Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Anyone know why we’ve announced Luai is released?

Have we already agreed with a club how much we will chip in?

We wouldn’t be silly enough to give up our negotiating position if his preferred club is only willing to chip in $300-400k? We wouldn’t would we?

I would assume we've announced because its been agreed, I just hope we aren't chipping in too much i just read on fox sports up to half. Kade7 said above club hoping only to chip in 200k theres a big difference there. Hope fully we can get them to at least take him at $800 minimum.

No mate, no.. madden cannot tackle and panics in space,, douhei thinks defence is optional and refuses to pass too often .. this madden crap is ridiculous, he is a back up half but so far in his career has been unable to be consistent in nrl competition
That is true, but that is most halves.
Luai defends very well for a halve except for games such as last night when he is quite obviously not wanting to put his body on the line.

Serious question?

Out of all the fullbacks, who is Bula better than currently?

I would argue only Tuipiki, Tracey, Gutherson and Iongi.

Close calls are Weekes, Gray and Kennedy. Even dolphins backup fullback in Fuller provides more.

Bula is at the point of his career he needs to be producing more. I get he's carrying injury but even when he isn’t, he is not a creator. Time for excuses are over.
Not in the same class as Iongi or Weekes or an ageing Kennedy.
Gray is a much better attacking player, but a big defensive liability.

Which has produced maybe 1-2 ties in the last month from about 25 attempts
Doesn't mean he isn't the best in the comp at it.. Its also something new he developed this year. Imagine how it looks over the next 4 years..

How many times does he contest and no one is supporting him? The answer is plenty.

Not disputing he’s not good at it, he’s very good at it. But it dosnt achieve a whole lot. Occasionally it can lead to a try. His upper body strength is very low and usually tackled easily after it. I’d much rather he be better at ball playing or breaking tackles.

Is the next part of the development to catch the contested high ball rather than knock them on?
Have you got any idea or theory on why Turuva never seems to contest a high ball? I recall him doing it quite often when he was at the Panthers.

Is there a day that goes by you don't make shit up?

How many contests has Bula gone up for where he has knocked them on vs not?

Until we fix the major issue with our backline and get some element of speed in our forward pack, it will not matter who we have in our halves.
We are the only team in the NRL who is unable to shift the ball wide and at least threaten to make a line break as we have no speed and very minimal tackle break ability.
I’m no fan of Bula as a fullback on 900k maybe more, his true value is a 250k fringe NRL winger, but he at least has the speed to capitalise if we can stretch the opposition.
We are missing Taylan May, but he relies much more on power and a bit of footwork than he does speed,
Makasini will likely be our preferred option on the left wing and although he has been struggling badly defensively at left centre, he is showing some good signs with his yardage carries, particularly for an 18y.o who should be bigger, stronger and better in 2027.
That being said a left sided combo of Taylan May and Makasini doesn’t have much speed about them, so will be reliant on plenty of tackle breaks.
Jake Averillo will add some desperately needed speed, but from a defensive point of view a right side combination of he and Turuva do not look overly strong and the lack of height between them is a problem with aerial threats.
Never the less if all of those 4 are fit and healthy it’s a decent t 2-5, but still definitely not top 10 in the NRL.
The bigger issue is our depth to cover these players and apply genuine pressure to their positions.
We need a cleanout from top to bottom. Assistant coaches, talent identifiers and dollars.
We were flogged in ALL 3 GRADES this weekend.
Our brains trust on our future players are way off the mark on identification OR we can't afford them OR where to spend what we do have. Scatter gun mentality, surely one will work out?
Watched Jersey Flegg today get convincingly flogged.
Followed by our KOE side, who were also convincingly flogged.
As much as what is read on here what NRL players are in the pipeline the truth was laid bare today. (compared to other clubs) we have SFA.
Speed, height, size would be a good start to shop for.
Rant over, should be ready for more Rince - Repeat next week.
