Wests Tigers have identified Manly hooker Api Koroisau as a potential replacement for Robbie Farah and could make a play for the diminutive rake.
Foxsports.com.au understands the Tigers have not made any formal approach to Koroisau, but the player’s name has been mentioned behind closed doors at Concord.
Koroisau is contracted to Manly until the end of 2021 and would need to be granted a release in order to leave the northern beaches.
To be able to make a formal offer to the player, the Tigers would first need to get permission from Manly hierarchy to approach him.
Foxsports.com.au is not suggesting the Tigers have acted outside the NRL laws, but believe the club’s recruitment staff have spoken of Koroisau as recently as this month.
Koroisau’s manager Giancarlo Lombardo claimed to have had no contact from the Tigers about his client in recent weeks but said he had received general inquiries about Koroisau from a number of rival clubs already this year.
Koroisau won an NRL premiership under now-Tigers coach Michael Maguire when the pair were at South Sydney in 2014.
That year, Koroisau was in and out of the NRL team but played in the winning grand final as a result of Issac Luke’s suspension.
Farah is off contract at season’s end and it’s expected the veteran rake will hang up his boots, although he has hinted at playing on for another year.
Either way the Tigers will be planning for Farah’s retirement and discussing contingency plans for 2020.
