Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I assume we would have had to restructure his contract which was initially for 5 years, but an option in Luai’s favour after 2 years.
Since Luai decided to sign with PNG mid contract, wouldn’t that breach the initial 5 year contract, meaning we had to restructure a new one year contract for the 2027 season ?
I cannot imagine we were obligated to sign him for just the one season in 2027.
I bet no other NRL club including Perth Bears would have any interest in signing him for one season for 1.2 million
No … your assumptions are wrong … you shouldn’t rely on them

What is wrong about it, he broke the 5 year contract deal when he signed with PNG ?

He didn’t break any contract … the clauses were in there from the beginning allowing him to opt out after Yr 2 , 3, and 4… he elected to opt out after Year 3..

Now back to May and Bula ….specifically who do you want to replace them with ?

What is it with this team our top 17 was killing it and we looked to have turned the corner, then these injuries happen and the next up still to this day are just crap.

Too small, too slow and a bunch of opiums (slow working dopes), trouble is after all these D head expansion ideas of the NRL it makes it near impossible to buy your way out of it, soon to be a too diluted player pool.

The only way we achieve success is within and unfortunately that could take another 5 years, oh the pain, the pain.
And because the player market is being diluted to this extent it will not have that much of an impact on the likes of Penrith as the good players will still be attracted to a winning team like them, and attracted to PNG CHIEFS " but pretty much all the other teams will be stuffed, with this

"Tax Free" for the next 10 years,
SO THE TOP TALENT'S FOR AT LEAST THAT PERIOD WILL BE WINNERS,

The other teams dont have a choice,
they will battle it out for
3rd - 4th - 5th - 6th - 7th - 8th places and we will be battling to avoid the spoon.

I don’t necessarily want to replace them, but I don’t want to pay them a couple of hundred thousand more than their true value either.
If they are here for a money grab only, we should have let them go.
I assume you want better depth so we don’t keep getting belted like we have in 4 of our past 5 games ?
You need cap space to recruit and sign better quality depth.
That is not possible if you keep paying marquee player money to players who are not quite at that level, or if you are overpaying a fair chunk of your top 17 players.
This argument is going around in circles, but we have already identified that true marquee players are good d ough to carry a few bog average depth players and still be competitive, if not win games with them in their team occasionally.

In all fairness you could have the best defensive coach on the planet, but if the players selected to play are not capable it is not going to help.
Yes and No but since Benji will not be warned over this mess that someone in his team must go and our defense has been on the noise for quite a while.

The club had two options … pay them what the market dictated or let them go…

If you say let them go :.. then again .. what comparable players are you replacing them with :.. throw out a couple of names and we can discuss … but I think you will struggle for comparable talent prepared to come here

When you are talking 1 million dollar per season or higher contracts, I think you would be very surprised about the calibre of player it will attract.
Our top 3 paid players including Luai are not elite match winners and not even in the discussion for State of Origin.
I think it is only us and the Dragons who have nobody in their current playing roster that is considered elite and good enough to play State of Origin.
We all know how the Dragons season is going and on current form we are worse.

So no names for possible replacements ? None exist ?

You know we are trying hypothetically to improve the team … not make it even worse by letting the best players walk out the door

Edit - I’ve also heard they are both under a million a season

Solid 80 minute player .. should tighten that edge defence right up
Half our team that played yesterday are not capable of bruising a grape in attack or defence.
They don’t have the size, speed or aggression to make good metres or post contact metres let alone break a tackle or make a line break.
Have a look at Luciano’s stats from this season in comparison including his stats playing NSW Cup yesterday.
He is far from perfect, but he has plenty of attributes we do not have including size, mobility, aggression, fearless ball running which always makes good metres including plenty of post contact metres as well as good offloading ability and ability to break plenty of tackles and the occasional line break.
It would be great if he also had a great work rate which he does not have, but he would be a representative standard 900k plus player if he had the work rate to go with his impact.
Being off contract an approaching 30 years of age I reckon we could get him for around 400k which is fringe top 17 money and I know for certain he would offer plenty more than what half our team did yesterday.

I don’t agree …but he won’t be be coming anyway ..I don’t think he is a Benji type player so it’s a little moot … someone will pay him $400k thought most likely …

What are Benji type players, half of the imposters who have played in our past 5 games ?
That’s worked out really well hasn’t it ?
I am no genius, but if your team is lacking size, speed, power and aggression, you add some players who have those attributes don’t you ?

Luciano never got dropped once while he played for us as his form was always solid with the few high quality games each season.
We are badly needing an extra edge back rower to start when we have an injury and preferably one who can also play as a middle and provide good impact off the bench when we are full strength.
Both Luciano and Shawn Blore fit that description, but I would guess Luciano would be willing tto sign for less than what Blore would be due to his age.
Yes we have Ethan Roberts and Tony Sukkar waiting in the wings and also Phoenix Godinet emerging, but it would appear Benji is not confident enough to start any of them just yet and there are no guarantees he will be in 2027 either.
Geez, you’re hard to take seriously.

Agree or not, he is the guy who decides who comes here ….

Do you think old mate Luciano would have made a difference yesterday ?

Yes a massive improvement on Mavrik Geyer.
He at least runs the ball hard and plays aggressively, he would not have just sat back and copped it like half of our team did.
