I was reminded this morning that we could have got Alex Johnson from Souths for this season had we paid a reasonable amount (these are his words in the media I'm going off).

He would come in handy about now.

'Wherever he wants' is not good business - unless we move on Brooks he doesn't really have a spot here and can understand why the club wouldn't be after him.

We need wingers and centres and second rowers a lot more than another spine player. He's good but I don't see him playing as well outside of the Melbourne system either.

If we do end up letting Brooks go to the Raiders i hope we are balls deep in on Hynes say 1 or 6 the rest depends on you. He gets the 1 Laurie goes to 6 but personally for me i would leave Laurie at 1 and use Hynes at 6 Hastings 7 Doueihi can stay at 3 Bj can head back to Oporto.

Those three players are slow. Where is the spark to come from?

Mate Hynes is not slow. Watch Melbourne's game last week. The amount of times he beats blokes to go through the line is unbelievable. His top end over say 70m might not be top end but he has great acceleration

He's no speedster. You want us to have the slowest halves combination in the NRL?

Another one of those players that are fast enough and good enough for Melbourne but not good enough by a long chalk to play for the incredibly successful Tigers.

I like Laurie and he has been one of our best but I think right now Hynes is the better fullback. Hynes is far more confident and is always on or around the ball which would be a huge boost to our current spine/game plan/structure.
Having Laurie as a bench utility and a backup fullback/half would be great and still give him the opportunity to develop. Having them compete with each other would be good for everyone.

Laurie is a future star and we should bench him for 3 years? That does nothing for his development at all, what position would he play off the bench?

Best way for him to develop is to keep playing, he's a good player and will continue to get better. Bench him for 3 years and he'll be gone pretty quickly. Fullback is not an issue in our team, our edges are and that's where we need to focus our recruitment not on positions we've already got sorted

Give me Tupou, Morris x2, TPJ and isaako over hynes any day. Makes our team stronger overall

Papenhuyzen and Hughes didn't even play

And Hynes still killed it
He is currently a significant upgrade on many of our players and including Brooks IMO
Brooks could become the next Ben Hunt to accommodate him
And why not
Brooks can tackle, he can pass and he can run from Dummy half
Will Hynes still be this good or better in the coming weeks months and years
That is the ?

I should add that I don't think Liddle will be here next year
Unless he is cheap
But he will be chasing the $
Some how I don't think we will give him what he wants
But other clubs will

haha sorry mate. We either offer unders to them or offer plenty for them to turn us down. Again, not going to make you feel any better I just don't understand how we cant seem to sign backs. Gildart hardly counts.

We should look at hynes as a centre

Not fast, a light body. I dont see him successful at centre. He does have a good passing game. IMO he is a 1, maybe a 6 nothing else.

Best way for him to develop is to keep playing, he's a good player and will continue to get better. Bench him for 3 years and he'll be gone pretty quickly. Fullback is not an issue in our team, our edges are and that's where we need to focus our recruitment not on positions we've already got sorted

Laurie may become a star, he may not. Giving Laurie 20 min off teh bench like Storm did with Hughes, Paps and Hynes seems like development. Play him as a loose forward just playing in support or play him as dummy half, but there will be injuries.

Hynes is closer to being a star right now.

If Brooks leaves and i dont expect him too then we could look at Hynes to play 5/8. Hastings at halfback and Douehi in the centres with Gildart the other centre.

If the Raiders want Brooks we will take Hodgson for a couple of years while Simpkin develops

Makes perfect sense.
Hastings, Hynes, Hodgson and, to a lesser extent, Gildart make us a whole lot better.

Only one of those 4 players has any NRL experience playing in the positions that they would be playing at the Tigers....Hodgson.

You just need to be quick between the ears sometimes the speed should be outside of them and behind them in Laurie. Just where has Brooks being quick gotten us exactly?
