We will not even be a consideration if we offer Katoa 1.2 million, he will receive 1.5 million offers and will get a minimum of 1.2 from much higher profile clubs than us.
As good as Katoa is, he is not bullet proof, I have watched a few games earlier this season where the Dolphins were not winning the yardage battle and Katoa was virtually non existent.
Considering we desperately need to add some real quality in regards to players who run the ball aggressively and/or defend with good line speed and aggression as well as add some more players with genuine speed and/or be good on the air, we realistically cannot and will not need to spend 1.2 to 1.5 million on a halfback or 5/8.
I have no doubt whatsoever if we put the right players around them, the halves we currently have in Doueihi, Latu Fainu, Javon Andrews and Jock Madden will get the job done.
Case point the Warriors, who seriously believes a halves combination of Te Maire Martin and Chanel Harris-Tabitha is high class? They are both good, willing, handy players, but there is nothing exceptional about them and as bad as our halves were last night, if you swapped the halves around it would not have changed the result.
We have had some bad edge defensive efforts this season which includes our edge second rowers regularly being out of position leaving us short on numbers, but last night was as bad as any of them. A good NSW Cup team, probably even our own NSW Cup team would have been making numerous line breaks we were that bad.
