Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

With footy player salaries the way they are, your top guys are earning 700k to 1.2 million.

If you can imagine the every dollar over 190k is being taxed at 45% plus Medicare levy surcharge, the guy on 1.2 million is saving 450k a year just in his top income bracket.

Tbh, throws a salary cap out the window if you start doing that, but if not, there is really no incentive to play in PNG unless you are already from there.
Yeah wait till 2038 when the tax free incentive ends...theyll be a qld cup level side

🙁

The mines are the biggest leechers and dodgers.

People don't realise how many factories they closed. I saw it in 2008, each day we worked in a CRM field. factories were closing, mines were opening.
The mines employ next to no one and leave a great big environmental disaster behind when they go bankrupt. But you don't mind paying for them do you?

Adds on 2GB, well spent. They buy their ears well.

Did you ever look into the Australian government involvement in West Papua and Indonesia

More just the pressure from former players on their children.

I have no doubt Sirro pushed his kids here a bit, then pushed them away.
I suspect Mavrik's dad drove him to Perth to get a different contract.

Here we see the Titans go all out, and get lucky that Marcus wasn't around to explain to his kid (and dare I say mr Campbell who is never getting a better contract offer) why they should take the offer.

Main point: it's damn hard to sign to a struggling club like ours when the former players know what teams like Melbourne can do.

side point: We have to win the families around players.
used to see curtis on the golf course, main reason he left was Jason Taylor.

It’ll become our super league, send players there on 1 or 2 year prove its
Nooo

PNG will be PNG.

Seriously people will go NZ, UK anywhere else.
They won't try there and if they do they will go home.

Why?

Hospital is a place you go to die.
The Dentist does not wash his hands. Heck most people don't, see above.
The nurse, on being told to give 10mg to see how effective the drug is... Gives 50mg because she "felt like it", you argue with her she attacks you.

Ofcourse it's the NRL, some people will take whatever shot they can get. But once people start breaking bones, running against 7ft Highlanders made of muscle and getting seriously injured they will go back home. Wounds just don't heal, it's tropical. ....

Now if the NRL sets up a proper hospital, well things may be different.
Till then, no it won't be a new NRL blood training ground.

For what its worth, a mate of mine, Cowboys supporter with corporate connections, said Payton has next week against the Titans or he's gone.
It's only week 2 and he's already lost the dressing room. That Doueihi try has wooden spoon vibes about it. It was soft like some of our forwards in the wooden spoon years, putting in minimal effort Steflopo Utoikaflopu style.

yes, but I think the worst example is East Timor.

Ofcourse similar in West Papua now and it's over Mining. But us stealing Oil off one of the poorest countries on earth and lying about it is the worst.

Mate what ? Mavrik was always signing with Perth. As soon as it was a 1 year deal , it was obvious AF. The club would have known … but having him allows for Roberts and Sukkar to develop an extra year , and the younger boys like the Tautua bros , Broaderlow , Saukuru , younger in Godinet another year of development . There’s no conspiracy ….
As for the Sironen brothers … they weren’t that good , and at the time wanted to play 6, so loved for opportunities . Siro was an employee of Balmain right up until his retirement …: why would he steer them away , outside of opportunity …. The club thought they were edge backrowers . And tbh they were right …. Huh ?
You don’t need to win families over Z you need to show them the truth , that thier child is valued , they will be given opportunities for growth an if good enough , an opportunity at an nrl career in an environment that will nurture them , and push them to excel .
It’s easy with a legacy like the storm …. And lately the panthers , maybe the roosters . But most other clubs are building that portfolio . I’d say the next best systems are the raiders and warriors , but they’re obviously geographically challenged . Everyone else is a prisoner of the moment and what’s in their pathways . I tell you who I wouldn’t send my kid to … th bulldogs .
Unless you are certain players .. then you will be mistreated . Look at the way they’ve brutally discarded guys like sexton , Xerri , and Mahoney , and yet to happen but will ,Burton . The lack of empathy , an IMO , exposure of a system , that is soulless . Is pretty much there now for all to see . And btw , they still haven’t developed a talent . All their players are buys from other clubs , even Preston and King , bought just before thier debuts from the roosters , and 50 games in with the Storm and titans . Even their winger , was with the knights and got cut , just before Covid .
Not 1 single junior . But I digress … we have a strong history of debuting talent , and getting them to nrl ready , often losing them when they’re about to peak .
For me I don’t agree with this idea, they’ll develop better somewhere else . Where really other clubs are simply just benefitting from using the tigers as a feeder club to get talent up to speed .
Like Stefano last year …/ hes gone backwards at the storm , at the very least stagnated. Still doing his 1 run a game where he knocks a number 9 or half flying , and everyone goes Oooooooo … then has 10 runs for 92m …. Bog average .
All of that is to say you’ve tied yourself in a mental knot , based on people like Galvin . Even Blore was let go . And wanted to stay originally . We are keeping the good ones . Even TDS … it’s extremely debatable why his career will be . I think you need to relax

Nah I don’t think so . I think elite players will go there , when they are off thier current club and in between clubs / unsure as to what’s next . It won’t be your Luai types , who are driven and seek certain challenges .
It will be your Zac Lomax types , all about the cash , or your Maloney types, transient by nature looking to make bank and and make short influence .
I can’t see too many 10 year players there … even 5 years.

I wonder if there is interest in Xerri

Wouldn’t mind him

1. Bula
2. Maka
3. Xerri
4. May
5. Turuva
Xerri would be a great get. He's on 350k at the dogs, defends well and averages 140m a game

The problem is we signed Toa long term so I don't think we will go for him

The Tigers are never mentioned as being in on any player , although there is an obvious need at Center right now and you think Xerri might fit the bill

Teams like Parra and St George are mentioned as being in on literally every player that shakes loose

As a player yes. But I find it hard to cop him as a person, especially given his recent hissy fit. The Bulldogs gave him an opportunity after he was banned for several years for taking steroids, then he carries on like he’s too good to be dropped or play out of position. That doesn’t sound like the kind of character that helps build a club.

The club seems to have plenty of dramas too with their players … they are not shy about moving on guys early
