Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Interesting stat but the quality of offloads is important as well as who is receiving the ball. We might offload but still can’t get out of our half whereas Panthers, Storm seem to get rolling immediately. Can’t progress if the receiver is slow or flat footed or has no confidence in the offloader.

Yep, and that's why it's silly to say "offloads are what we need". We have offloads. We need quality and effort.

From my perspective he took all the hard hit ups when it mattered, and two in the one set when the game was on the line. If people are expecting him to set up the winning try then you won't be happy with him. But if you want someone who will put their hand up and do the hard work in the middle then he is your man.

Unfortunately we don't have any forwards willing to do this at the minute, so I am not sure of the level of negativity. We will just keep hitting it up through our outside backs in our own 20 and going backwards, so Brooks can kick it from our own 30 meter line. It has worked well so far....

I do agree with you there, but from my perspective we have Twal that pretty much does the same job for cheaper.
Of course the difference in experience goes without saying.
I’ve been a big supporter of him (Finucane) don’t get me wrong, but I would be much happier signing him after signing TPJ as I am starting to see the impact on our side in having too many middles that are unable to bend the line and get us forward.
His defence however is second to none and is something we desperately need.
However one could argue that if we’re able to play the game on the other side of the field more often we wouldn’t need to defend in our half as much.

There’s offloads and then there’s wests tigers offloads, meaning it’s usually one of BJ, LL or Nofo throwing dumb and unnecessary offloads in our own 20 that results in either shit all happening or turning the ball over. I barely see any from any of our forward pack.

I agree that Finucane is a good plodder along the lines of Twal. I'd keep Twal over Finucane. There is no way we need another forward in that mold.

He is a good player. Tamou and Twal are good players. I think Twal is probably the best option over the next couple of years out of the three of them.

It'd be madness for us to throw marquee dollars at Finucane. We should throw that money only at players like Latrell.

Mikaele is the only one that does it, but his hands let him down. Hopefully Simpkins can improve us in this area.

Quick update;

1) Tim sheens is boarding a flight tomorrow

2) Tigers confirming with NRL if final spot is still to be filled by 1st of Aug due to Covid

Seems like an incredibly stupid and naive question. Surely all clubs have known what the rules are for some time. We do what we can to get someone from outside and then promote someone like Pauga if necessary

They are asking if the current situation changes the requirement, makes sense to me?

But all the players are in the same bubble in Queensland. We probably wouldn't be asking to bring in someone from outside. If it was a promotion of a junior even then Pauga is already with us up there in any case. So not sure what difference it makes, just that we're stalling

It's not about who is in the bubble, it is about who moves into the top 30 in regards to player payments etc.

I believe the teams in QLD are made up of 30 players plus 11 staff 41 in total.

We took up 29 players and 12 staff + truck load of equipment .

+ Robbie didn't go into bubble so didn't travel to QLD.

He would be no better than Josh Jackson outside the Melbourne system IMO

You're more than likely correct - we would have been best off getting him 5 years ago at the peak of his powers.

No, I don't think he is either. On field he's an honest toiler and I don't think it's wise to pay
big overs for intangibles like leadership.

Completely agreed and when you realise he reportedly wants 800k to be with us he would be just another old overpaid bloke getting his pension

Yep. He would be greatly exposed at a dud team like ours then we would talk about what a terrible purchase he was for the next 4 years

He’d be a great addition to a decent pack that isn’t getting belted every set. Unfortunately ours is not even close to decent

I just love how he charges to the line on every hit-up.
Nothing compared to our guys.

Agreed. We can add Finucane to the list of players the forum doesn't think good enough to represent the hugely successful Tigers.
Other notables include JAC, Latrell, Burton, Nicho Hynes, Cotric, Cameron Smith and TPJ.
Bums the lot of 'em not worthy of representing the Wests juggernaut.

Aww you’re a tad sensitive aren’t you? 😀

Finucane is an aging lock/prop looking for his retirement cheque
For the record I was a huge fan of bringing Latrell, JAC and Hynes to the club
