Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I don’t agree. I’ve found Saukuru’s reads at centre in Cup very poor. Both have attacking ability but their edges collapse in defence. His best form was in the backrow

He’s also unsigned so probably best to give game time to players in the clubs plans.

I’ll respect your opinion here as I’m not familiar with his game .. although I have heard some of the pod boys talking him up of late

I’ve heard that Benji apparently does not have much confidence in Saukuru’s defensive reads and defensive work ethic.
I was a little surprised to hear that could be the reason why he is not getting an NRL call up as I’m sure many agree with me in saying I do not have much confidence in the defensive reads or defensive work ethic of a few of the players he keeps selecting in our NRL team each week.
Playing him in the second may be to get him more involved in defence. Involvement in defence imo in any sport, comes down to having a high level of fitness and willingness to play for the team.

Looking at your stats, you have many posts...but not too many likes.

Who is coaching you?
Now that's a thought?

Who would be the best Wests Tigers Forum coach I could get.

A few candidates come to mind:

Issac Moses = starting roumers, talking crap

Jayson Taylor = Interpersonal relations. Seriously it's between him and Ted Cruz who has the most repellant people skills.

Tim Sheens = Long term Unplanning, Hype.

Ivan Cleary = Commitment....

Heck, any forum commentators up to the task?
I want to get my likes, my BS and total lies up as stats. Can anyone help?

You're a legend. Don't change

Good post.

Even when Dylan Edwards came into first grade - he was shocking. Defensively, he was ordinary. Then after some time he became an outstanding player.
So is it our training?

Several first graders have come here and lowered their performance.

Josh Reynolds, Jack Bird, Luai (arguably), Jason Tamou, Bateman. Yes some were questionable picks, yet we still should be seeing some output from whom we sign.

The weird bit, people coming from Easts tend to really rise here. Matterson, Terrell May.
I would be happy to sign players from Easts because when we do they tend to go very well. Manly to a point as well.

Our training should be at NRL standard. At the start of the season we have this "hard preseason" and suddenely we win all our early games". then mid-late season "hard training" isn't mentioned and our player performance has dipped tremendously.

How do we get our training consistently up at the intensity of other clubs?

I would argue mid season leans more on a squads resilience rather than fitness, even if players are not out injured they are often playing injured.

Squads that are full of younger players often lack that resilience of more experienced squads.

Makas misses all seem relatively similar, he goes for legs tackles and they just slip straight out of his arms....probably due to him not using his shoulder as its shot...its all arms

I think also having a sore shoulder and some poor performances would really effect his confidence atm, hopefully a few things can go his way and we'll see an improvement.

So I think he still has a good performance in him, if he can get that confidence back.

That's interesting...

Particularly how bad some of our defensive reads have been and that Junior Tupou made large errors in defense at the Roarters.

That said, if it's all true glad Benji is taking defense seriously. We really need to continue to up our game here.

True but with the new rights deal the cap will go up abit. Signed most until 2030. Just need a couple more decent players.

“I see,' said the Patrician sweetly. 'You feel, perhaps, that it would be a marvellous thing to go to the Counterweight Continent and bring back a shipload of gold?'

Rincewind had a feeling that some sort of trap was being set. "yes"

'And if every man on the shores of the Circle Sea had a mountain of gold of his own? Would that be a good thing? What would happen? Think carefully.'

Rincewind's brow furrowed. He thought. 'We'd all be rich?'

The way the temperature fell at his remark told him that it was not the correct one.”

Yeah...i mentioned his shot shoulder

I think it’s highly likely Makasini will become a very good NRL player sometime within the next couple of years.
The problem for us is we have thrown all our eggs in the basket with him this year as an 18y.o rookie and it was clearly expecting and asking too much from him too soon.
He has gradually got worse as the season has progressed which is a real concern as to how badly his confidence has been effected.
We desperately need a big game from him against the Dragons tomorrow, but it’s hard tj be confident it will happen based on recent form.
Surely playing him in NSW Cup or even Jersey Flegg to help get his confidence back would have been a better option ?
Unfortunately the original plan was a softly softly approach where he came through on the left sting . Due to an absolutely historical injury toll in our backs he was used in the centres , as you said probably a year earlier than anyone wanted . But the issue now is you have to persist , and simply deal with the growing pains of watching an 18 yo phenom adapt to professional life .
Ideally he spends next year and the one after on the left sting eventually making his move inside one impossible to ignore . The injuries and falloff of Toa as a right centre has exacerbated the situation .
