Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

This squad could have played finals this year.
I agree Tuck, if it wasn't for all the close ones we dropped, we would have gone close.
The piss week bench some weeks and so many young blokes in the side at times really hurt us.

The young fellas and we have a few, you drum into them at training what needs to be done but it doesn't always transition to game day, hard to know the cause be it deer in the headlight stuff or young brains farting through fatigue or lack of concentration.

That's why I'm being patient with the coaching.

The comparison is laughable. Of all coaches to choose from, he chose the one gunning for 5 consecutive premierships.
Yeah it’s crazy.
Bellamy is close to his top boys as well….but there is separation there. There is respect.
Look how Cam Smith, Billy and Cooper address him in interviews. They aren’t chest bumping and carrying on.

Munster doesn’t carry on with bellyache? or that just doesn’t fit whatever you’re on about.

Your point was- players can be too close to coaches.

Cleary & Flannagan are pretty decent examples to show it does happen.

Works so far for Cleary. Could be argued Flanno's son is getting an unfair leg up.

Cleary is a good example though. Tyrone May was dating Cleary's daughter, wasn't he? Still sacked him when he had to.

If Benji gets confronted with a situation, and his buddy-buddy relationship gets in the way- fair enough. But if he makes the tough call?

Thing is- it hasn't happened. So bagging him for being 'too close' is just speculation.
You’re convoluting my point. The fact that the two coaches you named coach their sons is irrelevant. Pretty common occurrence throughout the years. What I’m talking about is the club nurturing a potential relationship between the coach and players that could end in disaster. Benji is already on record stating that the game isn’t the be all, end all. Also the fact he runs around in training drills doesn’t help either in giving off the perception that he thinks he’s one of the boys. It might be all well and good atm, but you will be in a panic the moment he looks like being axed. Maybe then you’ll realise there needs to be some barrier between coach and player, cos it’s non existent at this club.

It was a weird comp this year.
Fans keep referring to how competitive we were. That’s all well and good but you have to convert those efforts to wins. We have enough top line and experienced players in the squad to have done better.

No shit. We are debating WHY they didn’t.
Have you got someone there to read these posts to you?
It's an unprovable assertion that the team could have participated in the finals. As far as I'm aware, none of us can answer why they didn't, other than they didn't win enough games. The variables contributing to that are myriad.

He may give him a sly ribbing occasionally, but they aren’t best buds.
Totally different.
Again though, the point is being completely missed.
Belly and Munster have been through a hell of a lot together. They’ve achieved a lot.
It is not comparable at all.

Must admit I was feeling satisfied until we lost those two against the cows and tits, it left me feeling annoyed, but I never thought we had the squad to get to the finals.

For mine next season is the most important one for a long time, we have to pick up more momentum, if we don't, we could be about to drown in shit creek.

i’ve never heard any of our boys say benji is their ‘best bud’ so you are just assuming. ricky is close to his senior players is that comparable enough for you? you’re speculating rubbish & it’s not even relevant

It’s called professionalism. The Storm have it in spades, while our guys are still running around going yo-yo bro, how’s it go, yes sir bs. Did anyone see the doco on Bellamy and the Storm system that was on channel 9 after the game last night. Insightful stuff into how a successful club is run.

Why will next years squad which really hasn’t been improved much be a better chance at finals?
We missed the 8 by 4 wins. Cows and Titans you mentioned should both have been wins. Newcastle round 1 should have as well. Only needed 1 more from the rest of those close losses.
This was a year where all the top sides struggled at times. Most weekends all teams had a good chance- which hasn’t seemed the case for a while. The two most dominant sides this year for large portions of the comp were found wanting when the real footy begun. In years gone by the dominant sides weren’t so easily beaten.
Accountability and preparation are our weaknesses from the outside looking in.

This is where the coaching with another off season has to prove they are making a difference, the tyre needs to hit the road.

My expectation is we should be much closer to making the finals, I didn't say we would.

As for the squad KPP is a solid defender and should help our woefull at times right edge defense and we might be surprised with Geyer and Roberts, plus whoever jumps out of the ground from our junior ranks.

Ok mate do something about it. Thanks.

We will know when we’re moving forward, when our bench come on and make a difference. They need to be at the same level as our starters.
I really don’t see much improvement in the side we had which won last years spoon.
