if the naysayers are watching this WE NEED REYNOLDS

Naysayers ? That’s an interesting way to look at it . I saw a guy get to his kicks , and shift early to benji and Lattrell .
I didn’t see anything worth 1 mil a year . Which is what it would cost .

Would it? $1.4 mill over 2 years is the current offer.

He'd be worth that.

What do we do with brooks ? Offload to the boys ? Also what do we do in 2024 ? Is madden gonna wait ? Is there a junior coming through ? Not saying I hate it . Just there’s a lot to sort out , the future 3 years from now the most important . Plus you all know I’m pro brooks .

The question is not what do we do with Brooks but what does Brooks do for us
Likely answer : More of the same
We need to be looking for better
Wether that's 2,3 years or 4 years it doesn't matter
I like Brooks loyalty but it has not helped us
2 years from a quality player like Reynolds is better than 4 more years of Brooks
Aren't we all sick of waiting
I'll be in a retirement home soon
Brooks really needs to show more over the next 6 weeks
If he can't then we must go hard for Reynolds

Unfortunately after last night's performance I think souths will have to re sign Reynolds or the supporters will march just like they did to get back in to the league

Did I just see Reynolds going down to Rusty's farm

Look at the players we have lost and their calibre to understand the issue. But it is easier to blame Brooks.

It's hard to blame anyone else for Brooks performances except himself?

A performance that included Dally M half and I believe a few club awards.

I admire your support for the bloke, but we haven't been in the top 8 for 10 years, we have changed many things and it is still not happening, so they need to look at him, he just doesn't seem to have the game we need to take us to the next level.

We have not replaced the quality we have lost. It is very simple really.

Please name the like for like replacements.

IMO, it is not about who was playing, it is about what he is doing as an individual, as our main playmaker for the team.

E.g. his kicking game has nothing to do with anyone but himself.

I like the guy, just not in the halves.

If Brooks calls the play and kicks the ball to the spot where he has in training, that is all he can do. If the chasers are lazy or drop the ball drop it does not make the kick any worse. Adam Reynolds kicking game was all over the place on Thursday but some extreme effort and brilliance from others in his team made some look quite good.

The dud kick of the day was M'Bye at the end of the game,it was absolutely braindead. The only possible excuse i could give him is if he had an Inglis moment and thought 6 points was enough for a win or extra time

That was pretty bad but the game was over. Watch AD's attacking kick when we were close. Brooks gets these pretty good. AD stuffed it.

True the game was over so why on earth would you take a risk like that when you are so close to your own goal line, the most likely result would always be a try against you.

We defend our line better and we beat Parramatta, then the narrative is totally different.

It seems to me when folks run out of complaints, during a bad run of form, they default to criticising the half, in the same vein as people criticise the CEO or bossman when a company does something.

If in doubt it's the half's faults.

I'm not in any way suggesting Brooks is without fault, but I don't honestly believe Tigers haven't played finals footy in a decade because LUKE BROOKS. We were failing as a club long before the kid debuted.

The halves can only play as well as the the platform built by the forwards. Stronger teams with better players usually win. If you're a half kicking from better field position because your forwards are dominating, a halfback will have a much easier task and obtain better outcomes. Brooks has not enjoyed playing behind a dominating pack as many of the more fancied halves have/do.

If Benji can hold his own in a quality side so could Brooks. The magic answer is not in recruiting or sacking one player. If the top 6 sides don't prove that you just don't want to see it.

Oh wow. It is *never* Brooks' fault. I feel so sorry for him! Such an amazing player surrounded by losers. We should pay him more to thank him for sticking with us. He's a fine player but he's not winning anyone a competition.

I'm not suggesting for a minute that Brooks shouldn't own his faults - I've been just as frustrated by him. But also don't believe for a minute that his faults are the reason for our lack of success or that removing him and replacing him alone will bring success. It's a bandaid solution. The quality/talent in the competition is mostly concentrated in five/ six sides and we are not one of them that is currently our biggest problem.

Fair enough, I see your point. Thanks.

But why does replacing Brooks = bandaid solution? If we get a better player in his position and address other areas of need over the next two years (realistically what it will take) then wouldn't we still be a better team in the long run?

For me it’s a bandaid solution because of the fact it’s 2 years . If we don’t have a plan to succeed him , which could be madden FYI, then we are in a way worse situation , akin to the one we were in when Craig field fell out of form early 2000s . We then rolled out , BeN black , Ben Jeffries , Jolly , etc etc . We then took a huge risk on a busted Scott Prince . It worked out , but that was widely critiqued at the time . Plus it was 2-3 years as well , and we the. Went with Morris and Fitzhenry until Lui came along . We need to be methodical about it . And not so emotional.
I hope brooks proves everyone wrong , that’s my plan A , so plan B if it’s Reynolds , then that has to go hand in hand with either Madden , or whoever else has been identified as the future . Then a distant 3rd is the Hastings rubbish .

Yeah, it seems there's no really good other option long-term atm unless a Schuster came available.

Schuster is a 6 mate . And I’m not certain that’s where he will stay , I think he will end up on an edge wearing 11 .

