Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Opinions ….Bulldog Ritchie today’s paper …

“let’s be frank.St George Illawarra looked clueless, thanks largely to its senior players. Forward Jaydn Sua hasn’t aimed up and neither have Val Holmes or Damien Cook.

It’s the sides leaders - the players you turn to in a crisis- who are letting down the club. They are playing dumb football and need to have a good look in the mirror “

Now I’m not one to sing the praises of Bulldog Ritchie … but St George would be the last team I would be looking at for senior players ..
Bulldog is Flanno’s mate. He’s trying to shift blame away from the coach onto the players. The senior players that have let them down - Gutho, Val, Cook are the ones Flanno signed on big money.

Yeah poor choices. Self appointed kings never last, Queen Gutho is like a B grade actor in a good movie, ya put up with him bcoz the movie is a good watch. Val was looking forward one last pay but is pretty much cooked, and Damo, well it’s in his name but I reckon he’s overdone, They remind me of Packer, Mbye, and Easter Island head. Flanno’s best bet would be to put the house on the spoon.
I Love watching dragqueens go down.
Pardon the pun. 😎

He must not have watched the Dragons v Cowboys game as Luciano Leilua was outstanding, the best game from any edge back rower in the NRL this season and Jaydn Su’a was also very good running the ball hard, tackling with venom and doing all he could to lift his team.

Latu Fainu to lock story in this thread ...

He is good enough to be one of the very best 13’s in the NRL
His attacking game is already very good and his defence is rock solid, obviously he will just need to improve his fitness levels and stamina to do it for longer periods to allow himself increased game time.
Surely we still keep him ticking over at training and occasionally in games in the halves to keep that as a long term option ?
By around 2028 you would assume Douehi’s speed off the mark which makes him so effective could be reducing with age, where a fit and healthy Latu should be approaching the prime years of his career with his speed off the mark as good, if not better than ever.

Dragons lack strike power. Only player on that roster right now I'd have interest in, and only if the coaching staff thought they could salvage him from himself, is Tyrell Sloan.

How he isn't on the field for a team that can't score points is beyond me.

That's a weird one champion @The Chad.
Surely there's something more to this, I wonder what's going on.

Flanno is gone mate … don’t think it matters what Bulldog writes ..

I will say though that Flanno’s demise has come about very quickly ,,,I have had some admiration for his career previously ,…he seems bereft of ideas this year

I was talking to my father in law yesterday , and he was like “no one wants to sign there , they can’t get the cattle “. All I could do was shake my head . No one gave a single Shit , in fact everyone revelled in it when it was us . Now I’m supposed to get out the violins for flanno ? GTF out of here .! Not to mention they’re shit because thier coach keeps playing 33 yrs role has beens because it worked for him 10 years ago .
He didn’t train them hard enough . His team isn’t fit enough and strong enough to get over the advantage line , so any chance his creative players may have had is lost. They make metres … sure but they don’t create ruck speed .
He should literally just field his nsw cup team , play the kids and do the right thing by the club . Blood them through , and take the bullet . Because honestly he has more chance of sticking around doing that then he does fielding the 2016 nrl all stars .

I remember watching the Dragons flog Melbourne Storm when they were flying high a season or two back and it was Tyrell Sloan destroying the Storm as fullback.
For a team that lacks X-Factor and speed it is absolutely crazy to leave him out of their team.
Valentine Holmes is obviously a too class player, but is ageing and looks to be slowing down a little which limits his effectiveness.
Their starting back row in Hamish Stewart, Luciano Leilua and Jaydn Su’a is very goood and the Couchman twins are good young, hard working middle forwards.
Daniel Atkinson has proven he can be a good quality NRL halve, but it is very hard to function when there is not much x-factor within your spine.

Flanno's recruitment of dad's army was always going to bite, they looked OK in the 1st season but just knew in my gut it would prove to be their downfall, 2nd year and they look to be in a lot of trouble.

I think they're asking too much of Flanno to coach and do all the recruitment. Whatever he's selling to recruits hasn't worked and their best juniors have either left or are mostly forwards, who are never ready for regular grade when they start. The timeline for them to take over from the older heads doesn't match. Something also happened towards the end of last season as a team it seems and they've never gotten back on track.

Flanno doesn't strike me as someone who doesn’t want total control.
