Queensland stars Ben Hunt and Felise Kaufusi have taken up options to remain at the Dragons and Storm respectively as Titans skipper Jamal Fogarty has inked a new deal to stay at his club.

The NRL's final 2021 squad listings have been officially announced after this week's mid-season transfer deadline passed.

The Roosters have rewarded a trio of emerging NRL regulars with new two-year-deals, with Billy Smith, Drew Hutchison and Fletcher Baker re-signing until the end of 2023.

For Hutchison and Smith especially, the extensions come after long-term injury battles that limited their first-grade opportunities.

The future is bright at Bondi Junction with teen tyro Joseph Suaalii having options in his favour to extend his two-year deal at the Roosters into 2023 and 2024.

At the Dragons, Hunt has opted into the final year of his deal for 2023 while centre Zac Lomax's has done likewise with his long-term deal, enacting the final-year option in his in favour for 2026.

Kaufusi remaining at Melbourne is another boost for the premiers on the back of the recent deals announced for fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen and coach Craig Bellamy.

Fogarty was already locked in at the Titans for another 12 months but will remain at the club until the end of 2023, while Gold Coast prop Herman Ese'ese has taken up his 2022 option.

Warriors livewire Reece Walsh has a 2024 clause in his favour, as do Parramatta pair Mitchell Moses (2024) and Maika Sivo (2023).

For the August 2 deadline for 2021 rosters to be finalised, each club is able to carry up to two players who had their contracts terminated, as agreed in the amended CBA.

No more Zac Lomax rumours lol

Did you notice Egan Butcher was not included in the trio of announcement of re-signings of emerging regulars at the Roosters?

Yes. That’s good for us. Our offer must be competitive. Something has to go our way for once on the signings front. I would have liked Fletcher Baker also though but he probably wasn’t a target with us trying to sign Hellum Luki.

Tbh him locking in his 2026 just means that whoever takes on his contract from the Dragons has to take that too now. If anything this is a strong sign that he wants to leave because if he wasn't he has less incentive to do this now. It's even possible that whoever is in discussions with him and the Dragons to get him asked for this to happen first so he wouldn't have the options for 2026.

Doesn't work like that though..if he were to go elsewhere he would have to be released from his current contract at the Dragons ..there is no onus on the new Club to match terms ..it's a new contract..be it in length or money..

So we offload one nomad without a position for another. That would make two in 2022 if you include Hastings.

Hastings will be #7

I would be suprised if he is

I would be very suprised if he isn’t. He is a playmaker and an organiser. I’ve watched a few of his games and he is a half back. Just what we need.

You could certainly see that he has potential to be used as a ball playing lock. The games I’ve watched he plays like a second fullback he follows the ruck everywhere then jumps out into the backline on a shift. So he’d play the same way through the middle and wouldn’t get as involved in the backline play. I know he is a 7 but he is also a very good 9. That style could work for Hastings. As such you always have a guy around the ruck that is energising the players looking for changes in shape and taking advantage of it. I know Victor Radley is a decent ball player but Hastings at lock would be a slightly less aggressive version but probably even better ball playing skill.

Can’t argue with that. Very will said.

They do inherit the contract. Just like the dragons are doing with Mbye. They'll be inheriting his contract for the final year albeit subsidized by our club. So I dont see why The Wests Tigers couldnt inherit the full Lomax contract.
Give him his $500k to $550k a year for 5 years.

Give me an example where what your saying is true. Every contract release ends up with the full length of the previous clubs contract.
No player is going to negotiate otherwise.
However a 6 year deal on half a mil might be cheap value year to year after a few years so the player instead might opt for a shorter deal.
In the hope of renegotiating a bettervdeal per year .Essentially though the player releases expects his current value of deal to be honoured.

Tbh him locking in his 2026 just means that whoever takes on his contract from the Dragons has to take that too now. If anything this is a strong sign that he wants to leave because if he wasn't he has less incentive to do this now. It's even possible that whoever is in discussions with him and the Dragons to get him asked for this to happen first so he wouldn't have the options for 2026.

Doesn't work like that though..if he were to go elsewhere he would have to be released from his current contract at the Dragons ..there is no onus on the new Club to match terms ..it's a new contract..be it in length or money..

Most get longer...it's a new contract..

It's up to the player to negotiate the terms of release

ah I thought it was more like the NFL where they basically just inherit the contract in full

They do inherit the contract. Just like the dragons are doing with Mbye.

Nope. Its a new Contract. Might have the same terms and conditions, but its an entirely new Contract.

We're going to give then a half price Mbye for nothing in return... except a spot on our roster.

Why would Lomax opt into his 2026 deal now as that seem strange..

That's the strangest thing I've ever heard.
Did anyone mention to him he has another 4 years at least to decide?
Would still look better in a Wests Tigers jersey.

I was just thinking or maybe hoping about this Lomax extension..
Maybe just maybe if he is working on leaving he needs to take up this option so a transfer is cleaner and will include the 2026 year.. Someone was saying lawyers are involved so this might be a good sign.

No. You wouldn’t extend prior to agreeing to a release and signing with another club as it’s a new contract. The extension means he’s staying.

You only extend 4 years early if you've heard a rumour the tigers want you

I’ll take it.

Is Lomax rumoured to come to the club next year? And if so what's the likely timeline for it to be finalised?

About 4 years
