Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

@Spud_Murphy I haven't seen much of Koroisau, can he kick in general play? We need a hooker that can to make up for the halfback we have.

His kicking game is pretty good, but he was out for a long stretch with a serious foot injury last season and I haven't seen him play this season. Main strengths are his defence and very, very quick out of dummy half. He and Jarome Luai, who I suggested we also sign, would more than make up for Brooks, but like I said I'm just dreaming. It doesn't hurt to dream.

Patrick Herbert played centre for the warriors tonight and out played his opposite, Chambers, wonder what his contract situation is

@Spud_Murphy Just get rid of everybody - why hold back.

Oh! right, you haven't.

Oh! and by the way - no chance in hell of even getting one of the eight players you mentioned. Writing their names is just fluff. Let's be realistic for God's sake.

There are some good realistic signings we can make. We are not getting superstars until we are a finals team with facilities.

Joe Ofehengaue, Jordan Rapana, Kurt Capewell, Api Korosau, Christian Welch, Tui Kumaikica, Solomone Kata, Agnatius Passi, Hymel Hunt, Peni Terepo, Tepai Meroa, Ethan Lowe.

You obviously missed the bit where I said I was dreaming? Either that or you're just a dufus.

@TYGA I would be happy with some of these players, they are better than what we have. Two players I would like to add is Brayden McGrady & Braden Hamlin-Uele. And maybe find a good young winger with pace & height running around in Canterbury Cup.

A few of them are top shelf plodders, no better than what we have.

Would definitely look at Ofehengaue, Rapana, Korisau & Welch. Would not touch Kata or Meroa with a 10 foot pole.

I think that once it becomes clear that we are no chance for the 8, and that could become clear by the end of June-July period ..... and that’s the time few of our development players become eligible for NRL selection ... they may get a sniff at first grade. Most of them are backs and some have speed so it will give the coaching staff opportunity to see where we are heading and what we need to add to our roster next year.

I also think that Gamble should be given another chance, perhaps as a centre this time.

I .... like most on here, agree that we need to improve our back line significantly if we are going to compete.

Looking to Pacific Islands, NZ and even PNG is the go particularly for speedy athletic wingers. It’s just matter of good scouting and recruitment.

So for mine to fill our requirements effectively it’s either via that avenue or by purchasing established quality players from either the NRL or the English competition.

We also desperately need a ball playing forward. It seems to be a dying art these days but boy having someone on our books who can effect our second phase attack from the forward line would be great to see.

@Madge ''we already have half our roster or more like French…reserve graders!!!
@supercoach actually we don't have a single player like French in our current 30 man squad. Not one.

Looking at our squad for next year we should be looking for the following positions as a priority

1. Hooker
2. Strike Left Centre
3. Lock / Prop
4. Left backrower pending what happens with Lawrence and Garners developement

I know people get all upset but in reality we arent replacing other positions and making 10 changes in our starting line up but we can target areas of improvement - this year we added Matterson who fixed the right back row position

Hooker and Strike centre shuld be our focus

We won't be able to make big changes at prop until the year after when Mats finishes up and we will also see Twal and Mikele continue to improve although with madge coaching NZ mayby we are a shot at eseese from the knights

at centre if we could pick up a James Roberts/ Dylan Walker then that improves our backline, if we targetted Ofahenguae for the lock position as Madge likes a hard running lock not a ball player as such and with thier other players off contract

Hooker is the big worry as thier isnt much on the market but one i think could open up is perhaps Kodi Nikorima leaving Broncos and we could look at him and Liddle sharing the hooking duties as he is better suited to hooker then half imo, another option Danny levi from knights to share with Liddle

I have watched Capewell this season, he is always pushing up to receive the ball or be a decoy, not sitting back watching like our blokes, his defence is good, he is still young and he is quite quick for a backrower, we could do way worse.

The most outrageous suggestion wins....

What's irritating is having to address the same needs year after year. We never seem to get the right type of players in the positions that we actually need to strengthen to balance out the team (Matterson excluded).

@Balmain_Boy
He may be able to run but that is where the skill ends. We need a big tall robust fast winger...Blake Ferguson would have filled the mould. Anyway Iam sure we can do better than French

The closest we have to what you ask for is Zac Cini, the wonderkid in Flegg. He still needs to fill out though but has a much bigger frame that our current backs.

Didn’t realise Kahu had gone to nth Queensland. Why the hell did we not throw the sink at him - a fast goal kicking centre? Maybe we did? Far out our recruitment is frustrating. Imo he should have been a HUGE priority.
