Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He wasn’t happy with his poor short kick that killed our momentum late in the game.
Jerome has put in several poor kicks throughout the season, but he can seemingly do no wrong, gets a get out of jail free card every time.
Jerome looks much more at ease when Doueihi is partnering him in the halves.
Latu’s time will come whether we have Douehi still playing with us or not, but at this point of time we are a better team with Doueihi at 7 and Latu at 14 and I don’t think that will change in 2026 should we retain Doueihi.
If Latu is to become a top class halve, I think 2027 will be the year when he finds his voice and becomes the leader we need him to be on that position.
As I keep saying, there is no reason why he can’t be our regular number 14 with the occasional game in the halves between now and then to help get him better prepared.
if we get him at the price that is set and he keeps playing as well as he has ,id give him an unexpected good will top up , We dent owe him ,but , effort rewarded , He ain;t put in yet to be worried if he goes

Look I’ve been very vocal on this as I cannot believe the lack of common sense in Richo or any of our fans thinking it’s a good idea to make a lowball offeri to Doueihi and it will be ok if he goes because of it.
If anyone doesn’t believe me, have a listen to Cooper Cronk’s recent comments and he’s supposedly been working with us recently, so I’d say he would have a fair idea on what we need,
For those who cannot find it, he said Latu Fainu still has a lot of growing to do in regards to being a 7 and leading a team around the park and thinks he is a good 18 months away from being at that required level.

Calm down, we just finally found the blueprint on how to get our team balance right and be able to comfortably outplay a team who has been sitting at the top of the table all season long and now half our fan base along with Richo are happy to let the most important player on this blueprint walk due to the pittance of an offer we have made.
Honestly we must enjoy finishing outside the 8 every year.
We did not find any blue print.
The rain played into our hands. Dogs out work teams with a smaller more mobile pack. They could not utilise that mobility in the wet. Our team was up for the fight whilst Dogs showed up expecting the win. Add in a couple moments of pure luck and it stacked up to a good victory. Not the blueprint for future success.
I'm all for keeping Doueihi but I think you are reading far to much into what is thus far a one off win.

Summed it up there. The Dogs 13 errors often at crucial times won’t be repeated again this year.

Happy to if you send a link but not going to go searching for it this time of night.
But if the comments you are referring to is the Latu is still 18months off comment you mentioned in a previous post, i'd say no shit. You don't need to be Cooper Cronk to know that.
You will note I'm not against keeping Doueihi by any means. I'd even agree that right at this moment he is a better half option than Latu.
But I certainly don't think we suddenly found a repeatable game plan for consistently winning matches by simply playing Doueihi at 7.

If Cronk is right in saying Latu is 18 months away from potentially being a dominant starting 7, does that not mean we desperately need Doueihi for the next 18 months at the very least ?
During this time Latu could become so effective as a 13 that he ends up staying there full time.

I agree they made a lot of errors.
The funny thing is that you’ll see good teams winning because the other teams make more errors all the time and it’s attributed to them forcing those errors.
Not when we win though.

its not hard , pin them in the corners, and why the game does not have many consistent tactical kickers across the park ,has got me stuffed. It should be part of training , Part of a players worth , yet it gets neglected

Your comments come back to bite you time and again. You said yourself that wet weather football requires different players. How do you know he will perform to the same standard in dry weather? How do you explain the poor performance earlier in the year at 7?

I know you use this as a place to dump whatever thought comes into your mind at that moment, but you need to remember the things you say and what has come before. Your world view is not coherent.

I don't mind offering him a reasonable contract. He plays many positions and he is valuable to us. I'm just not certain about him starting at 7 each game until I see more of him against multiple opposition.

do you sleep

You know what's funny, for the last roughly 18 months when Galvin debuted non stop every opportunity gus would not stop talking on TV or podcasts about Galvin the best junior ever, his going to do this, that and whatever, but now gus has him at the dogs gus won't say a word, on 100 % footy chamas asked the question about a injury, didn't look like gus was going to answer, Emma asked did he get injured during the game, gus said, well he didn't get injured carrying his bag to the game. What a rude, smart ass prick
Are you only realising that now?

Could have been carrying his ego.

Latu is 18 months away, assuming the next 18 months he is playing in the halves and learning his craft. We can't play him as a lock or bench utility for the next 18 months and expect him to be then ready to step into the halves after that.
Ideally we'd be a strong enough side he would be learning his trade in Reggie's. This unfortunately is not the case and even under developed Latu is in our best 17. So for the good of Latu, and the team long term, Latu should be starting next year in the halves.
Of course this is simply all just my opinion and it does not mean Doueihi does not have a place in the side.

A few other things that I think are irrelevant to the discussion but people keep bringing up with regards to keeping Doueihi or his worth
Local junior. Don't care if he has already played elsewhere. Local junior and one club player I might have some sentiment.
Leader: isn't and never has been in my opinion. Too many floors in attitude areas of his game to consider him a leader.
Loves the club. Don't buy it. Has left previously. Has repeatedly shopped himself around. Has previously shown attitude that is far from club first.
Other players values. Do I agree that he offers more value than many other players reportedly on more money, sure. But those players being over paid is not a reason to pay Doueihi more than his worth. If anything it might be the reason we simply can not afford to pay him his worth.
