I think our current team would benefit greatly from a scheming, fleet footed lock that is also a strong defender. A guy who could share some of the playmaking role to add variety and deception to bolster our point of attack. I thought Watson did a great job for the knights, but a brandon Smith type would be perfect for us. I think Maguire is looking at hastings for this role - not to replace Brooks but to add to the team.

Hastings would be a bit small for a lock in the current Tigers team imo. Although admittedly, I haven't seen his defense in recent years.
I'd be looking at Laclan Lewis for that role. Hastings would still be a good get though for spine backup.

I actually think Lachlan Lewis would be very good as a lock. Good ball player, can tackle and can mix it up with his kicking. I know there is a fair bit of dislike for this kid on this forum, but to me, he could be an excellent pick up if available at the right price.

All opinions here respected however imo Lewis is rubbish full stop. He's barely able to make the Dogs 17.

That says more about the Dogs than Lewis - he is a great defender, has a reasonable kicking game and mostly a decent pass.

At 24 with some help and a decent mentor could be a good purchase, because he wouldn't be expensive.

I know most on here think he is rubbish (letting emotion getting the better of them) BUT in all probability these are the same people that want to sign Hastings who is not as good. Just my opinion.

Lewis is a plodder.

No doubt a future Wests Tigers immortal.

Lets be fair to the current recruitment team as they have done a excellent job with all the overpaid players and cap penalty from Farah situation.
They really seem to be targeting the right players even if they are not the big named players a lot of fans/ media expect. We will lose Packer, Mbye, BJ, Walters and MCK and will have a decent amount of money left to target the right players.
For me I have a feeling we will let Brooks go to Cows and pickup up Reynolds from Souths and it will do wonders to our squad and attraction of the club to other players.
Don't see us getting Angus Crichton at all as he will stay at Roosters but happy to trust the power at be..

I agree with your recruitment comment. We are after the right players and at the right price.

Brooks should and will stay. He is a loyal player and a very good half. Any rebirth will occur around him, Laurie and AD. Other than that, the talent in the joint is great.

Make the 8 and our value proposition changes from "help us transform" to "in the next 4 years we are winning the whole thing".

I don't see any more high $$$ signings who are actually worth it (current origin) until we do this.

If we are looking for a mobile lock, Lewis at the right price would be a great buy. His uncle could play lock well I'm told.

I think we have the solution for lock at the club already.... Stefano. He's shown he can hit a hole, he's shown he's got a big motor and he's shown he's got good passing.... he could end up at 13 eventually once he's got more games under his belt I reckon.

I'd be inclined to run Simpkins at 13 over Stefano. He's a good middle defender and at 19 already has the best offload in the club.

That’s an excellent shout albeit from the little I’ve seen of him he seems to be the best prospect we have on the books moving forward. From what I’ve heard and bits and pieces I’ve read is he’s been pretty good in reggies, must only be a matter of time before he jags a bench spot at least.

Soo seems once again WTs will have a fair war chest to play with next year, Twitter estimates going as high as $2mil.
Obviously some this will be put towards retention of existing talent but with the likelihood that the following are moved on or downgraded;
- Packer
- Mbye
- BJ
- CheeKam
- Walters
Who will we be targeting? Or do we think youth and promotion from within will continue to prevail?

If we are replacing like for like, I'd go:

Packer Josh McGuire
Mbye Jackson Hastings
BJ Tommy Talau to slot in (Tesi Niu, Sebastian Kris or Brent Naden)
CheeKam Dale Finucane or Angus Crichton
Walters Upgrade a junior

From there, we need to continue our raids on the best junior talent as we have done this year.

Agree with a fair bit here, never been a fan a McGuire, brings a bit to the field but appears to be a bit of a locker room cancer.
Aside from that upgrading Chee Kam to Crichton would be pretty special.

wassn't McGuire the mole from the broncos locker roo m when things started kicking off there?
I like his tough play on the field, and he has been a winner in his past but is it too far behind him?

We need strike. Paps, Gagai, Staggs or others with speed and ability. Just 2 out the back would transform this side. Our forwards are ok, and then with any spare cash buy the best young guys in CC.

Who would you demote to accommodate L-Lewis???

He doesn't go anywhere near our starting side IMO.

We have blore, tuki and a few development players already ahead of him that are a ton better.

No one . There’s 30 blokes in a top 30 . And I think he could do a job. And I think he would be handy and the kind of player you need in your top 30 . Like a new school Nigel plum . If he’s starting for you there’s issues , but if he’s playing the odd game off the bench then that’s exactly where you need to be at .

hmmm don't know about that comparison, Lewis is good defender, Nigel Plum used to cut people in half. I think we've already got our modern day Plum, he just won't be available until round 6.

I wouldn’t mind:

Move Douhie to centre, get rid of BJ.

Bring Laurie into 6

Go all out and buy Paps from storm to play 1

Buy a huge forward.

AD needs to be our 6. He looks our best player atm. Why would you move him. He could do the job at centre though but let's leave him at 6.
