Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The club is called Wests Ashfield.
There is a Magpie on the building.
They play all KOE games at Lidcombe, none at Leichardt or Commbank. There is no regular alignment to the NRL side on game day.
They had the chance to put the Wests Tigers first with an independent board - then sacked the lot of them the first chance they got.
These are not the action of united club.
These are actions of a club looking out for their own interests - Wests Ashfield.

The fact they dont have a fulltime coach re-inforces their lack of commitment to the Wests Tigers. If the Wests Tigers are to succeed, they need successful pathways. This starts with reserve grade. How can we bring juniors through at 14 or 15 years old if the club cant even invest in a coach for the reserve grade side?

All this stuff you talk about - recruitment, retention, juniors and pathways, its all irelevant, because we have no money being put toward them. Yet its all Richos fault?
They already destroyed the Magpies. Now they'll do it to Wests Tigers

People are catastrophising. We are in a good position to move forward next year.
We have a top 8 roster. Injuries and coaching have cruelled us this year.

Benji, Richo, Luai and Api have changed the culture here.
They have attracted quality players who want to be here and we have the best roster we have ever had.
This club is set up for success.

What we lack is coaching support for Benji, high quality experience that can take control of offence and defence and let Benji be the man manager he is. He is not a coach (like Bennett). He is a manager and he needs coaches around him that know what they are doing.

Geez, I wish Richo didn't leave. He was a one-way ticket to success.
Lol, we have a bottom 4 roster. Our top 17 if fit all season might be able to finish 9th.

But as we don't even have 18 first graders at the club is uttered absurd to think we're remotely close to finals. The dragons are much, much closer to playing finals than we are

Even if we do (There’s no way you can claim that imo), whose fault is that? Benji is in his third year, and he still has a bottom 4 roster. And finally no one can claim this is not his team, because it is, 200%. He should fall on his sword if that’s the best he can do.

The dynamics between CEO and Coach look to have changed from the outside looking in. Richo was a true authorative CEO. Love or hate him, ppl knew where they stood. Shaun seems too nice, and we don't need nice. We need brutal . We need results.
Leadership is incredibly well researched. You may be surprised to learn that some of the most credible, evidence based long term reviews of the subject suggest the opposite to the instinct expressed in your answer.

Do a quick search on Jim Collins and Level 5 leader.

The Dragons have a crop of excellent young forwards either in the NRL or coming through. They have always been one of the best, if not the best, producers of junior rugby league players. That club also has the ability to develop their talent. When you think players such as Bostock, Colquhoun are playing with other clubs, imagine the Dragons with all of its junior players. I expect the Dragons to be a force next year.

The Dragons have recruited brilliantly for next season, bringing in Koloamatangi, Drinkwater, Mefcalf, Watson, Sami and Blore to replace aging and underperforming players. With strong recruits and a talented young forward pack, they are a lay down misere to play finals next year.

Meanwhile, If the Tigers have a blessed run with injuries like last season, we are an outside chance of making the finals. But with the Bears' pitiful recruitment, at least we won't come last!

Are you suggesting the recruitment has been poor? I don't really understand your beef.
Yes our recruitment and retention when you factor in the dollar values has been average at best.
Our best recent recruitment has been the Fainu brothers which was done by a bloke we sacked shortly afterwards, the May brothers which virtually fell into our lap, but Benji has to get the credit for them.
Jeral Skelton was a good value for money recruit as has been Jock Madden despite his recent form slump.
KPP which you would assume was a combination of Benji and Shannon Gallant correctly identifying we only had one proven NRL quality second rower and more recently Jake Averillo which you would assume was a combination of Benji and Gallant correctly identifying we need more speed and class in our centres.

Sorry. You have just listed a bunch of guys you think are good recruits after saying our recruitment is poor.

You're all over the place. I'll put it to you that you just like to say stuff...You're really just looking for the engagement above all else. Is that accurate?

For a club who recently finished with 3 wooden spoons, those positive recruits I listed are not near enough.
Our current playing roster is still bottom 4 and despite some strange decision making and coaching decisions from Benji along the way, he over achieved with the position we were in after 10 rounds this season.
We are now where we deserve to be based on our playing roster, so it should be quite clear to you that we need to make some tough, hard decisions to improve our playing roster ASAP ?
Unfortunately we have missed the boat and there are now hardly any players that can improve us for 2027, except a couple of quality depth options, however there is still plenty of quality currently available for 2028.

Except the part where our current playing roster has never been bottom 4 - even when under strength…

Talk some more shit bro…
You’re getting good at it.

good point with newcastle they have beaten some ordinary teams (Dolphins without 7 players)
The one thing Newcastle have is they have a good defence, and have players who have a high work rate , and after losing KPP , they found another two to replace him , we have no one to replace our 1st pick forwards
