Geez, my excitement level is peaking. ? This is really the best we can do (Woods, Siro, MCK) and none are going to be paid overs. So no worse. Especially if the thief (Mbye) is offloaded. Assuming Lomax is a just a forum dream. Also Curtis and Garner swap or similar?

We need to go global and maybe even cross-code. It’s depressing what’s available across the NRL teams

There is plenty out there at the moment, contracts mean nothing. I heard that the expansion being put on hold has forced the hand of players managers who are trying to get new deals. In the words of a player manager based in Brisbane “it’s a buyers market” . There is still 3 months to go before the start of the new season & plenty to play out before the end of the season including a few Tigers who should be fighting to save their careers. The deadline is gone there is no rush to sign anyone now.

BENNETT PLOTS NEXT MOVE

Champion coach Wayne Bennett has ruled out taking on a job with a Sydney-based NRL side next season and remains committed to returning to the city of Brisbane next year.

The seven-time premiership-winner’s name has been linked with the Parramatta Eels and Wests Tigers but Bennett is guaranteed to remain in Queensland.

There was a school of thought with the NRL delaying a decision on expansion Bennett may be open to an offer from another Sydney NRL club for 2022.

But Bennett is adamant it won’t be happening.

With the Rabbitohs on an eight-match winning streak now is generally the time when the super shrewd 71-year-old coach begins fine-tuning his team for a tilt at the title.

Like Bart Cummings preparing a horse for the Melbourne Cup, Wayne knows as well as any coach in the business what is required at this time of the year.

Provided South Sydney can get their defence in order against the other big gun sides - particularly premiers Melbourne - the Rabbitohs are in the fight.

There’s no question outgoing halfback Adam Reynolds and Bennett would be revelling in the opportunity to try and finish their time at South Sydney with the club’s 22nd premiership.
