That's the advantage of having a really good development and talent identification system. All the cost is upfront, but the savings come when you don't have to go to market. We have some really good staff in our system but we they require augmentation.

I’ll be surprised if the brothers go to the Roosters ..Latu would be a permanent depth piece there and I assume paid accordingly.. and I can’t see them paying Sam $1 million plus like we will no doubt offer him …it’s not an area of weakness in their team and they don’t lack for internal options to replace Crightin for cheaper…Sam has a high ceiling and could be an Origin level player ..but it’s still a bit of a risk to pay him like one now ..the Tigers will do it ..im not sure the Roosters will
I guess Farnsworth is some chance of going there as he is an elite player …they will need to offer him top money to get him out of Brisbane ,,,he plays in a good team already and seems happy there ..I’ll say he stays with the Dolphins although that could be wishful thinking ..

1.2 mil is massive for a back-rower IMO.
If he wants that kind of money, he should be moving to prop to finish the year and demonstrate his worth there.
We should be looking at Hudson Young/Preston to fill the backrow void, or otherwise seeking to progress the development of Ethan Roberts to a significant degree.

No one . They simply underperformed . What do you do ? Evaluate , re-assess and figure out what you did wrong , what metrics you were using that failed you , and move forward .
I don’t understand weeks of bitching and moaning about this . I got it when we lost to the knights and even warriors , the eels was heartbreaking .

They trusted guys , the guys didn’t live up to expectations . And it’s Monday morning quarterbacking to say things like “our depth is shit”. No one thought it was shit in march . Not external of the club nor internal , and especially not the forum .
Which leads to one conclusion - the depth all shat the bed. The club leaned on them , and they weren’t up to it . So if everyone said the talent was there . Which we all did . Then why did they shit the bed , was it the depth didn’t suit the systems in place , was it shit coaching , I genuinely don’t believe that has anything to do with lack of effort , pride in your performance etc. it’s not nfl , it’s not that complicated .
The Starford contract was given prior to his injury , so that’s just picking facts to suit your agenda . Apparently he’s alright ?! Medically he’s good to go …. Which means what .. he has the yips ? He’s pushing through and lying about the pain , he’s checked out ….. I dunno but he’s a shell of himself and getting outplayed by 20 year olds in cup so… who knows .
But how do you plan for a guy who in 2025 showed signs of becoming one of the elite right centres , who gets a run of the mill shoulder injury , to then fall off such a cliff , some guys on here who watch cup religiously want him dropped to Massey . There’s something going on there .
I remember clear conversations around him coming good this year and having real potency on both sides of the ruck … and then we didn’t . And it’s been stop gap after stop gap. The salary cap doesn’t allow you to have 3 elite centres . He was on 500-600k . Thats getting up there . Apparently we have one of the better strength and conditioning teams in the comp with Peter Moussa and his team , so , yeah , unless there’s been gross negligence , which I highly doubt it considering Peter Moussa having a rep for being overly cautious… it’s a bit rich to “he’s injured” . He just passed a medical to move to manly . That wouldn’t have happened if what you’re saying is true .
My guess is … he had the yips , and he’s terrified of hurting it again . I know exactly that feeling . It’s hard to overcome. I don’t think personally I ever did if I’m honest . But I’m not an nrl player . And 99% of those players bounce back straight away .
We can't easily replace Samuela and that has to be taken into account before getting dismissive about monetary value. All teams are better for having mobile physical edge forwards and our loss will be another teams gain and we will never progress if we can't retain the good ones.

Why do u think the rooothers let ROberts go , maybe because they had a heap of backrowers coming through and Roberts was at the bottom of the ladder , when watch Roberts and then watch the rooothers backrow , they are well in front of Roberts

If Sam Wants 1.2 the club should make the call and either pay him or go after someone else now , we wait and we get nothing then spend stupid amounts buying 2 nd rate players to fill holes like all years before , get the deal done , the cap is going up , Luai was 1.2 million and didn’t do much , Sam Competes and does well

It will be interesting to observe how the first echelon of players signing with PNG fare. There is more to it than money and in particular I will be interested to learn about health impacts and also impacts on families, wives/partners/girlfriends.

I'm not in any way, shape or form suggesting we will be competing with teams like the Roosters next year, or at least for the next 5 years lol.
I am suggesting that to devote a large part of our cap to someone who is playing in the back-row, and has not performed to the level of an elite back-rower this year would be very risky.
I cannot think of another backrower earning 1.2m a season. What justifies Samuela being the first other than potential?
We have been paying players on potential for the last 15 years. We almost had two players tied to >1m contracts because of potential. Thankfully, we dodged a bullet and they left.
Start paying players what they deserve based on actual results.

Id pay it. As you said, cap is going up. He is a weapon. Our best player by far. Look at the difference he made when he came back from injury in that half alone.
Good.players in Ball and Flegg imo are in rhe box seat...they.can sit back and see exactly how it all.unfolds...by the time some are cracking.first grade the chiefs will have been around a few years and things positive and negative over there will be.a.lot.clearer

They’ll have to turn over the roster regularly hence their signings are all older players, wonder how younger players will go if they sign any. Feel like they would only handle compound living 2-3 years max.

they can’t even approach anyone yet until Nov 1 unless they have the current clubs permission or clauses that allow them to do so .. These guys are gunna be older at this point …im curious to see how things develop in Novemeber ..
The no tax thing and the PM saying he will get Mining companies to sponsor players are massive leg ups ..and some younger guys will do it to make their money …I agree it will be only 2-3 years but then the next group comes in ,,
