As a footy team we will have to start and be more consistent and win games otherwise none of the "big name" players will want to come to our club…why would they ?

so can some one on here please explain to me and others on here, if we have this great war chest of money and yes we will cull some for next year, why the hell have we not signed some quality players. now i dont want people screaming we dont want these players i will pit up they are just for example. in the last 2-3 months we have seen boyd and paulo both leave the raiders, glasby has left the storm, pangi and sua are unsigned at the broncos and i also think tarpine is of contract. so i ask IVAN –IVAN WHY THE HELP HAVE WE NOT SIGNED SOME OF THESE. rather the the plodders we have.

You cant force someone to sign for you.We have not been a "choice" destination ever even after 2005.
The club has always been trying to improve the roster

well that does not hold water newcastle have had the wooden spoon 2-3 times and they seem to have signed some handy players, seems more like the club only wants plodder types.

becauseeeeeee…..Gus does not stand in the way if young players can get an NRL opportunity elsewhere..

Not sure 851 but I keep coming back to why would Nathan come to us the way we are playing at the moment. I know he wants to play under his Dad but it doesn't have to be this next contract.

If Panthers miss out, I think he will stay there to win with his mates, and at least have another year with Maloney.

Too much importance placed on him coming here - if he does that is good but I wouldn't count on it.

Newcastle is a more attractive destination for footy and for families.
If X player or even non player, say Joe Average wanted to move to Sydney to play or be associated with one of the Sydney clubs. Where would they rank the lure of living in the inner west, especially if the kind of life style is not what your used to.
Roosters have the eastern suburbs. And hence attract the most successful players, followed by the 3 other beach residences of Cronulla, Manly and Wollongong at a pinch.
Penrith has got a 80% local team and paid WAY overs for Tamou, Merrin, Peachy, Whare, Soward. Peter Wallace came back on an average amount being a local junior.
Then there’s parramatta Blacktown. Predominantly islander central of Sydney, so they have managed with the help of Fairfield sports to just keep that going.
Bulldogs are a family club and did a very good job of selling that. Plus the Bankstown region in Sydney was one of the cheaper areas to work and play. Souths are the pride of the league, and were a basket case destination until Russell Crowe put some money into the club.
Where do we rank?
No one training ground.
No one homeground.
Terrible facilities either way.
Cost of living possibly highest in Sydney.
Do we look like an attractive club?

please try been on the same page rather than been a fool, have a look what they have signed for next year, and what brown hopes to bring in compared to what we have lined up, which is NOTHING.

Not sure 851 but I keep coming back to why would Nathan come to us the way we are playing at the moment. I know he wants to play under his Dad but it doesn't have to be this next contract.

We can live in hope Russ that we show some ticker between now and the end of the season, so when Cleary decides where he is signing in November, we are a better looking option than we are now.
To do this we need to win some games, and not get lapped in the ones we don't, also maybe sign a couple of players as well.

Because good wingers in Union are paid a lot more than wingers in RL

I'd rather us have spent an extra 500k this season and possibly make the finals than do yet another year of front loading contracts. Let's just try to win for goodness sake!

We need some outside backs and theres not a lot there. I really think we should go all out for Blake Ferguson. He is by far the best quality outside back on the market by a long way. I also think the Morris brothers may be worth it for a year as a stop gap (they would stillb e the best backs we have) and then suss the market out next year for someone more long term.

His reply to that , was , that there will be close to half a dozen
