Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

No way is Mitchell worth that money. He appears to be mentally busted at the moment (for whatever reason) and he also appears to be throwing his toys out of the cot because Freddy isn't pandering to him the way he's used to.
he deserved to be dropped...he was woeful during origin and 2 tries against the bulldogs is no reason to believe the hype. I hope the dogs do get him for ridiculous money. It will get the roosters to suck eggs, and it will be good to see the bulldogs blow their cap, and for him to see what it's like not playing with a star studded cast every week.

Ridiculous money. I don't think he is worth it, but even if he plays well for 5-6 years, there is no guarantee he is going to be worth $1.1 million when hes 29-32 years old. Could be a long few years at the end of that deal.

But on the other hand $1mill a season may not be ridiculous money in 6 years time. The cap may be double what it is now.

It's got risk but you gotta admire a club with big enough balls to try and turn their club around.

If this offer is true it would be very hard as a player to say no to that for a start... However I do not see him leaving the Roosters but you would have to think they would have to pay him a serious salary to keep him with that on the table - Roosters will only mark it down on the salary cap for 350k max because players love to play there on min wages.. Cough Cough.. The NRL is a joke and needs a overhaul on how salary cap / TPA are worked out

I'm only guessing @Yossarian would probably know who it is. My guess is Kane Bradley from this list.

Not sure but is our CEO back this week ? If so I would of thought they would of held a press conferences to update everyone on what happened and happening.
With Mannah falling over I have a feeling we might still sign an external player as a lot of clubs are turning players over.. I think we will also send one of our current players off before June 30 as its too much noise for nothing to happen.
Fingers crossed anyway

There isn't much point promoting one of them when we can play them in first grade after June 30 anyway. If we have cap space and we can improve our roster from outside then that's what we should be doing.

funny how the dogs cap problems have just disappeared and now there buying every one, are we the only mugs at this cap game or what.

Apparently so.

Makes no sense to upgrade a development player, they are eligible to play after 30 June. I would go with one of the over aged players upgrade Bilal Maarbani. Has been killing it when he gets a game and covers wing, fullback & centre.

No, I would say Bulldogs have shown to be the top mugs if they are going to offer $1M x 10 year deals.

I don't care if Cowboys set the precedent with Taumalolo, it's just a crazy high-risk situation. One injury or mental episode and the whole house of cards comes toppling down.

The only thing I'm not clear on right now is whether or not medical retirements can still be sought if the injury didn't exist prior to the current contract. I thought with the Watmong situation the precedent was pre-existing injuries only, and I don't believe we got cap compensation for Fulton's early retirement? But Souths were allowed to wipe Inglis' contract (he's not taking any further playing salary I don't believe) and instead give him an off-field role.

Roosters are the truly creative accountants. Whenever they sign a player, it's fine, because they were a few hundred thousand under the cap. But when they release that same player, it frees up $1M in cap space.

Hooper reporting bulldogs to offer Mitchell an $11million 10 year contract
https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/exclusive-bulldogs-make-record-115-million-10year-play-for-sydney-roosters-superstar-latrell-mitchell/news-story/ad2d483e51d449e6c7e9b264f2e8260e

Latrell baby take it with both hands! You are potentially the best footballer in the country and also a bookies' favourite for career-ending meltdown.

Guaranteed $1M+ for a decade - I just don't see TV rights increasing by such a margin as to take the top salaries much over $1M for the next decade. Even if NRL introduces new teams and the TV revenues go up accordingly, there would be whole squad(s) of new players to pay out, diluting the pot.

$1M+ per season and no paper bags to worry about.

If this offer to Mitchell is even remotely true they would have to be guaranteeing him the 5/8 spot as well. the rorters are always waffling on about he is their future 5/8 but still won't play him there. No doubt they'll sign him for 400k less on the grounds that he just didn't want to leave and was happy to bide his time at centre.
