How many do we have signed for 2020? My count is 23-24

Going by the contract sticky I put up, there's 23, including Talau and Seyfarth.

Madden Cini and Bradley move onto NRL contracts in 2020 I believe..don't know if you included them in your numbers

Trying to read between the lines (and body language when he was asked) as to what Madge said in his recent interview the other night, on Fox Sports NRL 360 ..... I think that if any of the “high priced trio” (Mats, Packer and Reynolds) do not improve their injury status by the end of this season ..... they will be shown the door contract or no contract. So we might have to pay freight but that’s life I suppose ..... better than what we have been carrying this season.
I would also imagine that if Nofa and McQueen can find themselves a deal elsewhere they will be on the same bus out.
As far as recruitment .... Pom alluded that Capewell and Welch are both on our radar so both would be good pick up replacements.
I would assume that Farah and Benji will both be retired and still be working in some off field capacity when and if that happens.
Really think that if we jag these two signings all we need is top line goal kicking wing or centre. Am also convinced that as soon as Marsters has the right tackling technique and some straight hard forward running mentality coached into him, he will be fill our lock spot.
Also agree that Bradley should be promoted to our top 30 roster next year. Madden and Cini? not sure they are near ready.
We should go for young tough energetic players to fill remaining few spots which are still open at the end of this process.
Have great hope for development of Clark ..... Madge has him on the right track and he could grow into something special.

So looking at it, we have space to resign 5 of the guys off contract at the end of this year:

- Benji Marshall
- Chris Lawrence
- Jacob Liddle
- Josh Aloiai
- Mahe Fonua
- Robbie Farah
- Robbie Rochow

Fonua is gone, Rochow is unlikely to be resigned, Farah is leaning toward retiring. Given that Rowdy walked straight back into the FG side when he was fit I gather he will be re-signed, talk is that Benji will be too, and if Aloiai takes up his contract that takes us to 28. Every chance the club will offer a contract to Liddle so if he stays it's 29 which means we'll need to sign one more name before mid next year if all of the above eventuates.

If I was in charge of recruitment I'd call Penrith straight away and offer any of Ivan's past signings in Packer or Mats and ET if they're interested for RCG.

RCG seems a little out of form and reports they might shop him, building our pack around RCG and Twal with Mikale and Alioia coming up that would be a solid prop rotation

Thoughts?

@teddy23 If you'd asked me 2 years ago with RCG i'd be super keen to sign him up. But he's not the player he was. Seems to have lost his aggression. I also know a couple of Penrith folk and apparently his salary for next year would make your eyes water.

probably from when he got his jaw smashed he's become a bit gunshy....

@jirskyr haha you guessed it man, work uni gf...no time for videos

I appreciate that - but still present enough to reply to my tag within 1 hour!

Wait until it goes from "work uni gf" to "work kids wife" and then think back how much spare time you actually did have at your age. 😢

@Geo will Dillon and Scolari be considered for development contracts? Both have a lot of what we are short of.

You'd think that would depend on who else we can recruit externally. Already 3 development players signed for next year by the sounds of it: Cini and possibly Simpkin and Garner.

Henry LP is a dev player but was only promoted early this year so he may still be on a dev contract next year. You'd certainly hope he's not on an NRL squad next year at least! Otherwise our squad would already be practically full.

This is also why it's imperative to not re-sign Benji and Robbie. Unless we can offload Reynolds Benji has to go.

WT trying to medically retire Ben Matulino to get him off our books....

2020 will be very interesting how it plays out for our so called "out of favour" long term contracted players, viz: Reynolds, Matulino, Packer, McQueen and ET.

He would have to agree to this, if he wants to still play on then this is a waste of time.

He had knee problems before he got here, would be incredibly hard to get that one over the line if he is wise to the idea.

Similar case to Watmough and Parramatta isn't it?...

Did Watmong get medically retired? I thought they pushed back on it.

@851 He could agree, get his payout and take up a ESL contract?.. the WT contract will most likely be his last in the NRL as no other NRL club is interested in him....

@balmain-boy good reply. We could see one of the current outside backs potentially move. With Bradley and Smith coming online, this provides depth backed by Cini, Dillon and Scolari. Garner as well. RF from what he said is more likely to retire.

To accelerate progression, we need these young players exposed to an advanced coaching regime.
