Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Bougainville mine is still closed and Bougainville looking for independence next year?
Agree on the compound life. Some can take it some can't. I counted the days after 3 months to get out. [6 months].
But as I understand, half the time they would be in Australia which would make it a lot easier on their mentality, family and safety. With the tax incentives, I think I could manage the inconvenience for a while.
I’ll take your word for it about bouginville - i haven’t kept up to date on it.

But the point remains that you could be a social worker or an electrician and go to these areas on more coin.

Only a fraction of the people that go stay, even with the lure of more money, better compounds and more time flying back and forth. Turnovers rates are high

This tax free money will come back and bite the NRL on the arse , the other teams will not be happy in years to come
I’m not so sure, I don’t think Cadia mine in orange are stressing about what Newcrest are paying there guys moresby.

Clubs will know that they won’t compete on dollars but you can say, live right on the beach at the GC, be relatively unknown in Melbourne. Live amoungst the pollies in Canberra (lol) whatever it is that sells their team, they will know what sells.

If he could just play A grade footy somewhere it would be good for him but he has to be mental ready for the on field Sh!t the other clubs will give him
There’s plenty of work he’ll need to do - he’s on parole, he’s not in a normal situation.
I agree footy would be good for him, to some level. To be with his friends and family at work, even better
- but professional sport,
Please!

I don’t get what people aren’t getting, he’s not played a game for 6 years - while living in a box, without all the fuel a professional athlete has to keep himself where he needs to be.
Heard a podcaster say, he’ll probably need an off-season to get ready…
Blokes that played last year sometimes need more than an off-season to be ready, blokes coming back from injury often take 12 months to find form - the stretch between that and an inmate is a million miles.
I’m not saying he can’t do it, I’m not saying he can - having knowledge of transitional release for long termers - I’m saying he won’t (or shouldn’t) the stuff they’re mandated to do for their personal growth / acclimatising back into society is almost a part time job on its own. Employment also plays a part in that, but professional sport
- expecting a reforming long term prisoner to juggle that as well is nuts!!

He did kinda try to kill someone…
He didn’t punch them in the mouth after a drunken night out
- he stabbed them at church!!

There’s some unpacking to do!!

The Wests Tigers are excited to confirm that Heamasi Makasini has extended his contract through until the end of the 2029 NRL season.

The Campbelltown City Kangaroos junior is currently signed through until the end of 2027, with this extension keeping Makasini at Concord for a further two seasons.

A product of the Wests Tigers Pathways, the 2024 Harold Matthews Cup Player of the Year has progressed through Harold Matthews, SG Ball Cup, Jersey Flegg, NSW Cup and into the NRL.

The 18-year-old has made a strong start to his career in the top grade, scoring on debut in Round 27, 2025 against the Gold Coast Titans, before some standout performances in the 2026 Witzer Pre-season Challenge.

The outside back took that form into the early part of the 2026 NRL season, making 15 tackle breaks and averaging 148 metres in six appearances.

The announcement comes ahead of Makasini’s return to the NRL on Saturday against the Bulldogs, after missing recent rounds due to bone bruising in his foot.

Makasini said he’s excited to extend his stay with the Club.

“I love playing here and I’m loving being a part of what we’re building. It’s where I’ve played all my junior footy and I want to be a part of bringing the Club success,” Makasini said.

“I’m grateful to Benji, the boys and the whole Tigers family for everything they’ve done for me so far, and I’m so happy to be staying here for another two seasons.

“I’m glad to be back playing this weekend and can’t wait to get out there with the boys in front of our home fans.”

Wests Tigers NRL Head Coach, Benji Marshall said it was exciting to have Makasini at the Club until 2029.

“Heamasi is a special talent who we feel is a big part of our future, and we’re looking forward to seeing him develop here,” Marshall said.

I’ve been impressed with what he’s done for us to start the year, making the step up to the NRL week-to-week. He's done it playing at centre – one of the hardest positions to defend on the field – and showed his quality at just 18-years-old.

“He’s a player that’s come right through our system, and I know how much he loves representing the Wests Tigers.

“We’re so happy to have Heamasi and his family with us until 2029.”

Great work by the club , we have just about secured a nice future !just add big Sam F and Latu , then go shopping for a centre , and get a new broom out for the reserves plus Toa .
We will remove Kit , Luke , Maverick and probably another 2 or 3 we just need to move Toa on , Herbert can be our reserve grade centre , we should be looking to promote a few and bring in min 4 new heads accross firsts and reserve grade ,

I know Heamasi is playing centre on the weekend. If Toa's form and Herbert's suspension didn't happen, you'd imagine Makasini would have been developed on the wing first then moved to the centres. Hopefully he goes well at centre and can stay there as have more wing options than centres
