Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

really don't want LM , would rather spend our money on 5-6 1st grade players spread out over forwards and backs. hes to much of a risk , and hes a sook.

@Spud_Murphy - agree, it's been WT mode of operating for years, the only time we ever seemed to rush things with signings ended disastrously - Packer, Reynolds and Matulino. In the end result if Mitchell goes elsewhere or stays at Roosters I don't care too much, it would show he wasn't really buying the WT sell and where we saw his future. Players say one thing and do another all the time. Look at DWZ only signed a short term contract with Dogs probably with thought of linking up with Madge in 2021, what has just happened now? He signs a further 2 year extension with Dogs, as far as I know without even talking to Madge or WT.

@bptiger That works out to around $300k per player, we have enough ‘average’ players, we need a superstar if we want to play finals man, not saying LM is the right one but we need a player of his caliber.

you would rather 5 x $200k signings rather than Mitchell? Why?

That really worked out when we signed Packer, Matulino and Reynolds didn't it? A guy like LM will attract other quality players. Not to mention sponsorships and bums in seats. You only get one chance to sign a player like Mitchell, and if you pass it up, you're an idiot.

That is not the way i see it we need good solid players to make the semis. The "superstar" idea imo is not right, how long did we have Tedesco for and he never played finals for us. Strength across th team is what we need not all the eggs in one basket

Mitchell won't be the only signing, if we sign him. We'll most likely add 2 forwards. Brown and the Roosters forward most likely. Those are 2 pretty solid additions to the pack to compliment Lattrel.

Let's see, how many of the mentioned Mitchell, Brown, Tetevano and Lomax will WT get? All four would be fantastic, even 3 out of the 4 great. If we can get the 4 and pick up a cheap back e.g. Hiroti WT will have had the best season recruitment for a long, long time.

We have a bunch of "solid" first grade players already. We just haven't got any strike power.

FORWARDS
Garner
Lawrence
Mikaele
Liddle
Aloiai
Clark
Twal
Elijah Taylor
Chee-Kam

BACKS
Brooks
Marshall
Momo
Mbye
Noffa
etc. etc.

All these guys are solid, but they are accessories in a bigger picture. I don't think we have an issue identifying good value players for the roster. Plus, it's a lot easier to convince a good player to switch clubs with the promise of more 1st grade game time. Our issue is attracting proper big names...NSW, QLD and Australian rep players. Mitchell ticks the box and he's got improvement left in him imho.

If Madge pulls off LM + 2 aggressive forwards this year, then we make a couple of big name signings next year, we'll have a team that's pushing for top 4.

The difference between Packer, Matulino, Reynolds and McQueen is that we were signing guys who used to be good, in the hopes we could have them recapture their best form. Latrell Mitchell is currently good. You don't need to get him to recapture his best form. You just need him to maintain his form and work on a few small areas.

Would love to hear we have picked up Mitchell, Brown and Lomax... Everything is a little quite in media at current so fingers crossed. The brown rumour is interesting indeed but would love him here as he shows aggression and makes metres.. Any info on that one would be good to hear about?

every other club is signing... we r waiting for the right moment to surprise!1

Don't forget the W T F factor

There would be a certain serendipity to J Rey going back to the Dogs. I like grub and really wanted him to be a part of our success but sometimes realities stare you in the face and I think this might be one of them. J Rey back 'home' and we get $750k to go hard for Arrow, Brown, Lomax et al.
Seems a win-win for everyone.

The dogs are getting $350k cap relief. If they offered us around $500k for JREY we should really take it and move on. It appears obvious he isnt in Madges short or longterm plans

Also FWIW I checked out the Parra forum and they reckon there's zero truth to Nathan Brown rumours

I'd be extremely surprised if we didn't have to cover 50% of Reynolds contract. No chance the Dogs would take him full freight (they'd be mad to)

People really want 4 players instead of the best talent in the country won two premierships played out of position but made all the rep teams...Heaps of cap space coming up could build a team around a marquee player...Motivated to prove people wrong wants Teddys origin jersey...His highlights on youtube when he was playing fullback are unreal...No way madge would have brought the same players as Cleary...
