Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yeah, but winning games would be brilliant.

Sheens is only temporary anyway, wouldn't have to sack him, just take up the head of football role he was meant to do. Benji can wait an extra year or two if he wants it bad enough and would hopefully be wanted as an assistant.

I don't really care about the hit we'd take in the media, that only matters if we're not good next year and why let media opinion get in the way of a good decision?

I get that it's hard and would look bad and people would be critical, but you're getting a truly elite coach who has done nothing but win his whole life. You make the move, cop the flack and then get called a mastermind when it pans out and actually turns this club around. All that matters in determining the opinion of our club is whether we're winning games or not. Getting Hasler gets us closer to that.
If he brings the Turbo brothers well and good. Otherwise he’s just another lamb to Pascoes slaughter.

Turbo or not, he's gold. Pascoe has no idea what he's doing blabbing on about facilities and some sort of standard and culture he's never come close to creating. Pascoe looks like he's desperate for someone like Hasler to come in and take charge anyway.

Make the move, tigers. I dare you to be good.

Not sure a mad scientist and a clown show are a fantastic mix myself, but hey we’re at rock bottom apparently! Roll the dice.

I think Hasler gets spoken of as a mad scientist a fair bit, but he strikes me as a no nonsense sort of coach who has managed to have success in different ways with different players and different sorts of club situations.

As for the clown, he's probably not a good mix with anyone, though he probably seemed to enjoy himself most with his good buddy Cleary and that managed to produce Packer, Matulino, Reynolds and Mbye, so I'm not really concerned about who would work well with the 'ask the boss' and 'back by popular demand' superstar himself.

Looks like a five-eighth / centre from Newcastle.

Probably the big-name signing that we've been looking for! Just jokes, good luck to the kid.

Tall kid, looks like him at the back here. Under an article "Knights busy building superstar factory..."

Can't access though, behind paywall.

Does anyone know whats happening or not happening with the peachey swap with Stains ? Seems like it gone cold

4 year deal, must be a good prospect. Anybody know more about him?
Posted on Junior Reps 2023 thread but will post here as well:

6 tries in 7 games for Newcastle Harold Matt’s this year. Played centre.

Looks like he only really kicked on this year as he was playing for North Coast in Andrew Johns Cup last year (usually the gun juniors play two years of Matt’s/Ball rather than playing Johns/Daley Cup in between).

Think he turns 18 in 2023.

I hope we steer clear of the Dessie thing .We already are regarded as an unstable club .let's not perpetuate it . Anyway I don't think who the coach is
will be the main factor in 2023 .Rather I think our weak roster is the main thing that will leave us struggling .
My concern is everyday reading about possible players leaving and not much recruitment news . Not counting signing a promising 17 yr old
When I go thru our 28 man roster and ask how many are proven quality 1st graders the number drops considerably

This is not a stab at you - bit Liddle was also touted in the same way.

We can't keep relying on these kids coming good, because so far the opposite happens more often than not.

We need a balance. We need juniors to be successful but not 1 every few years we need groups of them to come through together.

We also need to keep the best unlike throwing them away which we have previously done.

The junior pools shouldn’t be just local but a cross mix injections of talent as well which applies pressure to the scouting networks.

David Klemmer has an offer on the table from the club worth $2.1m over 3 years, the club willing to pick-up the full tab of his $800K deal for 2023 with the remaining 2 years being $650K.

Knights have asked for Brooks in return but want the club to pick-up the $200k difference, Sheens is keen to coach Brooks & don't see this side of things eventuating.

The Staines/Peachey swap is currently at an impasse, Staines want's longer deal than offered, currently our offer is only for the 2023 season, we may go in for 2024 but not the 3 years he's after.

To address the Nanai talk, from a personal belief I see him staying at the Cowboys, but it is true that come November 1 the club will be having a red hot crack at him, this comes after Liam's Martin management informed the club that his options were either Panthers (which he'll most likely stay) or Parramatta.

Musgrove does have significant interest from the Dragons but he's told the club twice now that he doesn't want to leave & earn his place in the 17.

The hope of getting Spencer Leniu seems all but hope Jakes Simpkin has been discussed as a potential swap but he's also be discussed with Eels also for a Swap with Nathan Brown, we aren't the only club looking at Spencer & his management has been speaking to multiple clubs, Storm are well & truly in the mix here.

John Bateman talks have increased recently after Wigan became more reasonable about a potential transfer fee. Don't be surprised if start being linked to St Helens backrower Joe Batchelor, he's signed for 2023 but recently employed a Australian agent & is keen to give the NRL a crack (Sheens knows this) also young Wigan Forward Morgan Smithies has been discussed.

Expecting some noise around Hastings to be come louder publicly soon as it appears unlikely a deal won't be done prior to November 1.

Ok old mate. let Ivan break it down for you

Api- our starter for next year ,and year after
Simpkin- our second hooker, Depth for that position. (I hope he goes away though)
Rua- Into our 30 man squad, another Hooker but should be our lock in time. Depends what happens with Doueihi and Hastings
Mickey Tannous- everything points to him as our future hooker. will be playing for Lebanon in World Cup.

Taylyn Da Silva- 17 years old, Listed as one of Benji's young guns for the future.

Hope this helps
3 years time Taylyn Da Silva probably gets a run in firsts from the bench
