've actually signed him effective immediately only happened yesterday.

10:21am Monday the 15th Feb

Two days then. Certainly not enough for everyone to claim it's not happening and make fun of the person who provides the rumour. Keep doing that and we'll never get rumours on here ever..... even The Pom gets it wrong sometimes

If they say **immediately** then after 48hrs they are fair game.

I read effective immediately as meaning this year.... not literally on the same day. Not many rumours eventuate instantly lol

Not everything (almost anything) you read on social media is right.

You could go off the Wigan forum that said a week or so ago the club was concerned he wasn’t coming back this year or a couple of local socials saying he had signed immediately. Or some saying it was next year. Or a couple of journo’s saying it wasn’t happening. Pick your poison. They are all rumours. Some better than others, some possibly facts. Who knows.

I've read many comments from people quick to veto the signings we've made or rumoured to make. However I feel some of you have unrealistic expectations of the recruitment process and expect the club to only sign marquee players (of which even then some people have been unhappy).

The club's renewed recruitment strategy seems simple (however in reality difficult to pull off) - bring in a player who is better than the one they are replacing and where possible at the same salary or lower. So far, they have done an outstanding job! Let's take a look:

Tamou - Huth
Joffa - Aloiai
JTJ - Jennings
Simpkins - Bradley
Laurie - Momo

If we look at Hastings singing on with us to replace Walters who we all know is not our long-term answer, well that's another successful trade-in from Hartigan and Madge.

If you're thinking we should be signing Munster instead of Hastings, you're looking at it wrong and will be disappointed.

I'm all on board with a potential Hastings signing. I see no downsides to it. Either Brooks and Douiehi kill it or one of them loses their place to Hastings, who could kill it under the right circumstances. And if he doesn't kill it but does well in NSW Cup, he will always be putting pressure on the other two.

Remember that halfback and five-eighth are not the same position. He can genuinely play both, so you get coverage in two positions. He can be both a dominant playmaker and a hands-off player who sets up backline moves and looks for opportunities. No good if Brooks went down and we only had a young Jock Madden to steer the side around.

By all accounts, the bad attitude thing years ago was overblown. He wasn't the best bloke but honestly a lot of the stuff said about him was Manly "leaking" stuff to distract from Daly Chery-Evans' average character. Of course none of this is proven, but based on information and media of him that I have seen since then, he seems like a well-rounded and thoughtful person. He is nothing like his reputation.

Yeah DCE is a protected species.
The guy has had plenty of run ins with his own teams mates. The Stewart brothers loathe him.
A huge ego on huge money,

A huge ego on huge money,

The reason they clashed was because it was the pot meeting the kettle . He was quietly let go from the roosters for the same thing . In saying all this , I’m happy to swap Walters for him .especially if the Mbye to qld stuff is true. I think AD and brooks / madden are way better than him.AD is at the exact same spot wighton was 2 years ago. Even down to the position swap from centre to fullback to 6. I could be wrong , but I’d rather put positive energy into the world .

The original rumor has been around for weeks if not a couple of months though the recent rebirth of it suggested it was for this season not next.

Read somewhere a while back that he had a get out clause in his contract if returning to NRL.

He had a 'get out' clause in his original contract but nothing ever got mentioned when he resigned back in November.

He's due back at Wigan on Monday, so that might be an indication of wether or not hes signing for 2021.

Great post - let the decision makers deem who is worthy of a 2nd chance, very happy the way recruiting has made decisions this off season and last year on whom not to retain, if they have signed him might mean genuine doubts on Brooks if can make it to the next level?

Happy have you run out of prescription drugs again
You have definitely changed in the last 6 months
Your not so happy anymore
What's up mate

This is a new year with lots of changes to the club and its players
Still a few spots left
So don't get your knickers in a knot
?
We should be getting excited now
Just think next year we will have another batch of new players come aboard
Out with all the old dead wood
More depth to our roster
And Hopefully unearth a Gem or two this year
That would put us in a very healthy position
One marquee player is not going to be the messiah
Let's build the whole squad 1st then look for that key player
Who knows, we might already have that player in our squad
