Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Crown Sports posted Josh Schuster on their Tiktok saying watch for his comeback 2026

If he can find his feet again, he would really fix our problem at Lock

He would be minimum wage, likely to fit into our culture

Give him 2 years, an extra year in our favour and see how he fairs?
As always comes down to contract value and roster spots. If it's min wage and we still have multiple spots left, I'd be keen. If it was the last spot, I would not.
Id much rather have a guy that IF motivated can not just perform at first grade level but be one of our better players (and completely understand it is a very big if), compared to a guy who isn't really up to first grade level on his best day but may be able to do a job if desperate.
Probably unlikely to work out but we have a few things in our favour including some of his childhood mates at the club.

If Manly didn't see the value in him and Bennett didn't see the value in him why would it change at the Tigers. 3 years after his last 1st grade game and a lifetime after his last decent match.

So ?

The forum can please themselves
Because the forum will just go on and on about giving a 5 year contract to a potentially" good player" ( mind you not in the top 5 or 6 fullbacks in the comp) who didn't live up to the hype and now he's around for another 4 years etc etc. It'll just be monotonous. He's not worth 3 years!

See my previous response 😂

This whole 5 year thing seems based on what a noted forum speculator says “someone said” ( ie he read on Facebook/X)

Can you imagine an Isaac Moses client signing a contract for 750k when he has a current option for 2027 at 800k or 900k ?
It all sounds great in theory, but an Isaac Moses client lowering his value for a longer contract with Wests Tigers ?
I’d like to see that.

Noddy Kimmorley to coach Manly KOE ...the mole
And we ended up with some unknown Englishman who could not reach the Grand Final in the Sourhs A Grade competition?
You could write a book on how Wests Tigers do business.
Funnily enough I know one of the coaches who did make the Grand Final, maybe we should have signed him instead.

It’s forum speculation …. Not worth much if anything

On a part time basis as well....i wonder if Noddys part time

Not sure Bennett or Manly didn't see the value in him. They both offered him contracts at the start of last year. It was Schuster who chose to walk away from that contract mid last year.

Why would it change here? Well, it probably won't so I'll change that to why might it change here?

Intrinsic motivation. He has taken time away and he has now decided that he wants to return the game. I don't know what the mental health concerns are/were but he has decided he is putting that behind him and looking to return to the sport. For his own reasons, not for others.
We've seen plenty of others walk away and successfully return to the game with a new mindset. Harris-Tevita just recently. Jake Clifford and Jamie Lyon in the past. Closer to home Moses Suli (never actually left but looked likely to be lost to the game at one point).

He will be around his mates. Not just team mates but childhood friends in the Fainus, a couple of which he has been playing alongside his whole life.

His issues are documented. This shouldn't be a case of not knowing what is wrong with Schuster. He knows his concerns, the club will know his concerns before offering a contract. A management plan should be in place alongside any contract offer.

No external expectations. A min wager, likely slated for ressies isn't carrying the public pressure of expectations compared to the 800K salary he was once on.

Finally all of the above combined should mean he now has a better support system around him both in and away from the club.

Will it be enough? Who knows. The odds are probably against him. But I think I'd rather punt on him than a guy who looks likely to not be good enough anyways, who realistically are faced with equally poor odds for differing reasons.
