Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

your entitled to your opinion mate … although it’s one thing to say you think people are overating Averillo .. another to say he isn’t better than a guy that has been playing NSW Cup for months and getting overlooked for Patrick Herbert …
Yeah fair comment.

I'll say it this way but, I definitely don't think he is more talented than Toa (at centre). If Toa has the willingness to apply himself to perform to that talent or if his shoulder is actually cooked are other matters.
At Toa's worst he doesn't deserve a first grade spot. At his best I think he is better than anything Averillo has ever done. But they have similar highs and lows. I definitely don't think he is worse, just not convinced he is better.

Jake is a quality centre, so I assume Starford is on the chopping block.

Some are saying that he will take Jarome's spot, but I just can't see it.
Are we missing something, Latu was the next big 1/2s signing but we don’t pick him at all , has benji changed his mine and is willing to lose samula , the tots just don’t add up , or maybe I just not seeing what benji is looking at

Not with you all you do is bag every player and coach that has anything to do with the club when its obvious you have no idea what your talking abt. I still havent bothered with all your Bateman garbage. Hows that worked out for you. If this could did and i get he has a fairly impossible task im sure thered be most fans not you accept hes obviously deserves a second chance. You made the same fuss abt Tiny.
That was hard to read.
Maybe don’t get so worked up before posting because you come across as insanely unintelligent.
For your information I’m one of the few who wanted to talk about how well the players finished the game off last night, which shows everything you’ve written here is ridiculous crap.
I’ve dealt with your garbage before and couldn’t be bothered doing that again. You are on ignore with the other idiots.
See ya later.

To’a for some reason now looks to be the slowest centre in the NRL.
Not sure why shoulder injuries make you lose your speed, but it’s very noticeable.
Lack of speed is killing us and Averillo will 💯 help fixi that problem.

Makasini will be an elite centre. We’d be mad to stuff that up. He hasn’t reached 10 games yet. Latu Fainu has to be our current best option for replacing Luai. The reels are finally turning our way, we just need to be careful building depth where it’s competition for spots rather than roadblocks for talent.

Makasini has a stack of potential which we have seen glimpses of, but yesterday again showed he is not quite ready for the week in week out physical demands of an NRL centre.
The best way to get him ready for it would be playing on the left wing ideally outside of Taylor May and giving him games at centre when injuries occur.
I assume with our interest in signing Averillo that Benji agrees this is the best plan for Makasini moving forward.

You don’t get NRL experience sitting on your dot. Ideally it’d be good to bring him on a bit slower but your centre stocks are dismal. If that’s the plan fine, I just hope this is communicated to him clearly.

Solomon’s Saukuru playing wing for Knock Out Cup side scored 4 meat pies .. he’s a big lump of a bloke and carries some speed .. would be hard to stop by a small winger .. !!
I feel like the Tigers dont want tooo many young guys (Under 50 Games) at the one time

The want the players to trickle through, especially in the Backs

Tavana and Makasini are good enough for me in 2026

Sol Saukuru can be a real Beast for us in the next year or So

Averillo is a right sided player anyway, both Taylan and Makasini are left sided.
Doesn't really impact them, especially because Taylan is the best winger/centre at the club and Makasini is the most highly touted junior since Luke Brooks.
Not something to be alarmed about, Averillo is here to take Starfords spot and from what I can tell we are all fine with that

Averillo is really good and has an exceptional turn of pace. Id say the Dolphins are keen to keep him but Bostock and Farnworth is lose to the best CTW pairing in the comp. He will give us an attacking threat on both sides.

While I am dead keen on the signing, I really hope we are trying to find some more forward depth. The moment we have any forward injuries, our replacements are so far off the level required. Last night we only used 2 forward subs, which makes sense why we had nothing in the back half of the game.I think in the backs we have enough guys who can cover it and it doesn't have as big of an impact on the game.

2. Turuva
3. Averillo
4. May
5. Makasini

I think that works well.

As for the Averillo v To'a debate ... at this stage Averillo is more reliable. Until To'a can put together a few games in a row that prove he's willing to apply himself in defence and that his body isn't totally busted, then we can't count on him long-term.

Averillo has somethjng you can't coach. SPEED. His development at the Fins has been outstanding. Its a myth he's weak defensively albeit he's no Taylan May or Herbie Farnworth he's a walk up starter at right centre. Prior to injury he was great for the Fins and covers wing and fullback.

Not sure on the cost bit a starting centre of his quality will be around 450k - $550k I suspect.

Yes champion @TYGA, it's been awhile since we had a Tim Simona-type centre out wide.
Speed is the missing piece of the WT back line puzzle.

He's better than Toa and Herbert.
He's at least equal to them. They're all questionable in defence but he's much faster than both of them.

Given we'll have toa and Turuva in centres for the next few weeks he'd walk into our side.

BUT Averillo would need to be paired with a big winger. If you played him next to Turuva, Tavana, Laulilii they would get slaughtered in defend and in the air.

Saukuru is currently a fair way ahead of both Tavana and Makasini. He's stronger and faster than both. Defence is a wyesy mark for all. He's much more powerful than all our other young backs.
Yes makasini had a high ceiling but so far he hasn't proven much in any competitive fixtures. He's been rushed in before he's ready. He is exclusively a winger at this stage in his development and is paying the price for our weak squad.