You’re missing my point . Brooks is 26 , so would have been planned out to 2025 at the earliest as the half . So now , if we get Reynolds , that timeline moves forward , as I don’t think anyone seriously thinks he will last beyond a 2 yr contract .
So then getting/ developing the future half of our team , is really , really important .
Madden will be 24 around then , so maybe it’s him ? But you can’t be so short sighted . If we go for Reynolds , then that means we have to have our halfback of the future in the club at the same time .

Sorry, but I want to win now, not in the future.

We have been saying that for 10 years.

Let the future look after itself.

That's unfrotunately what has happened for some time - go for the sugar hit and instant gratification but in the long term you just rot away.
I want success just like you but we may have to be patient again this year as frustrating and demoralising as it is. We need to think long game.

Understand, but how long do you think we should wait now? It’s been a while.

From the mouth of a tigers board member. Madge asked the club about Folau over the off season and it was an unequivical NO. The chairman is a lawyer and a businessman and knows its anrgument he doesent want to be involved in given many players and supporters are religious but the club will not be signing Folau

There was an article saying there was drama with a board member leaving anyone know anything about that?

I’m no lawyer but if a nrl club gave him a contract think it would be hard for nrl to refuse. He’s no criminal. He’s a footballer who cares about all the other crap.

He’s done nothing wrong at the nrl as yet.

It was Mick Lubinskas - he didn't leave - he was ousted from the board. The conspiracy theory is that Mick who is very pro magpies stated at the AGM that there was no way Wests Magpies would be re branded as Wests Tigers in NSW Cup or RMC while he was there. A week later he was ousted from the board of Wests Tigers and also as chairman of WS Magpies. There has been no official announcement from WT, WSM or Wests Ahfield as to why he was ousted.

Sounds like the Board got it right to me.

Of course it would to you - that doesn't surprise me.

What are you talking about?

I don't have surprise you at all, don't read my posts. Simples

Are we Wests Tigers or are we still a 50/50 i.e. Half Wests Tigers and half Wests Magpies?

Thought we had got past that.

Lubinskas was only trying to maintain the original agreement that was made when the JV started. That agreement was that both Balmain and Wests would both keep their identities in the next tier down from NRL. But hey as a club WT have failed at most things so why not fail at trying to keep the integrity of the original JV agreement as well.

That agreement is 22 years old, isn't it about time we updated our understanding on lower-tier teams? It should be Wests Tigers all the way down. Merge the junior teams too wherever it's a city-wide (rather than regional) competition. What's the point of funding two teams at junior level?

I couldn't care less what they do - i was just re hashing what i had heard was the reason for Lubinskas being removed from the board. I have no idea if its true or not. But as usual from the club all we get is the sound of crickets which makes the conspiracy theory more plausible.

You’re missing my point . Brooks is 26 , so would have been planned out to 2025 at the earliest as the half . So now , if we get Reynolds , that timeline moves forward , as I don’t think anyone seriously thinks he will last beyond a 2 yr contract .
So then getting/ developing the future half of our team , is really , really important .
Madden will be 24 around then , so maybe it’s him ? But you can’t be so short sighted . If we go for Reynolds , then that means we have to have our halfback of the future in the club at the same time .

But atm, there are 2 possible 7’s looking for a gig, waiting will no doubt mean they are no longer available.

I believe the club has come through some very tough times and have tried many different things, e.g. bringing the young talent through. Basically it hasn’t worked.
Then Ivan came in and brought some reasonable replacements, who unfortunately all failed for differing reasons. And of course hamstrung us with our salary cap.

Now we have a good management in place, a reasonable team developing (I think we will make the top eight) and have 2 spots to fill, with a pocket full of cash. I don’t think we have been in this position for a long time?

If we don’t start winning on a consistent note, nobody of note will want to come.

All I’m suggesting is that the club do something, in the areas we are weak in. I’m sure (hope) they are.

Our 7 is but one of them.

I think it should be kept in house, we get enough bad media as it is.

Yea , as long as the pathways are clearly defined , and the squads spend a fair bit of thier time together training , it’s kind of irrelevant . I like the panthers psychology of having the u20s/ cc cup ,
Training on a particular field , in rhythm with the main team. Just to create the “one day I’ll be on that field “ tenacity, and ambition . It’s a good visual image of a sometimes , not so clear , idea.

We are not a 50/50 JV, not even close, Balmain haven’t paid anything for a long time, Wests own 90%, could’ve been 100% as Balmain pay nothing. So that is why we have Wests Magpies as a reserve grade team

It's not Western suburbs or Balmain any longer
It's Wests Tigers and has been for almost 20 years
I don't care who owns the joint
I followed Balmain until they merged with Western suburbs
Now I follow Weststigers
It could be owned by Kylie Minogue for all I care
Who owns it is irrelevant to a supporter
Who really thinks about the owner of a club when games are being played
As far as I am concerned Balmain doesn't exist any more
Nor dose Western suburbs
All grades should be known as Wests Tigers
They are still owned by the same people
I don't even mind the fact that they wear predominantly wests colours
To me it's the Name that we all associate with
I myself would like to thank the Wester suburbs arm of our club for saving us all from oblivion
Some of the behaviour from the hierarchy over the years has been nothing more than childish
We are now one club
And we should act like it

I was answering in response to a poster who didn't think we should wear our black jumpers to honour Tommy who never played for WestsTigers. I was pointing out Wests pay the bills, so that is why the reserve grade is called Wests
