Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It provides another opportunity to bag out signing Averillo though ..
I would send Turuva to PNG, play Joey Manu at fullback and Bula on the wing.
Or send Turuva and Bula to PNG, Joey Manu to fullback and Zac Lomax on the right wing.
Imagine that, we would actively have a decent backline and would be only one good middle and one good depth edge short of winning the premiership.

Turuva is one of our genuine NRL players and a fine finisher when given the opportunity. Manu has been a very special player but imo buying him at this stage of his career, with the retirement package he would demand, may result in the loss of some of our younger players important to our future.

I think your last sentence contradicts the rest of your post.

You've just argued that the majority of our starting side are players who'd walk into nearly any team and shouldn't even be part of the discussion around not trying or not being good enough. I'd also add Turuva to that list, and if we're counting Luai on quality and experience (not current form), that's nine of the 13 starting spots.

So if your assessment is accurate, why would "anyone you throw into this squad look rough"? It doesn't follow.

If we added three quality first-graders in 2027, we'd have almost the entire starting side made up of players you rate highly. That can't be the sort of team where a quality recruit would automatically look ordinary.

I think we simply tend to overrate a lot of our players. Once they put on a Tigers jersey, they somehow become better in our minds than they really are.

The reality is they're mostly just good first-graders. That's not turning on them, it's just an honest assessment of where they currently sit. Outside of Api, and Luai (on reputation rather than current form), none are anywhere near elite in their positions. They put in the effort and can be excellent on their day, but they're not consistent enough to be viewed in the way you've described.

(Doueihi is an odd exception. It's difficult to judge him too harshly when he's being asked to play a position that clearly isn't his.)
Thing that causes the confusion is that when Douhei plays well he plays well as an individual in a team sport .. he doesn’t pass the ball enough and at the right time to be a 7 in a top 4 team .. he rarely passes once he has a hand on him from a defender and his passing game is premeditated when it comes off but his ability to catch and pass under pressure is very limited .. he has probably been out best player this year but at the expense of other players outside him often.. what annoys me is that if he was right centre outside latu and Andrews and KPP I think he would get so many run opportunities to his strengths that would make him enjoy an elite year , he could still come and an Kick when necessary.. a good coach could use him like turbo in origin that gets a roving licence , but that would require Adam to be a team player and subvert his ego for the good of the team .. Benji imo has to make some changes and his man management skills will be tested .. Wayne bennet has mad many many much bigger calls throughout his career

If you are wishing for all that to happen… then I’m gunna wish for your mates to sell the team… about as likely

I strongly doubt Manu would even look at us, he’s got the tax free incentive in PNG on one hand, and Uncle Nick on the other.

Very true what you are saying and the reason why we would not even consider Joey Manu or Zac Lomax.
Turuva is one of the most wholehearted players I have seen, plays well above his size and weight nearly every game.
So when saying I would get rid of him it doesn’t mean I don’t rate him as a player, I just don’t think he has the physical traits to do the special things our team currently needs from a winger.
Similar story with Bula, I can see how he could run rampant utilising his speed in a team that regularly creates space on the edges. Problem is that team is not us at the moment.
I’m very curious as to whether a halves combination of Latu Fainu and Javon Andrews could really unlock him?

Never say no to an upgrade TS.
Surely if you bought the club and it was your money at risk, you would be all for player upgrades whenever an opportunity presented itself?

Would be hard for Douehi, as I have said previously, he feels that if something is going to happen, it will be up to him.
And the people around him are superfluous !
I think he could be a very good centre but I wouldn’t want to be on the wing outside him. Maybe Benji just has to pick him there and get on with it, but this week it will be Luai 6 and Madden 7, to start.
Andrews may pick up Latus no 14 and get a run during the game.
That’s if we don’t get destroyed by the Green Machine !

Turuva has been forced to play a position he is not suited… I’m not sure why the coach perseveres .. there must literally be no one else he has any trust in …he is not a superstar at winger but he is a solid enough player and holds down a position that is very important …I could name 10 more under contract next year that concern me a lot more …

Cmon man …your trade ideas are just silly make believe that’s never gunna happen..

who knows we could have let Toa go and gone after Manu with cash
nah we went for Averillo, hood player however we shoukd have gone for better
Agreed , also Cleary we could go for and maybe Walsh at fullback and I’d like Herbie and we could see if we could get Payne Haas to tell souths to go away .. also Hamole in second row ..

Sometimes I think you are content with us finishing 14th to 17th?
I’m thinking big TS. I love a battler, but not a full team of them.

It’s such a Wests Tigers thing ..there is an argument he has been our best players over the course of the season ( certainly not the past few weeks), but has these flaws in his game…
