Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I think most clubs are cooked if you strip 5 starters from their team, but what you say around the 2nd row is true. We are a bit light there, but only insofar as we don't have a game breaker sitting on the bench to slot in if Fainu or KPP go down. Seyfarth and Sukkar are there to defend - that's their job.

If we want someone more dynamic to sit on the bench, those backrowers don't come cheap - anyone you bring in means you lose depth elsewhere through cap balancing. I thought Ethan Roberts was going to be that guy...young player, not a lot of coin and good ball runner. Sadly he is injured. The other guys are Murray, Broederlow and Godinet that sit under Seyfarth and Sukkar. A lot of excitement around Broederlow and Godinet as they develop, but the questions when these complaints inevitably come up are....

if depth is an issue:
Which signings would remove that issue?
Are they available to sign?
Do we have the money/roster spots available?
Would they even want to come to play on the bench? We already have 2 locked in starters.

You can't have 30 first graders in your squad. You will always have developing players and thin depth in some areas - that's where the odd Patrick Herbert or Bunty Afoa help out for a year or 2 until the younger guys have had a chance to develop a bit. To me, we have Seyfarth, Sukkar and probably Sione Fainu if we are short, then Afoa moves into prop.

I think Hooker is a far bigger depth issue to be honest.
I get what you are saying, however the roster does need to be balanced and we need to get to a point where at least 80% of our 17 - 30 would get a starting spot at the bottom 5 clubs. Obviously you will lose some and they will need to be replaced so my point is you cant stop recruiting and making changes to your squad. We may have enough cover in the forwards however if Pasifika tonga is an upgrade and not on much more coin because he wants to be a shot for a bench spot and we can do that for him than you seriously consider it.

196cms and 117kgs as a 20 year old… extremely athletic and good on his feet too.

Serious talent, big yes to this kid.

Shocked how he isn’t getting picked (Dragon fans blowing up). Another middle to join the rotation and keep pole on his toes would be helpful. Especially someone with such a high ceiling who’s dying for a change of scenery.
Dragons have a crowded middle rotation, his pathway to consistent game time is blocked. They should move him on rather than stall his development even further, that’s not fair on him.

For us we need exactly that.. young, big, mobile with upside. He offers long-term development potential, punch through the middle, and a chance to grow into a high-minute prop. Low-risk, high-upside who could thrive with opportunity.
There may be the Benji Connection there 🇳🇿

Seyfarth… I’m not a huge fan ..but he is comparable to most other clubs 4th second rowers ..

The roster is more “settled “ out of necessity that they have spent a lot of the money already and there are a number of players to extend prior/during to the next offseason

I don't think Alex this year is worth the 400K he's on played 84 minutes so he is the highest payed player in the club per minute played

Very interesting when you think of the cap playing minutes vs contract value

KPP some have mentioned 550K-600K for 80 minutes played vs Alex 400K for an average of 17 minutes played a game

No absolute standouts but we don't need top tier with Terrell May, Fonua Pole & Sione Fainu with many years of footy left + Twal and then depth with Seyfarth & Bunty.

We can develop Taupau-Moors properly progressing through Flegg & Cup first and working on the areas to become an NRL bench prospect perhaps by 2028 (which is when Royce may have finished up).

Four lower grade players who are showing signs are ...

-Elijah Mataale (22), however has not been sighted since doing a T&T with the NRL squad pre-Xmas. Injury???
- Vaka Aho (23), a real slow burner, been in our pathways for years and has improved each season. Starting to really stand out for the Magpies in NSW Cup this season. No star but could develop into solid depth. I'd love to see what he can develop into with a full NRL pre-season.
-Lachlan Broederlow (22) - back playing on an edge but has looked good in the middle. Amazing how he has developed after a full pre-season in the fitness stakes.
-Archie Duncombe (20) - workhorse, leads by example, very good line speed & contact in defence, reminds me of Tyson Frizell in style and action.
Thanks, BWG.
Haven't been able to get to the lower grades this year.

I really dont want Seyfarth anywhere near an edge. He should only ever come on in the middle to perhaps help close out a game in defense.

Sheens was political too tho. He pushed out a club CEO with an ultimatum because he didn't want to operate under KPIs and hated any kind of transparency and accountability of results of the football department... after 4 really, really, annoying years post 2005 with him tinkering around with trick plays and putting player imaginable into our back row, except back rowers.

In came Stephen Humphries afterwards and the heavily back-ended contracts that were the first dominos in what unbalanced our salary cap for the next 8 years.

It didn't unbalanced the salary cap for 8 years his only long term contract was Lawrence for 5 and that was done in 2011 and it was a injury that made the contract not look good he had almost every club chasing him and was offered more elsewhere he stayed at the Tigers for less

Benji and Robbies contracts renewal under Potter and potter said no to Robbies big long contract and the board did not listen to him

Everyone likes to blame Sheenuis for the Cap and it was easy for the board to let the blame lay at Sheen's feet but it was not

What heavy backend contracts are you talking about? What players?

He should be playing over Guler, Lawrie and Kerr.

Loko ran for 250 metres, with a try, 17 tackles and 0 missed in a 50 point win last week and still can’t make the side.

This kid can be one of the best props in the game and has massive wraps on him. The way our culture is building, you put him in an environment like ours and he’ll thrive.

This really could be the last piece to what we’re building here. That’s how much faith I have in Loko, been watching him for a while now and still shocked he hasn’t got consistent games yet.

Benji go get him.

flanno prefers the Couchman boys who I do rate, however they look more like work horses than game breakers, this kid looks like he has front row x factor.
Yeah fair call, the Couchmans are reliable workhorse types and you need that in any pack. I just think there’s room for balance between those steady forwards plus one or two with a bit of strike. That’s where a guy like Loko feels different, bit more x-factor if he kicks on

Would be perfect to replace big Royce when his time is up!

I didn’t comment on his pay … I just think he is just as good as any teams 4th second rower

Flanno is full of it. Last week he gave some excuse for his team selections by saying that he hasn’t got anyone else underneath to play.

While he keeps selecting the same players that are 0-6 for the season, their reserve grade side is currently equal first and have a record of 4-1.

The young guns in reserves are performing and have put some big scores on sides. Along with Illias and Glover last year, Tonga is now the third person to come out and openly say that it doesn’t matter what you do or how good you play in reserves, Shane just isn’t going to pick you. Makes for easy pickings for other clubs to come poach some of those players.

Gotta feel for some of their players and their fans.

I'm not going to take the bait mate, but I wished when I was out night fishing yesterday that big wiley bream that was taunting me by picking up the bait and dropping it did.

Really pissed me off, going back after him tonight lol.
As opposed to baiting a pike and the prick wont let go. Terrible eating as well.

Bream are great.

Irrespective of the above, i got you and the other bloke.
