if you're going to suggest Staggs or Gagai then don't, it won't happen. Who've you got in mind that's off contract that is a realistic chance of coming here and shoring up our edges in defence? Naden certainly won't fix that.

Joe O .... Did you write the wrong name down ???

He has been great for us this year and yesterday he had 148m , 56 post meters, 4 tackle breaks and 32 tackles with 1 miss... He should be starting every week as he is putting in the effort required for me. Agree with the rest though and would like Simpkin in 14 with game time to keep LIddle on his toes.

He was disgraceful, a miss must only be counted if you touch them, he is not a backrower, madge needs to stop playing props at lock.

Well he's not a backrower, and should never play there again in his life. But as a prioy he's very good

His place is on the interchange bench.

No. He's our best prop or lock option at this stage. Just don't play him out wide. Hopefully he'll be named at 13 this arvo.

We need to drop twal to the bench. Can't afford to start with both Tamou and twal on the field at the same time when they both offer the same thing. Do people on here think it's a coincidence that in the last 2 games one of these two have only played 28 mins? We can't have two solid plodders on at the same time. One can replace the other in the prop rotation if necessary but really one of the two are likely to fall out of the 17 with the stronger and more impactful players like Stefano, Mikaele and Amone to provide the impact we lack.

Might be. But this is realistic where we are as a franchise and what is realistic. You can forget your Staggs/coates etc. They ain't coming. Not saying these players to sign but that calibre is where we are at.

Shaun Johnson would be an interesting pick up.

I personally think he is just another Benji (rocks and diamonds) and at 31 and coming off a serious injury I would pass. He is also asking like 700 to 800k and thats way to high.

Some 'really' big decisions will need to be made and made correctly. How we use our cap space will basically determine the next few years.

It is hard as you never really know 'what version' of a player you are getting. i.e. let's say you sign Reynolds for 2 million for 3 years...

Do you get the great game manager, who is keeping his body in shape this year, who wants to win badly each week...

OR

Do you get a bloke whose heart is not really in it post Souths...works a little less hard without a premiership to aim at ... hammys go and misses lots of games...basically comes to make sure of his post retirement top up, and then heads back to Souths for his post career / ambassador type role..

You just don't really know...but we basically have to get these things right.

Doesn’t make sense too, if his injury is so bad they avoid contact at training how does he play so many games without missing any or being rested at the very least.

I'm not sure how common it is, but Terry Lamb didn't do contact training for years due to niggling injuries. Still played.

yep. the recruitment for 2022 decides the fate of the whole football department. we've spoken about the end of the Cleary buys, well they're all about to end at once. I'm a massive Hartigan fan but if he gets this wrong he could pay for it with his job like Kelly Egan did.

We are not anywhere till buy or develop a play maker like Munster. The odds of buying one is very slim. So we have to uncover one from somewhere

Scenario 2 for me and I don't think he would sign with us anyway for that reason. What established half would want to step into Luke Brooks shoes at the moment?
Ballin JReynolds havnt we been burned enough by players who have been forced out of clubs who don't want to be here. It's alright if they walk into a winning environment, but when you are looking to them to get you there you are are setting yourself up for disappointment .

if I was manager of Reynolds I would tell him do not touch us at all
look what we did with Josh Reynolds and the rest of our team steer clear unfortunately for us

1. Reynolds is a no go. Chronic injury, getting old (i.e. retirement contract) and isn't a stand out at a great team. Red flags everywhere. Did we learn nothing from McQueen?
2. Oates can't even get a run in Brisbane and you think he'll be good for us? Very lazy winger who's often out of position - just what we don't need.

We should go after some hard working, solid players. Jeez Corey Thompson and Paul Momorovski would be nice to have right now. So glad we got rid of two hard working, high effort players for what we have now

I've seen multiple people bring this up now, but I just happened to respond to your post, so this isn't a personal shot at you:

In the last five seasons, this is how many games Adam Reynolds has played (not including all five rounds he's played this year🙂

2020 - 23 out of the 23 games that Souths played last year (less games due to COVID)
2019 - 25 out of 27 games
2018 - 24 out of 27 games
2017 - 21 out of 24 games

So not counting this year, in the last four years he's played 93 out of a possible 101 games. He's turning up 92% of the time. He also played all finals games in 2018-2020 that Souths featured in (they missed the finals in 2017,) so he's also there when it matters.

Brooks has played the following in the same period:

2020 - 17 out of 20
2019 - 24 out of 24
2018 - 24 out of 24
2017 - 17 out of 24

Brooks has appeared in 82 out of 92 games - 89% appearance rate

Should we dump Brooks for being injury prone?

EDIT: Sorry I had to update figures as I didn't remove Bye rounds!

Reynolds doesn't do contact at Souths training and they refuse to offer him more than a year because of it. Bringing up how many games he played in 2017 is frankly irrelevant.

He's not good enough to warrant the risk and even if he was we never get the good outcome of the risk

OK remove 2017, he has still played 90 out of 98... It's still 92%. I have given data that doesn't support this narrative that he is "always injured."

2 focus areas for me

1. A backrower - priority order - Angus Crichton, Jayden Sua and Kurt Capewell.

2. Centres and Wingers - ditch Joey and JTJ next year and look for Corey Oates or Daniel Tupou on the wing and centres Kotoni Staggs, Brent Naden, sebastian Kris abd mayby Will hopoate abd pick 2 of those in that order. My other option for centre is to keep Moses Mbye - i think he is doing a fine job when playing centre and also a great back up. If we keep him on 4-500k

Then we make a decision on halves one way or another. Id keep Brooks but if not then bring in Shaun Johnson

The best thing the Tigers could do is bring in Reynolds, move Brooks to a running 6 and move Douhiei to the centres. Recruit Dane Gagai and Corey Oates. It would solve our play making issues and strengthen our outside backs. It’s a simple fix but no one will sign here.

If that’s the case year it down and start again via junior development and young players looking to make a name for themselves.

Yep not bad that suggestion,

That could work!

I think all three would give it some thought if they knew that the other two were coming - if you get what I'm saying. It's getting that first signature that might lure the others that is the problem. Do they do package deals these days??? lol

This is it. Like the titans we need to massively overpay for a star. There is nothing else appealing then a paycheck at the moment

Not sure when I said he's 'always injured' but he's developed a chronic back problem which for now is mild enough to play but bad enough that he doesn't do contact at training and bad enough that Souths won't extend him

You've mentioned this a couple of times and it's been refuted by South's players. He (apparently) does all their contact sessions.

I'm NOT saying we should sign him but we shouldn't be propagating things which appear untrue.
