Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

@gallagher in total agreement with ya there, Gal, it’s now the time for him to fall on his sword either by being a half decent bloody cheat or taking a righteous path to make us prosper. Clearly our biggest and most fundamental issue is media scandal’s but I do feel that at last we’ve got a genuine man manager in charge capable of igniting some Sheens-like spirit in the squad - let’s face it they’re mostly nuffies atm and not much better waiting to be signed. Talking about Madge that is.

Pascoe must succeed in this financial period as well as keep us out of harms way - if he does that the rest looks after itself, if not, then as you said his doom would be impending!

Hopefully Madge gets the resources he needs.

Its not a death sentence to be under a bit of cap pressure.

This club struggles to sign top quality players full stop. We are not attractive to these kind of players.

Being under cap pressure forces us to try and sign up and comers. its a much better situation than trying to sign middle of the road players on overs.

Im excited to see the type of player Maguire goes looking for. Already we have young Garner and Jake Simpson. Its just the start.

Interesting thoughts, and I'm inclined to agree.

Maybe that's because he doesn't live in Sydney! lol

He's going to high school on the Gold Coast. Just because he's contracted/has a scholarship with an NRL club doesn't mean he has to be playing for them.

Something will give with our squad sooner rather than later imo. We can’t go into 2020 with almost every major signing from last year on the outer. I don’t think any club can have that amount of money not on the field. Guys like Packer, McQueen, ET and Reynolds. Not all will be offloaded, but it would help if one or two are. There’s no way all 4 can be on the books next year if Madge refuses to pick them.

The question is how much of their salaries we'll be paying while they play elsewhere. No-one is going to take 100% of any of those deals off our books either because they think the players are worth it or to do us a favour.

Personally I'd be pretty surprised if anyone was prepared to offer more than about 300k a year for Reynolds at this point. Matulino might get the same or a shade more. Taylor, Packer and McQueen would barely be worth a minimum salary bid - even to do that another club would have to think they justify a roster spot and that has to be a major question . That would give us something around a million dollars of cap room back but with five roster spots to fill out of it plus any contract upgrades we've given out.

I wouldn't be expecting marquee signings even if we unload the lot of them, basically. Once again, we've wasted far too much of the cap on duds and we're knackered until those contracts expire. I wish people would remember that next time they bleat on about "established first grade" signings.

Geez, there's pessimism and then there's you.

Sure no one is going to pay full freight for any of our players, but they're worth more than what you think.

Just read top 10 list with top NRL $ earners listed:=

Daly Cherry-Evans ($1.3 million) would not pay anywhere near that
Cameron Smith ($1.1 million) worth every cent
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck ($1.1 million) we dodged a BIG bullet there
Cooper Cronk ($1.05 million) last year yes .... this year NO
Sam Burgess ($1 million) worth every cent
Kieran Foran ($1 million) WOW money for the jam
James Tedesco ($1 million) worth more
Mitchell Pearce ($1 million) not really
Ash Taylor ($1 million) WOW money for the jam
Jason Taumololo ($950,000) worth every cent
Also Nathan Cleary is somewhere near that figure also

Amen brother ..... you do realize that this thread is the WT supporters "Waling Wall".
You would think we are the only club with supporters that have not got similar problems.

We dodged a bullet missing out on RTS? He is a billion trillion times better than any player we have. Comparing him at $1.1m to Reynolds at $850k and Mbye on (supposedly) $950k makes him look like amazing value.

@Roar_Power

I wish they had of pushed him further on Packer. They asked "what is going on" and Pascoe just said "they get along, no problems etc etc" soft laughter "in the week I have been back no problems" soft laughter and awkwardness...

They should have said "so, why has he not played any grade for six weeks"...........but changed the topic.

Do you realise Packer has a hip injury..? Or do you expect him to play CC while injured?
