When you run through the list of players let go and recruited in the Madge era you must come to a single conclusion..the roster is improving. That in itself is a remarkable achievement, considering the obstacles he faces.

Yep. Not quite there yet and the start to the season has the naysayers and Doomsday Preppers howling (myself included game days).
We need to keep in mind it's the long game not band aid solutions that wil eventually get us there. I hate the idea of not making the 8 another season but if it means long-term success then so be it.

Absolutely, I think our recruitment has been very good and should be applauded. We’re not going to beat the top 4 teams but it’s a competitive roster and should be definitely competing for a top 8 spot (on paper).

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, Madge can’t get them competing. We haven’t put in a decent performance since the middle of last season and the effort against the Roosters was appalling. It may be the be players fault, it may be Madge’s fault, it might be a bit of both, but it can’t continue for too much longer. I think Madge is the sort of guy that will know when he’s done everything he can and will know it’s not working and will move on.

I think this team is good enough to make the 8. I would not have said that in 2019 or 2020.

This is a sick world, no wonder there's so much violence and sexual assault .

Is that THE Ryan O'Hara? Would have thought a former footy player would be the last to take a swipe at a current player.

Unless they are on the Fox payroll

I heard after the fact that Benji had a crack as well, saying that Brooks was a six and not a halfback.

He’s correct, Brooks is a 6 or a 9 at best, not a halfback’s bootlace. I honestly don’t know why we’ve persisted with him in that position for so long. Ash Taylor was the same, now he’s playing at 6 he’s so much better and he was playing better there towards the end of last year even before big boppers Fifita and Tino turned up.

Funny how he wasn't a six when Benji was there.

What’s the difference between a 6 and 7 these days. Showing your age if you still try and differentiate between them.

Yeah I’d rather go for Jackson Hastings tbh.

Why can't we have both.

I disagree Avo, I can’t see Madge giving up. I also think he knows what it takes to build a premiership winning team. The fact that he gave BJ a second chance, after his ordinary display round 1, shows understanding and concern for players. Eventually the players will respond. I hope? Lol

We will know Sunday . Is it a weak link in the chain caused the whole thing to fall apart (BJ ) , or is it we are over- valueing our own players ? I’m hopeful it’s the former . And I really want Brooks to quieten us all and put in an 80 min performance , not just once , but another 13 times so we can play in September . I have to admit , I’m usually pretty positive , but I’m concerned for this season . Not at all in the long run though . We have some guns coming through .

Perhaps? A chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link? As you say we’ll see what happens with the missing link?

Couldn't agree more, just need one of them to be an accomplished organizer and run the show.

I think thats the issue and why the gulf between the 4 best teams is so large.

Storm, Souths, Raiders, Panthers have conventional half & 5/8ths. Roosters did in Cronk, Keary & Teddy avoid the need for it but they struggled against the teams that did last year. Of the other teams Manly in DCE have one but don’t have a 5/8th. The other teams don’t.

The halfback is the one directing play 2-3 jumps ahead in attack and in defence holding his inside men accountable. 5/8ths in those top teams rove and run & play whats infront of them.

Halfback is the hardest position to fill with quality in the NRL if you want the role to be filled correctly.

Imo a 6 should have that attacking flare and be more creative in attack more inclined too chip chase for them self and come up with flashy plays,as too a 7 who should be very controlled and composed and look to set plays and more inclined too chip over the top for a fullback or winger. Just my opinion

While it’s changed over the years, they’re still different positions depending how teams play.

Benji has some experience in the modern game and seems to think they’re different. I’ll go with that.

100% agree.... We have a very young team now with a few key players been out injured / Suspended and lost to 2 of the top teams..

They need time to gel considering all the changes. Manly lost there 2 but media haven't hardly even mentioned that.
I also think if we would of won the 1st 2 games the media still would not be writing positive stuff about us regardless..

In our next 5 games I think we can win 3 of them and that puts us 4/3 record and most people would of accepted this at the start of the season considering the draw we have.

Anyway only way to shut media up is to Win so fingers crossed we win Sunday or next week will be hell again

I don’t really care what the media say about WT, as long as they keep talking about us. ?
I’m actually pumped about this position we’re in. We have a roster on the improve. We have state of the art facilities being built. We have a winning coach and football admin team. And we are on the bottom rung of the ladder with only one way to go. We all love the intrigue of a challenge.
I agree with your view jonesy, judge our performance after 8 rounds to get an idea of where we’re at.

Is there any chance that the Tigers could nab Jayame Isaako from the Broncos? He seems to be a pretty serviceable winger and can kick goals as well.

There was talk that he could be in the sights of the Tigers but that seems to have gone quiet?
