Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yeah I see what your saying with May. If he could work on his ball playing, as I feel its very slow and predictable, he could be a very good 80 minute lock. He would need a huge off season learning how to play straight and pass both ways though.

On Twal, it is hugely underestimated the role he took on this year being the leader in line speed. His line speed was consistently much faster than any player we have had for years and should be an example for others to get to. IMO Twal had a very solid and consistent year and played an important role within our pack. He improved his game in many ways, more leg speed, footwork, and offloaded more. Defensively his line speed was very important like I said. I just dont know why many dont like him. People get obsessed with the islander impact of middles, but I actually like Twal off the bench. For me he adds a different impact in that role. He comes on and lifts line speed and uses his leg speed and quirky running through the middle. That combined with a genuine impact prop coming on with him and its a good mix.
He is the only one consistently hitting the ball up with speed....if he was 20kg heavier he would be an absolute weapon.

Thought a player couldn’t take a pay cut per year on an exiting contract unless they extended the years when they moved clubs?
They can't unless the NRL approves it. If it is someone like Trbojevic trying to take a pay cut to help the clubs salary cap they will not approve it. If it is someone looking to get change clubs they usually do.
The rule was basically put in place by the rlpa to protect players from getting pressure from clubs to help them out with the cap.

Do you mean toilet humour?
I don't know why but Jim Carry's slapstick style of humour just doesn't work for me; neither does Walsh either as a toilet or the plumber. I know there are lots of fans out there when it comes to Carrey.
Mind you I'm not above a bit of filth either - just not with a dunny and my mouth 🙂

I'd still look at Zyon Maiu'u as that impact middle.

Pick him up, he offers versatility between middle & the edge, runs hard & has that 'impact' in his style- he's not a plodder, he's more a Royce Hunt type.

Thing is- you play him in KOE. If it doesn't work out- you don't lose much. But if he starts to crank it up in the KOE, then Royce's number starts to get looked at.

Given the Dogs are moving him on for whatever reason- I doubt anyone is paying full freight to take him. Cheap low risk addition with potential to be a massive upgrade. If he's your #30, you're doing ok.

Additionally- Maiu'u signed a 2 year deal with the Bulldogs, so unless you are extending the deal, it's a 1 year 'prove it' contract for a 22 year old athlete with well acknowledged ability.

As many have said- there's not a 'lot' available. Here's one. And he isn't stopping the club from spending big elsewhere.

i liked this Maiu'u guy when he was brought up a month ago, seem's like a potential cheapie looking for a home
We have on paper a very young squad, do we keep stacking the side with potential ,no doubt he would fit in and excell . Or keep our powder dry for 2 more hard heads (prop n versatile back} to show the kids the way

I've been thinking a bit about this too, will be very interesting.

I think we've seen the club this season under Richo a bit more patient with progressing our young talent through the grades & playing them in the right grade until they are ready to progress + until there is a spot to progress to. And how important it is to have some senior depth in NSW Cup.

Personally I think we'll see Tavana, Lanyon, Mataale, Liles & Matai retained for NSW Cup (out of those turning 22 next year) and a good chance Max Taotua is given every chance to lock down the right centre spot in Cup over the pre-season given he's physically ready (even though he can still play Flegg).

Hopefully Jaxson Rahme, Vaka Aho & Izaac Tui'tupou are 3 retained on Cup deals (maybe Tuitupou on higher) to add experienced depth too.

Then the likes of Javon Andrews, Haywood, Godinet, Taupau-Moors start the season in Flegg and then progress to Cup fulltime halfway through the season. Give them a chance to dominate in Flegg and earn the promotion.
Depending on what grade players end up playing most of their footy, that Flegg side could be absolutely brilliant to watch!

Halves is the most intriguing position for me with both Matai and Liles moving up.
The club seems to be giving Pritchard a bit of a run there, so he may figure for some of the season. Maybe Benson as a 6....I thought he was good for Balmain in SG this year. Tannous was the obvious option at 7, but the rumour on here was that he is gone next year. If that's the case, it wouldn't surprise me if we do go externally and get another recruit who is more of a game managing 7 for this grade. Maybe the club already has someone in mind hence Tannous moving on.

Personally I think Andrews will go straight into the Cup side but maybe he does do a stint in Flegg first.

4 those in the know has Matai progressed since we brought /swapped him over . It seems not

By the Rivers of Babylon …there we sat down ..

Yeah we wept … when we remembered Zyon..,

I’m hoping for more … someone more established ..although he might become something…

I think Richo needs to ride that hot hand
Great song.
Not sure if the rugby league player will cut the mustard.
He used to run the ball off the back fence, but that kamikaze style of play already seems to have fizzled.
