Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Maybe make the Trip a fair tackle, if a player gets to a position where the only option you have could possibly end as a hip drop, rather than take that risk ? Just trip them,

Rugby League has lived with the hipdrop for well over 100 years,
So too Shoulder & H/high, why did anything need to change. ??????????????
Spooked by legal proceedings in the US.

Sports like UFC don’t seem to care.

How is Metcalf a 900k player - that is wild.

Can't say I've paid too much attention to him, but if I recall correctly he had one fairly good season.

Only see this ending badly for the Dragons.
He is no where close to a 900k player, he’s injured every year, only played close to 40 games, had a good start last year and got injured, and in 2023 he was good for the last half of the season but in a much reduced role as Johnson took control. Going to end badly I think, much like some of our signings during the spoon times

Wel considering what we had to pay for Luai who imo hasnt played a game where he has shown his worth any where near 1.2 plus. Comes with being a bottom club.
Considering what?
Luai was 130 Gamer, Rep Footy and 4 Premierships.

Metcalf is only 18 months younger and hasn't played 50 Games.
Most (Good) Coaches wouldn't even say he's a real First Grader yet.

With a Millon dollar player you expected certain playing standards on the field.
Let's back up a bit.

We bought a million dollar #6 and played him at #7 to accomodate a 19 year old who is no longer at the club. That wasn't Luai's fault. But even though he was out of position, he helped change the culture and lift standards in the same season. As far as I am concerned, there was a return on the million dollar investment in 2025.

Fast forward to 2026 (with a full preseason at #6 under his belt) and Luai's form is far better than people give him credit for. Luai had 5 try assists and 1 try in his first two game. What else could you want?

Then he got injured. Came back against the Broncos, was OK and didnt miss any tackles. Had 5 tackle breaks and a try assist against the Raiders - pretty good if you ask me.

Then the team dropped off a cliff against the Sharks and Storm, so we cant bag him for that. In patches vs the Storm, I thought I saw glimpses of a red hot Luai.

As far as I am concerned, he's playing like a million dollar player.

Let's also add that luais value isn't just him, it's the value he creates in team around him. I have no doubt that he drove a lot of the pre season standards and brought the energy we needed.

Our early good start, along with the culture where the team wanted to stay, can be attributed in part to him

Metcalf to dragons. 3 year deal @ $900k/yr. He’s good but geez $900k
Metcalf on 900k, Drinkwater on 950k-1m, Keaon on 1.1mil, Gutho and Val on big money, Atkinson and Sami also on overs. They must be hoping that the young guns in the team are willing to take unders to stay at the club... Stewart, Egan, Counchmans and Halangahu could be easy pickings in a year or two.

Million dollar club. I would be tapping gutho, val, sulli and Luciano

Benji can bang on about standards all day, all of our many coaches have, but without guys like Luai & Api driving them amongst the group, it’s all hot air.

I get people expecting Luai to ice games more than he does, but he never really did that in his premiership years. I think the millions he gets are for his impact on a group and if it gets us back into the finals, he’s earned his keep.

Lawrie is on $600k this year, but even after their caps gonna be cooked. Couchman’s, halangahu, loko and buchanan all free to talk November 1. While you have Suli $600k (2027), Metcalf $900k , Keaon ~$1m, Homes $1m (2027), Gutho $800k (2027) and Drinky $950k.

Loko Pacifica Tonga & Halanghu are desperate to leave. The couchies are future origin players suprised the dragons haven’t locked them up yet.

Their whole cap is out of whack, they are paying overs on every single player, they could have like an extra 600k or more
