Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It’s a hard decision because in theory an ageing Jamal Fogarty is still the experienced onfield talker and dominant halfback we need, but we already lack genuine strike, speed and tackle break ability and he certainly doesn’t help with that and he is reliant on having these types of players to feed the ball to.
IF he was playing halfback in our full strength team he would have a reasonable amount of strike, speed and tackle break ability to play alongside of, but we again have very little depth who can maintain that once we get any injuries.
If Fogarty is not a replacement for ad at no expense to the club ,it makes little sense

From Cleary to Fogarty…

Surely we can do better and sign an emerging young halfback from a club that already has their 7. Look at Lincoln Fletcher, Coby Black and Elijah Birve for example, all will be regular first graders but have a halfback blocking their path to first grade
Is Coby Black available for 2028, title not until 2029?
I think he has the all round potential superstar qualities.

I like most who watch a lot of our lower grades am a massive fan of the potential in Javon Andrews, but he looks very much more a creator for others than someone with a lot of individual brilliance.
AD is the opposite and we think Latu can potentially do both, but until we see more of him in the halves at NRL level we don’t know for sure.
I think a good halves combo has a good blend of creating for others and individual brilliance.

Cronk was an undersize center ready to be placed on the scrap heap until Matty Johns did some work with the team
No he wasn't. He was an Aussie schoolboys inside centre at union when he signed with Brisbane Norths. He then became their 6 playing the odd game at 7. He was then used as a bench utility in his first couple years in first grade always going back to the halves with Norths. When Orford left Storm the 7 jersey was vacated and Cronk had been groomed to take the role. It was in that offseason that Johns did some specialist halves coaching with him but it was always his spot to take. How much the specialised coaching helped is debatable as is it if was any more or less then the halves coaching most young halves get.

so he was a center than - thanks for the history lesson

The Fogarty news is interesting.
I still think we're plotting for a big play at a halfback (The Cleary play is evidence of that and i have my suspicions on who's on our hitlist) but a 2 year stop gap with Foggarty isn't the worst option with Manly chipping in.

Purely looking at getting as much experience on the field at the same time, and the fact that Fogarty and Doueihi are both right-side players:

RIGHT SIDE: Fogarty, KPP, Doueihi and Turuva.

LEFT SIDE: Latu, Samuela, Taylan and Averillo.

This leaves Makasini and Andrews to develop in Cup but can come in as back-up. Madden to fill in for Fogarty in a like-for-like (ish) replacement at halfback if we need it. Doueihi to focus on his hard running. And Averillo's speed on the wing...

All the best halfbacks are experienced, not many rookie halves are ready to step in and lead a team.

Latu has been in the first grade setup for 3 years and I’m not convinced he is ready to be the main man yet.

Fogarty brings that and still has a couple of years in him.

I was really thinking about it when we had Charlie Staines and Naden playing reserve grade

No way the Rooster would have 850K of first grade cap playing seconds back then that's Joey Manu cap space playing Reggie's so stupid

Or Royce Hunt playing reserve grade is crazy

The Roosters would have Hunts and Seyfarth money rolled into 1 elite forward who could play 55 minutes of quality football not to Neville's

The Rosters tend to stack the first 5/6 players then a drop till around players 15/16 players in spending then it drops off a cliff in spending on players 17 to 22 then the Neville

We don't want both if the eventuated , reckon Foggety would be better for Javons development AD in a massive hog and made of tissue paper
I went to the knights tigers game in Newcastle it was an absolute bludger of a game AD cost the tigers that game I believe, he gave sukkar a nice short ball to score other than that the play died with him every set not once did he pass to the outside backs nor put in a grubber behind the line in the wet was so frustrating to watch
