Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

JMK , is my sons best friend, he loves where he is and loves where he lives , my son has been in his ear about coming to the tigers , he just said it ain’t happening

I can well understand why because the cry of nepotism will always be on the lips of some supporters even when favouritism is nonexistent.JMK is a good honest footballer and has deserved his respect on the field and i am sure he wants to keep it that way.

coach adel not far off the money
but we do have some money to sign a good first grader, i would be expecting them to target another center and a hooker

wouldnt suprise me if we get a few resigning next week

been told attard may make a debut after the bye , and that starford is on the outer may find himself at another club next year
Does that mean Bula will be out for an extended period?

I’m not saying he’s not always injured. I’m saying the arm one that’s chronic was after the extension.

..we can go backwards and forwards about when he “was injured “ … he missed a bit of time in May after playing well beforehand ..and was never the same player again ..he certainly stopped putting his body on the line ..

The bigger issue is that his form has been terrible since May last year … he was extended in mid August when he was already under contract for 2026 ..in hindsight it’s been a terrible decision that really should have at least been delayed until this year …

toa signed an extension 15 august 2025

toa got injured round 24 2025 against manly 17 august 2025

injured after signing an extension
I had it in the back of my mind To'a had the wonky arm prior to his extension but haven't been able to find anything concrete to verify it (without going back and watching the match replays).

Just found this on Twitter from a punter on July 21 prior to the extension.Untitled.png

Medical retirements in the NRL are officially determined through a rigorous assessment of a player's injury history by independent medical experts, which the NRL then reviews to decide if the remaining value of the player's contract will be exempted from the club's salary cap. [1, 2]
The medical and administrative determination process follows several structured steps:

1. Independent Medical Evaluation
When a player sustains a career-threatening injury (such as chronic concussions, severe spinal issues, or debilitating joint damage), the process typically requires multiple consultations with independent specialists. For issues like severe concussions, players are typically evaluated by league-approved, independent neurologists and neuropsychologists. These experts review all historical medical records, surgical histories, and test results to reach a consensus on whether it is too dangerous for the player to continue their professional career. [1, 2, 3, 4]

2. Player’s Decision to Retire
Once independent medical professionals conclude and advise that a player is medically unfit to play, the player must officially decide to accept this advice and step away from the game. [1]

3. Submission to the NRL
If the player and the club want the remainder of the player's contract to be removed from their salary cap, they must formally apply to the NRL. The club must submit extensive medical documentation, specialist reports, and the player's complete injury history for review by the NRL’s Chief Medical Officer and salary cap auditors. [1, 2, 3]

4. NRL Review and Exemption Ruling
The NRL carefully assesses the circumstances—specifically ensuring that the injury is genuinely career-ending and not just a standard long-term injury. If the NRL formally approves the medical retirement: [1, 2]
  • The un-played portion of the player's contract is generally excluded from the club's salary cap.
  • The player is paid out their remaining entitlements as negotiated, but the funds no longer restrict the club's ability to recruit replacement players. [1, 2]
