Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Could be a player that actually /if/comes to us for under's.Is the tide turning or to soon yet?
Way too soon! We haven’t won any games yet. It’s all been talk and high expectations. Granted the recruitment this year has been great, but they still have to gel on the field where it counts. Been disappointed too many times to be too optimistic before a ball is kicked. We need to have a massive improvement in status as a club before any good players contemplate coming here for unders.

That's a good outcome to a crap situation, especially if Bud goes too.

Needed those squad spots more than salary cap space.

Upgrade Galvin and sign a defensively sound experienced second rower.
What are we paying now though for them to be elsewhere? $500 - $600k next 2 years? Big chunk of the cap.

farewell John.

providing Sullivan moves to Souths this week we'll be sitting at 28/30, providing Miller's termination comes into effect.

would assume Sione Fainu is reinstated in the top 30 and we go on the hunt for backrower.

'A' backrower?
We were 2 Short last year and we've lost 2 since then....

We'd be looking for 3 of them if we had any brains....
Sione can take Tumeth or Matamuas' spot (They're not likely to do anything with it)
If we can pay half of Batemans wage to have him play against us, Surely we can pay these blokes out.

I'd prefer we chase another backrower too, but the club can't afford to upset the Fainus by bringing in someone else in on top of Sione again. naturally therefore the next available place in the 30 goes to him.

wouldn't surprise me if it's Saukuru that's on the block. copped a breach notice early in preseason and is still struggling for fitness. his dad's also left the club.

'Upsetting' the Fainus...
How would they be upset?

We've been paying 3 of them to only get any value at all from just 1.
One of them barely struck a match last year (or the year before)
and came back from holidays fat and slow...
They'd be doing very well to take issue with the club.
hey've all got a job, they're all getting paid.

Our listed back rowers are S. Fainu, Tumeth and Sukkar....
Parra were the closest team to us last year, and theirs are
Cartwright, Kelma, Guymer, Williams, Matterson, Lane and Doorey.....

To say we're a 'bit' short is an understatement.

We needed that spot mate. No one else was willing to take Bateman on even at a discounted price. Should tell you everything you need to know.

For what? For who? (Please don't tell me a reserve grade middle forward who's got brothers in the squad)
Everyone else has squads full of good Back Rowers - We have 1 now....

I'm not against it in principle.....
But the squad was short good backrowers, and we gave up 2 of our better ones.
I hope / assume there's a plan....

But Seyfarth and Sione better not be it.

I reckon with Bud's pending departure & Miller and Bateman gone, the club might leave it at that for the coming season.

That will allow Sione into top 30 + one spot to fill. Rest assured Richo won't rush to fill it as the club can wait until June 30 to fill its 30th spot.

Opportunity to be dangled for a T&T to fight for it or if a good right side backrower falls from the tree branches.

I also think they'll stick solid with Saukuru on minimum wage and give him every chance to progress either as a left wing or left centre. He has got s***loads of ability, just needs to address his fitness & application.

I think they'll move quick on a backrower to be honest. we're one injury away from calling up Porter or Sukkar.

by my calculations we've also got some cash to splash, approx $650k once you account for Sione's retention and a Galvin upgrade, but may opt to do some frontloading as well. even still, we don't have to penny pinch. we can grab someone half decent for $300-500k.

I'm fine with Solo staying, I'm just looking at it objectively. we've tried to get rid of Tumeth for years, but it just doesn't look like it's gonna happen. there's a clause in his contract that makes paying him out quite difficult.

Sione knows if something falls out the branch that
he'll have to wait.. I don't think he's guaranteed to
be the next cab off the rank especially with glaring
deficiencies on the right edge at 2nd row & centre.
That probably goes both ways 4 him too though
when it comes to wanting 2 sign elsewhere but he
won't if he's not guaranteed a bench spot, it's not
worth it. Hopefully he keeps his buckle tightened and
bides his time until there is an opening because
so much can happen in the off season. Hopefully
we pay out some contracts after Xmas break also.
