I’d pay hunt a mil a year for 2 seasons. Our salary cap is reportedly much more balanced than dragons. We can afford him. We need experience and direction desperately
To me it’s not dragging them here if you sell the dream and they decide to come. You need to target the best players even if it’s low odds. I don’t seem the point in only targeting average players because you’d be just “dragging” them here too.
I would have personally kept Hastings for a season or two for depth at the very least but he was reportedly offered no7 at 900k a season. That’s how poor the halfback market is.

Brooks has said he is going. I don't see centres as a problem at all. To'a is a gun. Naden should be able to player there. Maybe Tupou could do the job there as well and Staines onto the wing.
I thought Seyfarth was good last night. He was ball playing and making tackles.
That was Blore's best game. We should definitely keep him. I'd have no problems bringing Reilly in though. It's worth a shot.

Olam would require a very high end bid as well to pry away from the Storm.
Give yourself an uppercut you imbecile.
No other team in the NRL would even think twice at paying 700k per season for an average toiler such as Bateman.
He contributes nothing to our attack and his tackles would not knock the top off a custard tart.

I see a theme. I’m over coming last and losing more than we win & need to stop looking at 30+ multi NRL game players in their mid to
late 20’s like they have potential to one day click to being NRL consistent level players.
They have it or don’t especially if they’re regularly playing week to week footy.
Naden is a Wakeham but with more speed.
To’a had a burst of form then went off the boil with basics the last 2 weeks. Jury is out on him.
We need at least 1 center.
Seyfarth is bog average as an emergency squad depth player sure but as a top 19 player - no.
Blore has had what maybe 2 good games in 3yrs, injury aside do think as a squad player he adds value if his body can hold up but time is running out. He still made silly offloads on his half break undoing his good work but some are happy with that 1 game to go lets keep him. Again we are focusing on mediocre inconsistency type players which isn’t good enough if we want to play finals year in year out.
Bateman is a star and worth every cent IMO.
It not his fault we are missing our starting 6,7,9 and have a rookie at fullback. His only problem is he seems to be overplaying his role but cannot fault him for this when your spine is non-existent.
When we had Brooks and Api playing a few weeks ago he was excellent as he could choose his moments.
We only need a 6 & 7 and we are a top 8 team with the forward pack we have so fingers crossed we fix this ASAP.
I agree with most of what you say MT, but we have a massive issue in our back row.
I don’t need to look at stats to know we have made the least amount of line breaks out of any NRL team in the back row, add to that we have yet to find a 13 that does anything to assist our halves with some simple ball playing.
Papali’i has been slowly building and was by far our best player last night. I agree Blore hasn’t done much until last night, but he’s a big body with decent speed and toughness, he’s still very young for an NRL forward and surely he has much more upside than an ageing slowing Bateman.
You keep saying Seyfarth is not up to it and I agree I don’t think he’s done enough to be a starting player, but he comes off the bench makes plenty of tackles and very rarely misses one. Tell me what Bateman does any better than him ? Not forgetting you cannot have any NRL side such as Wests Tigers with no local juniors that bring a bit of heart & soul into the team, Seyfarth is one of the only few local juniors in our current top 17 and would be on a minimum wage which allows us to potentially spend more to try and sign players in the positions we desperately need.
Bateman on 700k offers nothing other than a bit of fire when the opposition rubs him the wrong way. I’d much prefer he runs the ball and tackle with a bit of purpose other than running like he’s wearing gum boots and make 40 arm grabbing tackles which are often 3rd man in. He’s also good for a dumb turn over when we are in good field position every week.

We really are one quality centre/winger short though. To'a is MOSTLY good. Naden has good moments. Talau has good moments. Kepeoua has good moments. Not seen what Feledy or Reilly offer in 1st grade yet.
But none of them are straight out- "oh, he's good". They all have moments where we contemplate being better. Now, Tupou COULD move to centre & bring in a winger- that's an option. But I suspect it's just as easy to get a good centre. If guys like Naden, Talau, Kepeoua etc are the guys you bring IN to the team when injury hits, or they play their way in with good form- great. That's depth.
Having a lock/second row addition wouldn't hurt either. Turns our forward pack into an elite group if a Tyson Frizzel was added.
As someone added earlier- an OK halves combination can work with a great forward pack & strike players out wide- Townsend/Dearden are a prime example.

You would hope even Sheens is not dumb enough to sign him although he has proven many times in the past if something appeals to him he will chase it and persevere with it no matter how often and badly it fails.
All these people saying "Hunt won't come to the Tigers", how do we know if we don't try? Gotta have a go and he is the best halfback who might be available. The worst thing that can happen is he says no.

I will admit- I thought he might fit at #13. I don't think he's a #13. Play him wider where he is your defensive cover for the 6/7 as well as the centre. Let him inject himself around the ruck when he thinks he can make an impact.
But most importantly- get your centre, fullback or half to offer him options with the ball- he can produce a pass nicely- but we just don't have enough decent support runners.

A player such as Tyran Wishart is one that would add great value to our team.

Agree re the backrow effectivness but that comes down to attacking structures, lack of centers and our halves have no idea how to setup. We have zero depth allowing players to offer effective line runners, decoys and options. We are badly coached atm.
Re Bateman you’re hard on him. He isn’t a lock and is trying to do too much I feel at the moment. He is giving us 80mins, making 40+ tackles, 100+ mtrs, he has leg speed, is often the 1st forward back onside and is just tireless every game with minimal errors (misses) whilst being asked to ball play. All this without even having a NRL pre season under his belt & joining late. I was very critical of getting him & not convinced of his fit for us but to compare Seyfarth with him is laughable they aren’t even close to the same league at the moment NRL level wise.
I like Seyfarth as a depth player, but he hardly dents the line. Bateman has triple the post contact metres (game average) of Seyfarth this year, that would tell me his go-forward is much better than Seyfarth's. Add to that, Bateman is a leader, Seyfarth is not.
If he was offered to every other NRL club at 700k per season they would laugh in our face.
Both Blore and Seyfarth won’t have a problem being snapped up by other NRL clubs for their 200k -250k value.
