Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Finucane's effort reminded me of how some of our forwards play ( one out). We don't need a Tamou Mark 2. Offloaders are what we need to stretch the possession from 6 to 9 or twelve tackles like the top teams do . No Finucane please.

I'll back us for the spoon next year,
the dogs have a far more improved roster and will jump us
the broncos have improved in the key spots they lacked and will jump us
if it's not us then a team has had their points stripped for salary cap rorting

We are very good chance for next year to grab the spoon, but I think we are even a better chance to snatch it this year .

Do you actually bother to look at the competition ladder?

Another one giving predictions for 15 months away.

Thanks for the advice, but I do !!

Do you bother to look at how other teams are recuiting/building compared to our team

Another one just with head in the clouds

**not even just the recruiting**
the dogs play with more passion and drive than us and they have been bottom of the ladder for 3 years, the coach is a given for next year
the broncos are never down and out for long and Arey and co. will definitely help them out of that slump and every man and his dog wants to be a donkey
where are the tigers, can't sign a single marquee or can't find one that fits the team at the right price point, madge is a dead man walking according to some, the players are on their final notice according to others. about 3 blokes play with any sort of drive or motivation to perform.
the cowboys may give us a run for the spoon

How many Marquee players did the Riff and the Storm sign?

none, but they either had a coach that was cemented in their place, play with passion/drive/motivation/desire

I'm not a death-riding them, I'm being realistic, we are the only club of the bottom 3 who hasn't signed a bunch of guys who could get us out of this rut. our coach is on eggshells, the playing group is on notice. we aren't in a desirable location, we have 12 home grounds. what is there currently that between us and the dogs and broncos would make someone go "i'd prefer the tigers"? we have this "warchest" but so far that hasn't even attracted enough guys, the broncos have the jersey, location and the weekends off, the dogs have all this cash (apparently), a coach who has a secure job at least for next year and a jersey that is worn with pride.
for whatever reason we haven't got that pride down pact. we should, we have 2 proud heritages and a current one, and yet somehow they didn't manage to get that across to the blokes running around wearing the jumper
arguably our weakest spot is speed/wingers, and the guys we trialled from lower grades were proven not to be ready this year and now with the lower grade canned (or highly likely to be) they probably won't be any better equipped for nrl next year.
sure broncos and dogs have a new spine, but they will be in a better position this time next year with new combinations gelling, than we are running around with the same makeshift speedsters and x-factor 2nd rowers.

You lost me after saying ...."12 home grounds"

The point is they signed NO marquee players - they use juniors or mediocre players and turn them into solid players but a first rate team. However you are coming up with multiple assumptions (most incorrect I would say) and just generally putting in the boot.

We have the team we have, (no marquees coming), to me, our plan going forward seems to be a few solid players with experience, (have picked a couple of duds in JTJ and Joeyjuniors). Building up our junior base, a couple are ready, most are not. We have to wait for them to reach a standard, or risk injury (like Walker, Walsh and Suaalii).

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, that is yours. I disagree, that is mine.

However, enjoy your half cold cup of tea, because you didn't wait for the kettle to boil.

Anyone supporting paying that guy marquee dollars is a fool or trying to stuff the club up long term.

Seems like an incredibly stupid and naive question. Surely all clubs have known what the rules are for some time. We do what we can to get someone from outside and then promote someone like Pauga if necessary

They are asking if the current situation changes the requirement, makes sense to me?

But all the players are in the same bubble in Queensland. We probably wouldn't be asking to bring in someone from outside. If it was a promotion of a junior even then Pauga is already with us up there in any case. So not sure what difference it makes, just that we're stalling

It's not about who is in the bubble, it is about who moves into the top 30 in regards to player payments etc.

I’ll tell you one player who definitely has a future in the NRL — Will Pryce from Huddersfield Giants. Hasn’t played a whole lot but big wraps on him over there. Made his debut the other week. Plays as a stand-off over there, 18 years old and seems like a good kid

He’s the son of former Great Britain great Leon Pryce if anyone knows him![64DEBB6D-157D-495D-8AEA-ACCB9D37356C.jpeg](/assets/uploads/files/1626277442883-64debb6d-157d-495d-8aea-accb9d37356c.jpeg)

Has Tim signed him up for WTs? No doubt he'd have good insights into his potential.

I believe the teams in QLD are made up of 30 players plus 11 staff 41 in total.

That is correct, but I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't take our top 30 players. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that we didn't take Packer for example.

Why would they take Packer? The quicker he leaves WT the better it is for the club.

I've heard this said a lot and I just don't get it. We're third in the comp in offloads. Broncos are first. Doesn't seem to help much.

As for Finucane, I was underwhelmed last night, but he did have the most metres of any forward in the game.

Interesting stat but the quality of offloads is important as well as who is receiving the ball. We might offload but still can't get out of our half whereas Panthers, Storm seem to get rolling immediately. Can't progress if the receiver is slow or flat footed or has no confidence in the offloader.

From my perspective he took all the hard hit ups when it mattered, and two in the one set when the game was on the line. If people are expecting him to set up the winning try then you won't be happy with him. But if you want someone who will put their hand up and do the hard work in the middle then he is your man.

Unfortunately we don't have any forwards willing to do this at the minute, so I am not sure of the level of negativity. We will just keep hitting it up through our outside backs in our own 20 and going backwards, so Brooks can kick it from our own 30 meter line. It has worked well so far....
