Yes the club should wait to resign players they want to keep until they are on the open market and attracting offers elsewhere. Be a much smarter way to do business.
Extending a 29 year old old who has two years left on his contact isn’t smart business either

He would of hit the open market in November this year, so a decision would have to be made 1 way or the other. A prop contracted until he is 33 and with his fitness is no issue at all.
It’s possible his extended contract years could be on slightly less money which would make him a very valuable squad player with his years of loyalty and experience.
Assuming we use Bird’s contract money towards re-signing Jahream.
Would we like to see Jahream given a 2 year contract extension for 2027 and 2028 on what will possibly be 1 million per season, or would we prefer to extend him for 4 years up until the end of the 2030 season on 1 million per season ?
My strong preference would be a 2 year extension until the end of the 2028 season as we still need to see him show he is a genuine 1 million per season player and if he shows that throughout 2026 we can always extend him again.

Half this team is all about Benji's Allies, Twal is 2 head knocks away from retirement
I'm not even sure if Twal hit the open market whether anyone would be interested in him. So if he does get an extension imo it would be like winning the lottery for him.
He played 23/24 games last year.

It seems to be the strategy across the league right now. Extending reliable squad players on long-term team friendly deals before they get offered overs to go to Perth or PNG.
The reality is that we probably won't be able to make many external signings (of note) as Perth and PNG are always going to be able to offer more and in the case where the player wants to play for a premiership and take unders, they will opt for teams like Storm, Penrith and Roosters before us.
Its going to be a very interesting time for teams in the middle when trying to sign external players...

I think our depth is fair & juniors promising. KPP & Bunty is what we needed right now.
Hopefully given some of the recent deals we have $$$ in the bank when we need to target someone.
