Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

At a guess . . . if we ain't an attractive option, players will resist coming to us. Overs, schmovers.
If you were Egan's, or Smith-Shields's father . . . and your son came to you and said "The Roosters/Raiders are offering me $360k . . . and WT are offering me $400k" . . . where would you suggest your son plays ?

Mate if the roosters offered that, I’d go 450k and add on a extra year

Further to @THE_POM post, Smith - Shields has resigned for 2 more years at the raiders according to the Canberra times

Another one we lost?…he stayed for less

Maybe Jarrod Croker's knee and loss of form has given the young guy a window onto First Grade. Anyway, move on.

Waa Waa Waa but I wanted Butcher...and HSS...waaa

Doing my best to fit in with the previous posters.

I didn’t want either. It’s still funny.

Egan Butcher has re-signed with the Roosters. 2 year deal. NEXT!

If true there is another one to add a massive list of players who have said no thanks. The last few are happy to stay where they are and remain in the que for a first grade job.

Back to the drawing boards for the 100th time

I can't recall a team ever going after so many players and landing none of them. It must be some kind of record.

Have we gone after all of them, or has this forum said we have?

Pom said we’d gone after Butcher and advised us yesterday HSS was staying in Canberra. All the others were also confirmed on here by people in the know too. Players just don’t want to play here.

exactly
we can't hide behind this oh have we actually gone after these players
we have
Some forum members with good mail have said we have
Butcher
Harley Smith shields
and we know about
Latrell
JAC
Finucane
TPJ

we can not buy an egg at present

The big names rejected us..

And now the rookies like Egan and Harley.

Like my man @Milky says,
"Trust the process"

I hope there is a plan.

My correspondence with the CEO last week leads me to believe, the plan is.... we wait.
We wait for cap pressures at other clubs to force decent players to become available or unrest to arise and then we strike, like the Maumalo signing..

Clearly this isn't the BEST plan for some of us fans.
Definitely the slow / long game.
But, alas... trust the process.

Hopefully we land with Lomax type and not... Duran.

Lol before Maumalo the last 2 players we got out of that strategy was Reynolds and Mbye. Stoked for the future….

Lol, rough.

I think they've learnt from those mistakes and don't plan to make them again.

Email the CEO your concerns.
He pretty much confirmed they aren't making anyone offers at the moment and waiting for some players to present themselves from cap pressure or unrest.

Don't get excited for any big movement.

See how the Lomax legal stuff plays out.

But as we re aware Roosters need props and centres too.

I'm not fussed about Butcher or HSS but it is the fact we can't even sign fringe first graders that is laughable
something seriously wrong with recruitment

We will sign the right kind of players. Opportunities will arise.

😎

This is the plan.

Guys I am absolutely lost for words at how we can’t sign anyone. Makes me think management and/or the coach put the players off

it has to be the coach now doesn't it ?

Yep, we lost a reserve grader, now the sky is falling in, give us a break.

Have you seen him play? He has a lot of potential and plays lock which is a position of need. Would you rather have Mikaele? He can’t even hold the ball

All players have potential

If that’s the strategy, the club is doomed. No club that’s successful sits back and waits for the scraps of other clubs. They are proactive and attacking.

Geez now we're whining over missing a reserve grader and a bench player. Might have been good for depth, but they're no better than what we already have.

I get it . . . but what sort of poison do you think the other clubs, and especially player managers would be spouting about the Weststigers ? They don't even have to lie. We are a basket case, and the media constantly reminds the world of this. It would take a herculean effort from whoever is on our recruitment team to negate this. Everyone knows we are garbage. The sports media cannot help but remind everyone that we hold the record for most 9th place finishes since the last team. Etc, etc, etc.
The player managers, especially the likes of Moses and Anasta and God knows who else, would laugh in the face of us and our offers, and happily tell their client to wake up to himself if he even considered an offer from us.
Things need to change. Winning games, management that's seen as capable, and media abuse exemption will all help over time. It ain't gonna get fixed this season or even next. It's a process.
Yes, money talks. But I think a young kid on the up will look at the club and it's potential for him much closer than say, an older player like Tamou who would just take the money and not give a rats who he plays for.
Just look at the majority of our signings over the past 5 or so years.

I think the point is we can’t even attract those kinds of players. Good luck signing anyone more established.

looks like Klemmer is going to Bulldogs

How can they afford him back there.... They will be a shit fight again soon as they are trying to buy premiership. But on the other hand at least they are doing something and there fans have something to look forward to.

We are no chance of Hellum Luki. Forget about it. Probably made a tight offer for him too

The point that is missed seems to be...

No matter how much you offer, way overs as in Latrine - or market value as in the last few.

If they don't want to leave or come here...what do you do? Go after them with a shotgun!

Oh! no, let's blame the coach, let's blame the recruitment team la la la la.....

Don't think so, keep going after the right players at the right price, we may snag one.

In the meantime keep the pathways going and keep pinching other teams future stars from the lower grades.

More than one way to skin a cat.

Thompson is a maybe for me. Great player, but recent weeks have made be less certain of the need for a prop.

Tuilagi and Simpkins look like they'll be ready to make the jump as full-time first graders next year. Ofahengaue is a solid prop. Twal and Stefano can give us 50+ minutes a week with no worries. Mikaele and Musgrove can come off the bench and give us some real impact. Realistically, one of Hastings or Brooks is going to be coming off the bench in the 14 and playing the role of a third ball-player for at least 20 a game.

I mean he presents a tangible upgrade over everyone in the pack bar Stefano and Twal, but I don't think it's enough of an upgrade to justify a long-term deal on good money. Lomax would be a better option in terms of improving the squad, or saving up for a star like Brandon Smith or Joey Manu.

So an International isn't a good enough upgrade. seriously?

the forum has gone mad again. he is a massive, ill say to slowly M A S S I V E upgrade on all bar Stefano. he also wants to win

I agree. He’s often overlooked because he’s playing in such a poor team but I think he’s an elite front rower. He and Stef would be our best middles by some margin.

Stef and Thompson would be the best front row partnership in the game. Thompson is a superstar. I have watched every bulldogs game and he stands out in a team coming dead last. If we had $750,000 for TPJ then we should be all over him. If the bulldogs chip in and we can get him for 4 years then please make it happen.
