Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

You might have missed the bit where Te'o was recommended for the role to replace Hannay
- By Hannay.
Talked to Brisbane about it and Madge knocked it back.

If I had money to bet, The odds would be better for Te'o running Water in this years origin than not.
Something definately up.

Clearly there is a massive fight and the Broncos board appears to have backed Madge a little.

Madge failed here, I do wonder if it was due to his assistants. As you say Ben Teo is highly rated, Siebold seemed to be highly rated at Souths too...
It was only in the last year that we got Cayless and Gartiner, but they both seemed to be highly rated...

IMHO Chris Heighington is clearly making a difference.

As long as we keep the elite ones and at and fair price.
It's a team effort that needs to be managed as a whole. Make it enjoyable to come to work.
Can never keep an overpriced ego type on a reasonable pay packet. They tend to be toxic to the culture.
That's the real test.

IMHO the first time I have seen one of our juniors move to first grade in Ages and make me excited is 2026 with Makasini.

Bula kinda had the goods, Galvin was meh-some games. Makasini seems like a real top shelf talent and I am hoping we can hang onto him.

the players are grown men not 6 year olds being moved around different footy teams by their parents. If Moses has that much control over his players then his players are incredibly weak humans.
It’s pretty clear Moses vision is to get his young players an NRL start at a lowly club then move them on to a powerhouse club to grow their profile in a winning environment. Sucks for clubs like us but hard to argue that’s not a good rugby league career strategy given the examples he can point to. And he’s convincing young blokes not that long out of school, and probably their parents in some cases. Often times with life changing money involved for all concerned.

The players don’t have to listen to him, but the way I see it, he’s probably got a pretty convincing track record.

Well guess what buddy ….there are rumours Plan A is walking out the door…so they are going to need to do something in the meantime !

I’ve named two short term options … Tracey if Bula joins the Dogs…or Drinkwater preferably but that might take a 3 year deal you would assume
Buddy, you are the one suggesting we don’t sign Brimson because he might block a pathway player

It’s quite simple, make the team as strong as possible as soon as possible. If Bula leaves find the best possible option. Worst case activate the 27 option and make him stay 1 more year till there are more/better options available.

The signing of place holder type players is the reason we have been anchored to the bottom of the ladder for 10+ years, and we are still waiting for the messiah to emerge.

That’s how I see it. It’s easy and probably convenient for fans and even media to blame managers when these things happen. If it were my son being used as a pawn I’d be sacking his manager quick smart.

I suspect Moses is more than happy to get his hands dirty if his clients want him to, but the players pay the manager at the end of the day.

No Pal… you are definitely wrong about this …. I actually said initially I wanted to sign Brimson …but I backflipped when I saw the length of the committment (given his age of nearly 28) and the dollars ,,$850k per year …. It’s all back on p14648 if you are interested

Firstly … what name is available if they decide to let him go at the end of this year ?

Secondly …if the club takes the option…I have concerns about his play next season on 900k a year when he is already out the door in 2028 ( talking about a placeholder) … I would rather have Drinkwater if it was a straight up choice … I think that will make the team stronger in 2027 if those circumstances unfold …if you feel different then that’s called a difference of opinion… no one is wrong or right now about which will turn out to be the best hypothetical path ia year or two down the track

I actually feel that Logan Brooke’s is the more talented of the 2 .. Logan sounds like he loves playing footy, thinks about the game a lot and he is really quick, strong and loves taking on the line… he really reminds me of Cameron Munster at the same age,, strong fast and skilful

Ok …fine ..I’m not married to either of them to be honest ….just give me the best one

We need to review the Bula situation at about 8pm tomorrow night.
He might step up and help win is the game which would make him much more valuable to us moving forward.
Or he might have another game where he makes minimal impact and it just adds to the doubt about him being our long term saviour.
What a difference 24hrs can make.

I doubt the clubs offer is getting withdrawn after the game tomorrow ,.so how he plays is probably not changing anything other than how Joe Public might feel about it..

Who is we? You and I? Some other group?

There’s a strong sense of shared ownership.
“We.”
We need to improve. We need to be better. We weren’t good enough. We need to review.
Which is interesting.
Because the “we” doing the review - and the “we” observing the outcome - are not the same group.
But your language merges them.
So now - we’re all accountable?
For something only some people can influence?
It’s efficient.
Responsibility gets diluted. Expectations get managed.
And everyone feels involved.
Without necessarily being effective.

Also, what exactly does "help win us the game" mean? One match saving tackle, but 79 minutes of nothing? 79 minutes of brilliance, but misses the match saving tackle?

How does one game make him "more valuable going forward"? Or less valuable for that matter?

Is this just your subjective opinion you will apply? Do you have a tangible benchmark?

But mate, we hold the cards. In what world would we trade Tracey for bula? Are we the bulldogs little whipping boys? Make him see out 2027 and hunt for another fullback. It buys us another 12-18 months
So we pay him $900K and take up a spot to do exactly what he's done so far ??

Okay 900g is a lot of cap space to blow for a guy who will be heading out the door, but I guess you get another 12 months to develop or recruit. Of course if you can get someone for next year who will do the job for cheaper with similar ability, than that’s the road to go down. In these situations you need the experience and expertise of Richo pulling the strings

Well champion @supercoach, that won't be happening.
Whoever is our "Richo" now has to make this work.

I watched Seibold's press conference. He looks like a beaten dog waiting for Maxwell's silver hammer to come down on his head.
To be fair whoever's responsible for putting together a team with Brooks , Simpkin and Wakeham in it needs to be the first to go.
How is Wakeham not playing park football? It's a rugby league miracle that he's playing NRL.
