Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I will probably get laughed at for this but I reckon Nofoaluma can move to fullback when Laurie goes down. Then the defence just slides one out. Nofo is good under high ball and good kick returns. Laurie's defence isn't any better than Nofa's.
I reckon this is why we don't need to pick Mbye for the sake of covering positions, it's a waste of a spot on the team when we've got guys like Jake Simpkin, Kiah Cooper, Zac Cini, Jock Madden, Alex Seyfarth & Shawn Blore who need first grade experience.

I don’t fancy seeing LL defend in the centres.

Sorry weststigerman I'm new at the forum and don't know how to reply properly.

Can't disagree with you on LL, but my point was mainly that Mbye can't be picked for this sole reason.

Even if we were to get Milf at bargain basement prices, where would you play him?

I don't think he's better than Brooks or Doueihi in the halves based on current form.

I don't think he's better than Laurie at fullback based on his current form.

Would you move any of those three from their positions to give him a go? I wouldn't.

My concern, is that we don't have anyone who can handle fullback if Laurie is out for any reason. It is such an important position today, we need a quality winger/centre who can play FB. At a cheap price only he would be valuable, i think he is underrated.

that's why i was hoping for DWZ before we got ken doll; nowhere near first choice fullback but if an injury strikes laurie at least we have someone who knows what they are doing there

Isn't Hastings currently playing Fullback for Wigan..has been for a month or so..

His versatility is one of the reasons he was signed..

What's good with Lomax?
Can we make a move?

Pretty Sure Lomax is under contract for 3 more years..

I would like to know our next target though so we can start our next 300 page heartbreak... Going to miss my checking the TPJ updates throughout the day

I heard some goss from one of your reliable insiders.

Dragons players may not wanna play with Lomax any more.

Put the kettle on, we are going to burn the midnight oil, agonising over Lomax now.

I'll start, I've not really noticed him before, I know we were interested, but he knocked us back?
I know he is a goal kicker (but we got a couple now), what else does he have going for him? i.e. Defence, speed, footy smarts?

Lomax is a very good defender, quick and a natural footballer.
He was one of the players Madge tried to get to the club.
He also had a go at Saab, Brimson, Reece Walsh and Sami, so he is a good judge of talent.

He is, he just can't sign them though

It’s a tad far away but what if we targeted Isiaah Papalii for 2023? Can negotiate with other clubs from November 1 and I’m sure with parras cap, they can’t afford to give him what he’s really earned. I’m sure he will re sign with parra for cheaper because they gave him the opportunity but Edge second rowers don’t get more dynamic. So hard to put down on first contact and offers a ton of second phase play. He is easily worth 6-700k

That would be great on 2 fronts, one he is a great player in a position we need strengthening, and 2 it would be good to get one over Parra, a lot to like about signing him

Lol the rugby league and contracts is a funny animal. We have to face reality. We have no idea what happens during negotiations. But what we do is that there are 3 types of payments. The agreed salary 1. And then there is the TPA 2. Both of which are registered with the NRL and then there is the 3rd component. The brown paper bag. Well this component dare I say is hidden and not disclosed and is most cases the difference between getting a signature or not!

Yea i think Arthur Laundy is ordering his paper bags from the same place Uncle Nick gets his. I also heard that Laundy had taken up golf.

Actually he’s always been a golfer.

I think Laundy is a member @ Strathfield Golf Club.

So is Adam D…hope the publican keeps away from him

My targets would continue to be - Tapine, Klemmer, Lane all of whom are nrl starters relegated to the bench at their exisitng club and therfore likely looking for a way out.

Id be front paying our left over 500k into Mbyes next yrs contract and then sending him to the dragons for 300k opening up his whole salary next year.

Then id resign Mikelle or Seyfarth but prob not both - put 2 contracts down and 1st to sign gets it

Id prob also look to add a good defebsive centre but im not horribly unhappy with Gildart, AJ and Talau so wouldnt overspend but more hold some cash for a top quality one that comes available

Our recruitment team should forget about these big name signings , because, the more publicity these players get , the bigger their head grows and so does the price other clubs have to pay to entice them.
IMHO Hartigan and co should seriously focus on the best , next in line to play NRL players , who are stuck behind current first graders.
There are some good ones out there , that i believe can and will make a difference.

Good point and agree.. I don't want to keep moving AD around as he clearly wants the 6 and deserves it.. If we keep moving him around he might get sick of it and say I'm out when contract is up.. He is our future captain in my eyes.

I think Mbye is more than capable as a BACK UP fullback option.

Ummmmmm

Laurie HIA off field towards end of half 1

Guess who went FB...and how did he go?

Yea............

Hoops is honestly lowest of the low when it comes the rugby league journalism
He has zero input into rugby league knowledge he just looks for drama filled stories and makes them look 10 times worse than they are and if he can’t find anything he seems to just make it up. I used to be a big fan of nrl 360 but there days it’s just a bunch of drama fuelled rubbish

Just because we don't like what they report, does not mean it is made up

Serious question, have we made a high profile signing since Adam Blair?

My mental list after that seems to be blokes who had seen better days.

**Tigers swap offer to Raiders *never happened* but NRL executives get creative as deadline looms**

League officials have denied an offer from the Tigers to swap halfback Luke Brooks and utility Moses Mbye for Canberra's Josh Hodgson and Origin five-eighth Jack Wighton was ever made.

Not sure who the "league officials" are?

Yeah he missed a tackle on Flegler, whilst off balance from 1 metre out. When you are running sideways on your line, and a guy steps from that distance, no fullbacks are stopping him. Yeah .... so many fullbacks would have made that tackle.

He has played FB at us and for other clubs and done a reasonable job. I am not a fan of him, and want him moved on, but lets be realistic and not make stupid statements.

perfect 14 if we don't run mbye or simpkin

Thats the only way you'd consider him and i certainly hope we arent. But if Mbye moves on then he could theoretically slot into his spot. But then theres the question about where they see Hastings going forward what that means for Brooks. Im guessing the smoke around Brooks is real and we are banking on Hastings and Doueihi in the halves.

i wouldn't be letting brooks go just yet
i would like to see hastings get a run around first before we let our only halfback go, if he doesn't fit the team dynamic at hfb then test him out as a ball playing lock, or brooks and hastings in the halves doueihi centre
plenty of options to explore before letting brooks go

at the moment cant see mbye going anywhere

I agree i wouldnt be letting Brooks go yet either im just looking at a different angle of what the club may think. I myself would rather see Brooks and Hastings go head to head and see who comes out ontop. I think Doueihi is a 5/8 thats where id leave him. I dont see Hastings as a lock i think thats a throw off, trust me i dont want the Milf but our recruitment make some strange choices.

Question - With Paul Vaughn looking like joining the Dogs on the cheap side do we look at entering the party??
He would come cheap and it would not be long term but he would come into the 13 straight up. If we don't get him at least it will make dogs pay more

I would have no problems getting him for 400-450k for 2 years and not for his leadership but more for his work he does on the field.
