Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Agreed ..but who do you want to sign now who is still on the market ?

Thought they might have had some interest in Blore
We need to examine the clubs with a history of producing good second row forwards on the cusp of the NRL or near too. The Knights, the Bulldogs and Warriors are clubs I'd be looking at.

In the immediate term ..( for next season) , they need a better first up solution for depth at the edge position then turning to Sione Fainu.., it’s now their most pressing need

Unbelievable?
No not for mine. He has had some great games for us but they can be counted on two, maybe three hands only.
The vast majority of his time here has been marked by failure.
Can’t agree. Bloke has been surrounded by duds. He is right up there with Gaz Ellis as far as signings go for us IM
You can’t blame everyone else all the time.
He was brought here for leadership due to his high level of experience winning comps and playing in big rep games and finals.
That investment has returned 2 x bottom 4 finishes including twin spoons, a 13th place and most probably another bottom 4 this year. Individually, he has featured 3 out of those 4 years in the top 2 players comp wide for most missed tackles and has only won 24 games here in 4 years at a 30% success rate.
Whilst I agree he tries hard, I’m equally sure most will look back on his career here once finished and wonder if results could have been much different had he not played here. For me the jury is out. Next year will need to be a belter.
His performances have been equal to any hooker in the comp. He has been in the top 5 hookers in a period where he has literally carried an entire team. Team results are completely different to individual performances. He has delivered everything he was brought here to do. Go & have re-watch of those losses & tell me Api wasn’t in the top 5 players in any game. You won’t find many.

How has he delivered everything he was brought here to do?
This needs more clarity as I have provided a reasoned counter argument to that very point.

Come on mate that is absurd. He has had some bad ones and they are the ones you can count one ir 2 hands. He has carried a mediocre group of heartless dogs on his shoulders.
Just saying this doesn’t make it so. He is not a martyr for this club, often contributing to the rot with poor play, missed tackles, poor discipline and leadership.
I’ve shown plenty of times on here that his performances in our colours are greatly overrated. Last year when TDS was leaving I showed that APIs good games were nearly always tied to a tandom effort with Tallyn.

We're not signing a quality backrower who'll be happy to sit behind KPP and Samuela.
I think we'll have a couple of very decent back ups with Roberts and Broederlow having another off season under their belt.
Remember Roberts had a long spell out injured and has been playing catch up since he's been back.
Broederlow's a talent.

He didn’t stop spoons. 2 and 3. Are you saying he was the reason we escaped it last year and this?

Obviously i cant directly point to Api preventing us getting the spoon last year and this year, I was merely making a point to highlight how good, as an individual he has been. Dont gey me wrong, I have had moments and games where I was really disappointed on Api. But more often than not, I have sat back and been bewildered by how he has pushed himself to a stand still t try and get this team going. I honest6bekiwve we cant ask much more from him

Neither will be the answer next season.

That’s fair and I suppose for me that ceiling hasn’t been high enough.
My original post was in reply to a claim he has been unbelievable for us. I don’t see that value.
Is the club that more advanced than 2022?
Despite a better roster which are winning a few more games based on their individual skill levels…our defence is still uncommitted, our attack is rudderless, our mental aptitude is weak, our leadership soft, the pathways not producing, our development programs are ineffective and our culture seems divisive. We are still losing guys mid contract who are playing good footy elsewhere and we still cause a huge amount of drama throughout the season off the field.
I was expecting better gains from bringing premiership calibre players like Api in. I don’t think that’s been delivered at all.

I believe he has brought leadership on the field. He doesn’t say follow he actually leads with actions. He leads our team with effort on effort on effort plays something we didn’t have prior. He keeps pushing himself through fatigue & injury. The most important thing he has brought is belief in a fan base. If you watch our training he competes on everything, he fights for every inch at training. Unfortunately his team mates haven’t had the same mindset. If you measure results alone then sure you have a fair argument but if you measure his performance alone not sure how you can argue.

And Taotua is coming along nicely

I think he has been perfectly adequate, even strong as a player. We have got what we bought there.
As a leader - par. You can’t just focus on your own game as a marquee. He is far too quiet, doesn’t say anything of note in pressers and isn’t a general type. I think we needed that.
As an influence to help turn the club around, failure. He already suspected that before he got here as evidenced with his mocking of the joint. I think he has been surprised at the enormity of the job and it has overwhelmed him.

I take it all back. Api just produced one of if not the worst plays of all time to cost the Tigers the game. Absolutely disgraceful performance by Api
