Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Ok with our strategy as a development club, I am speculating that we have set a path into the top 30 for the following players:

Josh Feledy (confirmed top 30 in 2024)
Brandon Mansfield (confirmed dev contract in 2023 & 24)
Jahream Bula (speculating top 30 in 2024 if not sooner)
Jordan Miller (speculating dev contract in 2024 & 25, top 30 in 26)
Tallyn Da Silva (speculating dev contract in 2024, top 30 in 25)
Kit Laulilii (speculating dev contract in 2024 & 25, top 30 in 26)
Solomone Saukuru (speculating dev contract in 2024, top 30 in 25)
Chris Faagutu (speculating dev contract in 2024 & 25, top 30 in 26)

Given 6 spots max are for development contracts, I'm speculating the players above are prioritised for those deals (they were all on T&T deals over summer suggesting they are top of the crop).

Then I think the following are the next tier of 18/19yos & earmarked for progress to Dev/top 30 if they can hit certain KPIs:

Tony Sukkar (likely JF contract in 2024)
Oliver Lawry (likely JF contract in 2024)
Cameron Kanaan (likely JF contract in 2024)
Zak Clarke (likely JF contract in 2024)
Lachlan Galvin (SG Ball senior in 2024)
Heath Mason (SG Ball senior in 2024)

Then under this age group who will be contending for development contracts from 2026 (maybe some in 25):

Luke Laulilii, Onitoni Large, Alex Conti, Heamisi Makasini, Mikey Nasser, Ali Karnib, Alex Isdale, Riley Oitmann, PJ French, Paul Johnson, Ashton Large, Edwin Langi, Dougie Tuala.
No offence but this post sums up the problem of the Tigers being a shit club.

I heard recently that Iro at the Sharks was on a development contract for 2023. I think he's now upgraded to top 30. Here's the kicker, Iro was 2022 Cup player of the year. There's a much higher bar at the top clubs.

The point is, at a good club you have to prove yourself as a young man to get a development deal, not be a wiz kid with a low percentage of actual development.

Look at our Flegg this year. No offence to the guys in it, but its a weak group. Realistically, how many of our 2023 flegg team are going to be chased by top clubs? Yet here we are banking on Matt's and Ball kids to lead us to the promised land.

Flegg going to be shit from covid for a couple of years . We investing in hmatts and sg ball, what's wrong with that

Trying to think as Tim Sheens given he has publicly said we are after an experienced playmaker. If we miss out on George Williams, it wouldn't surprise me if Tim/Benji negotiate with their old pal Todd Payten to release Chad Townsend from the last year of his lucrative contract at the Cowboys in 2024 (reportedly $700-$800K).

My reasoning:

- Sheens/Payten have dealt with player transfers in recent times (Luciano) & you would think have a strong mutual respect from the '05 premiership days.
- We could take on his 2024 contract & extend another year making it attractive for Chad (at the backend of his career).
- Cowboys have a future spine in Chester - Dearden - Drinkwater - Robson.
- Chad will be 33 next season but still delivering in key stat areas this season. He is from Sydney originally.
- For leadership & experience for 2 seasons, would be as good as any:

Thoughts???

Reading that article I see Payten wanted a “cool head” half, I was just wondering if we put Luke’s head in a cryogenic state if he would improve?

Nothing is going to change till we land two elite players for the spine. How and who we land is the million dollar question. We need class with a capital C. We have the players for the elite to play around, but this club is going nowhere till that happens

Problem is we’re not going to land elite players until we make the 8.

Think we need consistent players in the spine with elite forwards and much better backs than we have. Why I think it’s time sit Douiehi down and tell him he is our right centre as we’d then have much of the team sorted except 1,6 & 7. Hopefully a Sezer/Townsend esque halves pairing could get us to 6 - 8. From there look for bring through talented juniors and buy elite spine.

Your should always invest in all grades! Don't rely on one set of youngsters, have a conveyor belt.
That's what clubs like the Panthers, Sharks, Raiders have
Yep, disgrace considering how poorly our first grade side is going that they’ve ignored flegg. And tbh - they’ve not done a whole lot at matts or ball level, mostly just got lucky a good crop has come through wests at the same time. They’re also not that good - doubt we will have a single side in Matt’s or ball finish top four.

We had Balmain with brooks and Moses win Matt’s and ball b2b and that didn’t deliver us a good first grade side. Current lot ain’t going to do any better than them.
