J Reynolds MOTM in his debut super league match...could be a handy pick up

This is the exact reason why a Hastings signing doesn’t excite me.

Well that's a weak reason to be frank, already discussed, for two points:

#1 Man Of Steel has often been a very capable footballer - Hodgson, Pat Richards, Ellery Hanley, Gary Schofield, Sculthorpe, Andy Farrell, James Graham, Jamie Peacock etc.

#2 J Rey was MOM 1 match. Not yet the same as being best player in the entire comp a whole year.

I hear you but I don't think its a weak reason at all and i didn't say he wont be successful here, it just doesn't excite me and i am not as confident that a key role like a 7 will translate and be as successful.

However, if it was discussed did we consider the following to your examples, both Hodgson and Richards had already won a premiership in the NRL before going over there so i am not surprised the won the award. Hanley won the award 3 times before coming to Australia to play on the wing.

Schofield, sculthorpe, farrell and peacock while winners of the award and good footballers never played in the NRL and while we can speculate that they may have worked out, there is no evidence to say the would definitely work.

Sam Tomkins also won the award and came to the NRL however, that didn't work out to well for the warriors.

So while there has been discussions i don't think its conclusive that just because you win the Man of Steel in the UK that your going to be a success in the NRL, hence the reason why i'm not sure Hastings will be a step up for us.

IMO you could argue that should Brooks go to the UK, he may very well win a Man of Steel.

Nobody said Hastings would be a success in NRL because of MoS. You made a comment that because J Rey could be MotM in his first game, that is "the exact reason" why a Hastings signing doesn't excite you.

I simply pointed out that many MoS winners are very successful footballers by any measure (so it's not an indictment against the player), and winning MoTM in one game isn't really comparable to being the season's best player.

Also
George Williams
Elliott Whitehead
Sam Burgess and the other Burgeii
Gareth Widdop
Gareth Ellis
John Bateman
Adrian Morley
Josh Hodgson

Not a single MoS winner amongst them.

Adrian Vowles, Rangi Chase

What of them?

Nuffies who won MoS

So what?

I think our current team would benefit greatly from a scheming, fleet footed lock that is also a strong defender. A guy who could share some of the playmaking role to add variety and deception to bolster our point of attack. I thought Watson did a great job for the knights, but a brandon Smith type would be perfect for us. I think Maguire is looking at hastings for this role - not to replace Brooks but to add to the team.

Hastings would be a bit small for a lock in the current Tigers team imo. Although admittedly, I haven't seen his defense in recent years.
I'd be looking at Laclan Lewis for that role. Hastings would still be a good get though for spine backup.

I actually think Lachlan Lewis would be very good as a lock. Good ball player, can tackle and can mix it up with his kicking. I know there is a fair bit of dislike for this kid on this forum, but to me, he could be an excellent pick up if available at the right price.

All opinions here respected however imo Lewis is rubbish full stop. He's barely able to make the Dogs 17.

That says more about the Dogs than Lewis - he is a great defender, has a reasonable kicking game and mostly a decent pass.

At 24 with some help and a decent mentor could be a good purchase, because he wouldn't be expensive.

I know most on here think he is rubbish (letting emotion getting the better of them) BUT in all probability these are the same people that want to sign Hastings who is not as good. Just my opinion.

I disagree. If he wasn't related to Wally Lewis he'd be playing park footy somewhere

People need to stop suggesting moving players around! This is one of the main reasons we struggle. The best teams have a spine that have played together for years! Our spine is 2 games strong! People are already suggesting to change it for next year? Then we start again! 1,6,7 sorted and 9 looks set for a while even tho Simpkin will definitely be an option for us in the near future. No to reynolds. There’s a reason Souths won’t offer him more than one year and he won’t make any difference if we play the way we did first 2 games. Lachlan Lewis weights about 40kg... idk how some people think he can play lock. Would much prefer hastings if that was the case.

2 players that would be great buys are Naden (center or wing) and Nicho Hynes (wing but quality fb and halves depth) hynes wants a full time gig somewhere next year, he most likely won’t get that at the storm. These 2 will give us strike and would be very affordable. We also need a meter eating big bopper for next year.

Nico Hynes is a great Idea . Is he a winger though ?

Nah. He's a utility, mostly plays in the halves, fullback or centre.... remind me of a bloke we've already got! He's a decent 14 but personally don't think he's good enough to be a starter at many clubs.

He's a real candidate to be overpaid by someone because Storm.

Hopefully we aren't silly enough to be that team.

If he’s off the bench at Melbourne, he’s good enough to start here

You and I both know I could find 20+ really ordinary footballers who have made the Storm bench over the years.

We seem to be fine in the forwards and still have Blore to come back and development of T Simpkins and J Simpkin. Also second rower on Dev contract is coming on well.

Really need a half back and winger then we are top 8 contenders.

Yeah exactly!!

If Blore's fitness is up to scratch and he can regularly play 60 odd mins, then he'll lock down one edge position. We know he's solid defensively but we've yet to see his attacking impact, which I think is going to surprise a fare few.

Tuki's a gem. Bit of a nutter who hits hard in every tackle(much like Blore) and he's got a massive motor. Perfect lock for us me thinks. Needs to fill out some more to prevent against injury and if not for this IMO he'd be in the 1st side already.

When fully fit it looks like we've got our pigs sorted out for many years. Just gotta be wary of the tops sides poaching these guys after we've put in the effort to develop them.

As you said we're still short on genuine pace which can be solved internally if Fitz or Gebbie come good. Otherwise we'll have the cash to spend on free agents this coming off season...

Yeah its a bit crazy when you think of who we have coming through - there is a lot of promise in Simpkin, Simpkins, Tuilagi, Blore and Gebbie.

On top of that - should BJ not be renewed, Packer moving on and Mbye hopefully finding a new home - there is another $2m to throw at further talent! Can be used for a marquee and more decent depth.

Yes he's just okay and that is okay when you have Munster, Papenhuyzen and Smith in your team, He would just be another average type in our team. We have to recruit better.

Agreed, Nico hynes doesnt do anything for were the club is aiming for at the moment, if we didn't have laurie maybe.

I don't doubt Naden has talent, however not sure if he can be a consistent quality NRL player for years to come. I must say I haven't had much time for him as a person - he is a lippy tool and a hot-head on the field and off the field has proven to be a jackass.
On the other hand, he is young and maybe he can settle down with the right guidance - the WT's current program may well be a good fit for him. Having him at his best would certainly provide some depth and strike in the centres and potentially on the wing where his big frame could be handy. Perhaps a 2 year deal with a further option in the club's favour.

Are we actually entertaining this thought of getting Naden or is it just rumour?

Geez I dunno he looks pretty bloody good if you ask me and will only get better. He’d easily start here at either centre or wing I reckon.

Can I ask this of everyone who is talking of Blore's attacking ability

Can someone give me 3 memorable Blore attacking moments from 2020 ??

Doesn't change anything ....you'd still have moments where you have dragged a few defenders 10-15 metres if you had an attacking presence
